Tips for Tidehunter

Solar Crest is a good situational item on any support or tanky offlaner. It's definitely viable on Tide because of his front-line tanky nature, so if you have a lot of physical damage in your team it's a good choice.

Sadly it gives no mana and delays refresher, which is kind of a shame. Tide's definitely not the best hero for the item, but he's a viable one for sure.

Solar Crest is overpowered to the point where you often want to have one in your team. If you aren;t in dire need of any other item, it's a decent choice.

I would also suggest to keep your ulti at level 2 until you have the mana to perform Refresher combo.
Just keep the level 18 skillpoint idle.
He has 988 mana at level 25 and int gain is 1.7 per level. So he has 844 mana at level 18 (give or take-without any items). Now a refresher costs 375 mana and level 3 ulti costs 325. So that becomes 1025 mana cost to just do a refresher combo and nothing else (not even Anchor Smash).

Now getting an arcanes alleviates the problem a bit by giving you 250 max mana and refresher also nets you a 250 mana reuse. So at level 18, HE has 1094 mana with a 250 mana reuse. Which means you will barely have mana to do a couple of gushes and anchor smash.

Now the stun scales only by 0.4 seconds and the cooldown is static which means you only get the damage increase (which should be disregarded for tidehunter, he is a crow controller not a damage dealer himself) and a 0.4 stun increase. But get this with refresher, chaining to ravages gives you 4.8 seconds of interrupted play time with your enemies especially if you caught 3 or more.

Think about it. Saving 200 mana on a refresher combo means an extra gush and anchor smash which does go a long way considering how good his abilities are.

What do you guys think of Echo Sabre on him ?

He can give insane damage with +60 damage talent and -armor from gush, the mana regen helps him on using his skills and allows him to be unkitable along with blink

Right-click Tide...urgh. Bad idea. Way too easily kited, and why would you ever go Echo Sabre over Blade Mail?
Tide doesn't need mana regen since Arcane Boots and Refresher Orb are core already. Only mana pool matters (for refresher).

Want to play carry Tide? Go Radiance/ Octarine Core. Don't laugh, it works.

Totally agreed. Solar Crest can be amazing, and if you want to make Tide a carry you shouldn't do it through right click but profiting from his survivibility to wear a Radiance like Hamster points out (remember all the Radiance #3 Abaddons from last month)?

Yes i agree (well after 150 matches with him in the last 2 months of course I will get it). He has that mana issue until he builds OC,Shiva (not recommended at all) and sheep stick. until then you have to sacrifice some stun duration for 2 or 3 gush and anchor smashes which is HUGE.
One thing that annoys me about tidehunter and probably was the reason of not playing him for so long was the fact that almost always all builds end up to refresher and any other item just delays it alot.
I don't know maybe playing very flexible heroes like Huskar and Razor (not Axe) in these years made me have difficulties with not that flexible heroes.



I actually tried that, It looks like trolling in the beginning but it works and since tide hunter likes long team fights, you can deal ton of damage to those poor souls.

Yup that guy has very unhealthy obsessions and weird bad build ideas, think carefully and maybe experiment in bots before going for them XD

At some point I noticed in my pubs some trends that made no sense whatsoever and lost us games and they all ended up being builds suggested by him.

Yeah, don't forget that Eric Wright is the guy who goes Aghanim's Scepter on carry Gyro, goes Bloodstone on Medusa, and has an insane obsession with Echo Sabre and Aether Lens on heroes they have no place on.

Making some sick new meta is an art.
