Just finished a game where I randomed Treant Protector, and wow, seriously impressed :)

Ended up having to hard solo against Clinkz and was just thinking it was gonna be invisible and soak up XP...wrong! Between your massive base damage and Living Armour I could actually make life a bit difficult for him and compete for hits. Throw it across the map occasionally to save a team mate, heal a tower etc and you've got one hell of a power...

60 minute game ended with a lot of massive team fights, roshan attempts and Overgrowth really proved it's worth - preventing Black Holes and setting up their team for a kicking. Nature's Guise also deserves a mention, you have to beware of Sentry Wards but being able to invis most of your team allows for some great initiation.

Will there be a second date? Hell yeah :)

When playing in pub games, you won't find advanced laning such as Tri-Lanes or Solo Hardlanes. You will find the default dual top, and dual bottom lane, with a solo mid. But one day you might want to try it with a group of friends in a 5 stack party, or even in a pub where someone requests it. So here is a general rundown of these advanced laning techniques :

The Tri-Lane

It became popular a while ago, and is still considered a fairly common strategy in the pro scene. This lane setup's main purpose is to give your carry the safest farm possible. To do this, you send two supports with a carry into the safelane (the long lane, bottom for Radiant, Top for Dire). The jobs of the two supports are to harass the enemy (be it one, two or three heroes), pull creeps from neutral camps to keep the lane from pushing to the enemy tower and the most important task, protecting the carry. This lane is usually sustained for the first 10 minutes or so of the game. After that the supports will usually s…

So my sister gave me some praying mantis eggs for my birthday that you can order from a seller. They are a way to prevent pesky insects from bothering your garden without using chemicals. We don't really have a garden but praying mantises are my favorite bug and they're cool to see regardless!

I had this little plastic cup with the mantis egg in it. I looked up how they laid their eggs since I was curious how there was a bunch of eggs inside one mass. Apparently they lay their eggs in a "frothy mass" and when this mass solidifies it becomes a solid ball with a texture similar to a wasp nest.

I woke up one day about 2 weeks later and there they were. I did not expect them to be so big, and there were so many! They were all scrambling around, and I'm really glad I didn't try to put it in my spare fish tank because they easily climbed up the side walls and were chilling on the roof of the cup, where my fish tank would have had holes that would be big enoug…

It feels kinda dumb to even have to comment on this (surely most Dotafire members know it already?), but for some reasons I've been seeing lots of Night Stalker's who seem hell bent on farming rather than ganking...

Don't get me wrong, you can farm during the day, but it's incredible watching people trying to farm up a Maelstrom during the first night by hitting creeps. Semi-carry heroes are all about getting gold and experience by KILLING HEROES and PUSHING TOWERS - in fact, if you're successful you can get far more this way than you ever could from hitting creeps.

The other big issue is the effect this has on the enemy team - DOTA isn't just about gaining gold and experience for your own team, it's about stopping the opposition from getting it. The total amount of gold/xp you gather is far less important than the GAP between your team and opposition.

DotafireBlog News

I felt it'd be necessary to post the formatte for reporting Valve blog updates. Sometimes we may not be on during the general hours that the blog is released or there will be a delay on the blog release and we might need someone to type up the blog for it to be stickied to the front page without delay when our Community Manager or Moderator log in. It's been a while since I made a blog post, and I thought this would be a fun thing to share with you guys.

I'd been interested in aquariums and researching them for a while. One day I stopped by a local fish store just to check it out since I thought it'd be neat. The fish store was awesome! One thing that made me really happy is they had a few bettas (Siamese Fighting Fish) that they actually kept in community tanks with other fish instead of those ****py little cups like you usually see them in. My boyfriend was with me and we spotted a beautiful purple betta in one of the tanks (which by the way is my boyfriend's favorite color). We both fell in love with him and I decided to get a small tank.

2 days and a bunch of car trips later I've gotten my tank set up and bring my new betta (Roy) home from the store along with a couple of plants. I got a 6 gallon cylindrical tank. Unfortunately, this was not the best purchase because apparently the filter that came with the tank kit pulls w…

Now we know that Captain's Mode games involve a lot of strategy even at the picking phase. When playing CM, you concentrate on choosing a balanced team that will out perform the enemy's team, and also assign lanes to the correct heroes for the job. But some people forget that this is also half-true in normal public AP, SD or any other mode really.

I am sure that a lot of games you lose are because of team match-up and lane choices. Because unless the enemy is extremely bad, if you have the wrong hero for the wrong job you are faced with being annihilated before you've even started.
To illustrate, let me give you an example. Let's say you see the enemy picking up a Drow Ranger, Warlock, Silencer, Witch Doctor and a Dragon Knight.
Quickly analysing the line-up can significantly increase your chances of winning.

The first thing we see is a Drow. We all hate and love this hero for her amazing damage and slow. Although fairly nerfed, she is still a significant hero and needs to be co…

My team and I are recruiting for a team that is pretty versatile. We have both played many heroes, and want to play in team games because pubs are terrible. Even though we want everyone, we can't because of time differences. Because of this, there are some requirements. You must go by eastern standard or central time (U.S), speak good English, have a working mic, be willing to get skype, and be between the ages of 14 and 20. If you're interested and meet the requirements, add me at http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198067121446/ or reply on here. Thanks, Ascuns.
