This item I have been buying more lately.

The stat is great, it gives 350 health and the more INT than a Mystic Staff. I find it very useful on supports with the great stats and active. Some may argue that Scythe of Vyse is much better for 2k more gold, but Scythe of Vyse doesn't have the insane range that Rod of Atos has, neither does it have the very short cooldown this item has. Not to mention that it has a much easier buildup.

I think this item is very useful on supports who don't normally buy Blink Dagger or the one that wants to stay out of harm's way. Heroes like Winter Wyvern comes to mind. I've actually almost lost a game because of trying to get near with sheep. Some other examples may be Dazzle and Oracle.

So, what think? Am I wrong at some points in my post? Is Rod of Atos underrated or just ****?

The thing is there's not a lot of heroes who benefit from atos. Only Silencer and OD can really do work with it. Other than that maybe Windrunner or Oracle, but with a lot less impact.

It's still good against WK, Sven and Ursa to kite them tho.

I like being it on squishy int heroes when you're suffering against enemy burst ( Lina, Nyx Assassin etc) - it's really good value for money in terms of stats. The active is useful, but tends to be so most early game, I think it kinda of drops off later compared to the mighty Sheepstick.

As you say - this is always the issue with it, Force Staff, Eul's Scepter of Divinity and Scythe of Vyse all have more obvious utility, but the stats of this are awesome.

It's actually my go-to item on Int. heroes when I'm behind.

I pick it up most often on Windranger, when I really need to HP.

The problem about this item is that slows are only good against heroes without mobility.

The problem about dota is that every hero has mobility. Every hero that doesn't have mobility natively builds Blink Dagger and/or Force Staff...making the active effectively useless.

Item should be buffed to disable Blink Dagger on activaton IMO (instead of Euls)...or at the very least make it unpurgeable.

It's kind of like Orchid Malevolence...really good stats, pretty bad active.

Personally I build it on outworld devourer and Skywrath Mage...that's it. OD is for me the best Atos user in the game, since he only needs INT and mana pool and not mana regen, and really uses the active well since he's best played as a snowball carry before BKB's come out.
It's decent on Windranger if playing against low moblity heroes, and well that's essentially the end of the list :)

Atos is underrated. The nature of the item is a bit more selfish than the other int items like Force (which can save people and fight Darth Vader), Euls (which can stop enemy TPs), and Scythe (which is just awesome all around). The stat efficiency is insane, and while not as good at pickoff off, it much much better for cleaning up or preventing disengagements.

But Atos has a lot of stigma. I once had a game where I was SK against Axe, so I decided that after my Blink I'd get Blade Mail so he'd Helix himself to death in teamfights. There was also a TA and Wraith King, so I went for Atos, both for the nice amount of bonus stats and to kite them as the fight went on, and then clean up teamfights using Blink Atos for long *** pickoffs. Sounds reasonable right? It Worked.

But the entire time, the team was so condescending and rude. "Blade Mail? Where is your Force Staff?" "Atos? What's your next terrible item?" So I had to mute them and show them the effectiveness of the item in that situation.

It's also really really good on core Skywrath Mage. Since, it gives him INT and the HP he desperately needs, as well as the slow having great natural synergy with his ulti. And it's alright on Visage as well.

The issue with the item, is that despite it being really cost efficient stats, it's just less powerful in most situtions. Force Staff is cheaper, and offers better uility, Eul's is cheaper and again offers more utility, and Sheep despite being more expensive is just a better offensive item, because it's a hard disable.

It's basically restricted to being a reaction to specific heroes as a result (Save on heroes who benefits a lot from the stats, or have skill set synergy), like against Ursa, or WK ect ect, but even then it's only until those heroes has BKB. And Force Staff isn't restricted by that, and that's the issue. The item is jsut strictly worse than Force Staff in too many situations to make it any more than situational, despite the item just being really solid.

Like, you can't call it a bad item, a 60% slow at 1200 range for a tiny mana cost, with a 10s cooldown, and giving some of the best stats in the game, and it's just underwhelming compared to the utility you can get from other items.

Since you just can't have enough Chaos Breaker.

ive also seen it used well a couple of times on necro. but necro builds vary so much. you see midas dagon blink, mek, atos. so much different builds.....

but what if it would put blink on CD once when you use it on someone? that could be a good buff. its the same that made euls wildly popular, so it should be handled with care...

edit: so hamster said that as well, IM TOO LAZY TO READ TODAY OK.

I love it on Sky, because that with the concussive shot pretty much makes them unable to move out of the mystic flare. I love the item, I just don't find myself getting it a lot because of the reasons the other comments have explained.
I got to Notable, Thanks!
