First big thing, don't always default to a bloodstone build, I see a lot of storms do that, Orchid is much more important unless you're just absolutely crushing ****.
Second, learn how to manage your mana early on, and don't blow all of it diving too far with ball lightning. This is the most important aspect to playing Storm, managing your mana early on, knowing how to consistently chain your abilities, get in, kill, and have enough to get out, as well as have maintain harassment and still have enough to flash farm. Lots of variables, you'll pick up and be much more efficient the more you play him.
Practice , so you can still make something out of bad situations, he's very good at being a nuisance, and can reliably pick up kills against multiple heroes, you really need to know how to control ball lightning, and manage mana.
Don't automatically pick bloodstone and linkens as default choices, bloodstone if your crushing faces, linkens if you're agains big single target abilities I.e. Doom. Orchid and scythe of vysse go a long way, and BKB almost always essential.
Have fun, I play storm a bit, but can give much better advice on invoker, or queen of pain if they fit your fancy as well.
Step 1: Pick Bristleback
Step 2: type in all chat:"GL hf"
Step 3: solo offlane
Step 4: first blood triple kill solo vs trilane
Step 5: continue head butting keyboard
Step 6: don't care, Bristleback doesn't give a ****
Step 7: screenshot repeated: BB OP comments in all chat
Step 8: alternate games with Slark pick

Qop, biggest thing, her ultimate is not good at lvl 6, you're better off maxing q and e with a level in blink, while farming in ordr to have the mana pool to support the usage of all of your abilities.
Her last hitting is tough to get used too damage wise, but, she can flash farm, get the early talisman, bottle, treads, and go right for orchid.
Careful with her blink, know when to use it aggressively, and when to save it for escaping

Also, for aiming her ultimate, r click the hero you're primarily targeting, to ensure you're facing where you want before screaming. Same way you "aim" with shadow fiends razes

Very true, but against dodgy enemies like Weaver, the ult is the right choice at level 6.At least, I don't like ult at level 6, way too much mana for what scream can already do for you with the dagger and a couple attacks.

I'm going to have to disagree with you here. I think QoP's ult is amazing at 6, and I would never skip it. Also, rarely do I see good players skip it. Here's some justification as to why I think this:

(Pu12e said that QoP's ult costs too much to pick up at 6, and this was my reponse)

This is what a lot of people think, and is the primary reason the ult is skipped for most players.

At level 6, here are some stats:

E costs 130 and does 225 damage. That's 1.73 damage per point of mana spent.
R costs 250 and does 350 damage. That's 1.40 damage per point of mana spent.

If you gank and use W, E, E that's 450 damage over 7 seconds (Because of E CD) for 320 mana.

If you gank and use W, E, R that's 575 damage over 1 second for 440 mana.

If you gank and use W, E, R, E that's 800 damage over 7 seconds (Because of E CD) for 570 mana.

At level 6 if a QoP has a null talisman and 2 branches she will have 572 mana. This means that will a full mana pool a qop can successfully wipe a tri lane in one second 99% of the time, or at maximum 7 seconds (Waiting for second E) with 0 regen items.

I just looked at Virtus.Pro versus Na`Vi in starladder. At level 6, guess what resolution had:

Boots, bottle, ONE NULL TALISMAN, TWO BRANCHES.

Just looked at Power Rangers versus Radical Online X. At level 6, guess what Bzz had:

Bottle, ONE NULL TALISMAN, TWO BRANCHES.

Just looked at Power Rangers versus Aspera. At level 6, guess what zxc had:

Bottle, ONE NULL TALISMAN, ONE BRANCH, MAGIC STICK (Only one charge is needed to successfully have enough mana after popping it).

This is what 99% of professional players use for QoP mid. Enough mana for a blink, 2 screams, and ult (Because they don't skip it). It will win almost any team fight just from sheer damage. I'd say 1/20 games (Or more) will you see professional players skip QoP ult. The potential for burst is too good to pass up.

In high tier games you aren't allowed as qop to W, E and follow your target for 7 seconds for another E. You'll get TPed on, and crushed. At 6 the towers are too close together. You need to kill opponents immediately. Skilling R at 6 does this.

Agreed! By no means am I a good QoP player, but the benefit of having 2 AoE Nukes to chain almost instantaneously at lvl6 for that much Damage is always worth draining my Mana Pool, as I'm pretty much guaranteed a Kill or 2 with a well executed Gank and careful Mana Management.

Also, you should Max Blink 2nd, you only need a point or 2 in Shadow Strike. The reason for this is that with the 6 second Cooldown on Blink, you can follow a damaged + slowed (with Shadow Strike opponent, and finish them with a 2nd Scream of Pain, then immediately Blink away.

Or you can use the 2nd Blink to land your 2nd Scream of Pain. It depends on the situation, but a Maxed out Blink is more useful than a Maxed out Shadow Strike.

Agreed: I don't understand this "trend" of skipping QoP's ult, I've never seen a competitive player doing so. Well, sometimes it might have happended, but most of the time - when I was paying attention - it didn't. And about Angelo's build, now that supports can't give you a Healing Salve anymore I think QoP players stick to the Null Talisman and double Tango build, getting a Bottle (and maybe a Magic Wand? Not sure about it) as soon as possible.

Also, as Xyrus said, you will need the extra levels in your Blink to make teamfights and chases easier; with four points in it you can potentially Blink in, throw all your stuff and Blnk out before getting killed. The DoT from your third skill is just for harassment damage in the laning stage, mostly.

Mushi does it, but by no means is that the reason why I do it. I'm more focused on farming, also Wulfstan, caveat, I get it if I'm against something like a viper, the burst helps bring him down before his poison eats through Akashas health.
If you have control over your lane, you really don't have to max blink, and generally I don't suffer without the ulti, orchid generally ensures what I'm attacking dies, and by the time mid game team fights begin I have my level 2 ult so I'm spitting fire anyway.
Also, I'm not a pro-desolator qop player, I loves the Skadi-bkb after orchid, beefy qop is my favorite qop obsessed with Eye of Skadi
