As with some heroes, Battlefury can be used as a farming tool. For void, it is a farm tool early game and a wrecker late game. It also provides some sustain, which he could use at the early game. It also helps clear creep waves quicker. With Time Walk, void became a semi Anti-Mage. At the late game, It is very tremendous as you can easily score a multi-kill in a Chronosphere. Some questions:
Battle Fury is great if you want to play a farming/split-pushing Void similar to Anti-Mage. you push out a lane, start hitting the tower, if a single hero comes to defend you solo kill him in Chronosphere and if several are coming you just Time Walk away and TP out. You can do the full AM build on Void, Bfury -> manta -> butterfly. It takes pretty long to come online that's why people usually don't do that but it has always been really successful for me.
Maelstrom comes online way sooner, so does Hand of Midas. I tend to prefer maelstrom over Midas because again of the split-pushing ability, but also the teamfight presence.
Generally I tend to see Voids who rush Mask of Madness and join teamfights early get punished HARD for it by taking nukes to the face. I prefer farming Void who plays it safe by far. Void is already weak in early teamfights and againt push lineups and going MoM only makes this worse, MoM is a good snowballing item against teams with no nukes, but people often make the mistake that it's core and don't understand why they can't do anything but feed.
Mjollnir is really Void's best famring item IMO though. Because it gives you a ton of attack speed to proc Time Lock in chrono, which is your main source of damage early/mid game. If I had to choose a build now I would say Mjollnir first item.

Who says you should jump in 5 enemies once you got Mask? With MoM Void can pretty easily kill 2 enemies if he catches them in chrono and destroys the more dangerous one first. Then he pushes a lane a bit, maybe takes tower, farms, rinse and repeat until you've got some serious damage like [[Mjollnir[[ or spell immunity.
Not a core though, you're right, as if enemy team consists of heroes that can wreck you 1 vs 1, ypu better get something else as your chrono won't be much of a use.
Imo Battle Fury is too weak on Void to be anything other than a Troll/Pub Item. His Damage mostly comes from Time Lock Procs, which aren't going to get Cleaved, so you're not really getting much Damage out of it unless the game goes late and people start clumping up together...for some reason.
Mask of Madness is a decent enough Farming Item, you just have to use it wisely, no sense activating it if you're about to eat a big Nuke. It's hard to say which is the best 1st Item on Void since different games will demand different responses and Item choices. I'll vote for no Farming Tools though, since all he needs to be effective is Chronosphere and someoneelse on his Team to have a good followup to it.

It's nowhere near as effective on Faceless Void. Time Walk has a 12 second Cooldown, compared to Blink's 5 second Cooldown, Anti-Mage can Clear 3 camps in the time it takes Void to clear 2. This is also because Anti-Mages who go the full Farming/Split-Pushing route will take early points in Stats for extra Attack Speed and Damage to Farm faster, 1 point in Mana Break and Spell Shield, Max Blink just before you get your Battle Fury and voila, you have the fastest Jungle Camp clearer in all of DOTA.
When it comes to Split-Pushing, Anti-Mage can move around the Map faster thanks to Blink every 5 seconds, and his Illusions are much better for Split-Pushing thanks to Spell Shield making them harder to destroy. Remember kids, Illusions do not have Backtrack, so Void's Illusions are much more easily swatted down before they can do any real Damage to Towers.
Being able to Solo Kill with Chronosphere is nice, but not every Hero can be taken out simply by Chronoing them. Take Clockwerk for example, he can Hookshot in, Cogs and Battery Assault you. You might have enough time to get away, but you're certainly not going to do more Damage than him early on, and by the time you do, Blademail will be there to ruin your day. Also, don't forget Pudge, Nightstalker, Skywrath Mage, Axe, etc.

Chronosphere is there for locking down the biggest threat, getting another Hero or 4 is just a bonus.
Plz no Battlefury Void :/ a kitten dies everytime someone does that.
Ideal farm situation for Void would be Midas > Maelstrom, picking up a HotD if you need lifesteal (plus, it builds into Satanic later and that's always a good item). This build gives you good kill potential in chrono as well as stuff to hate on creeps.
There are two kinds of people in the world; those who can count, and those who can't.
