I am still amazed at how idiotic the Youtube Comments are. The fact that people flame mercilessly and unnecessarily is quiet intriguing and, quiet frankly, scary.

I know, right? I often have a laugh reading them, but this laugh is a sorrowful one, from reailising how true the "95% of people in any sphere of life are idiots" rule is.

You need to keep in mind that the world's average IQ is 83.
Basically the average human is quite close to being a ******.

The normal "smart" folks you might know will have around 100-120 IQ.

Geniuses tend to possess IQ greater than 140.
This bracket is the upper 0.01 percentile.

Next time you see a stupid comment, remember, this world is full of idiots.

@unscathed

i have to find this article for you but it fascinating. it talks about the effects anonymity has on people. it did all these studies where humans ranging from 3 years old to 90 were given this one test.

they were put in a dark room room with a one way mirror and someone sat chained in a lighted room at a table with a device strapped to one arm and a box on the table.

in front of the person in the dark room were two buttons. one had "pain" written on it the other "pleasure". the pain button ministered an increasing electric shock starting low but the more the button is pressed the more it hurts. the pleasure button released a small block of chocolate from the box on the table.

60 something percent of people between the ages of 12 - 84 clicked the pleasure button first but over the course of a 30 minute period the PAIN button was pressed a ***ping 260% more then the pleasure button.

in children between the ages of 6-12 the pain button was pressed first like close to 100% of the time. and more often and the time between presses was shorter. BUT they also always pressed the pleasure button multiple times though they did press the pain button 3 times more than the pleasure.

the worst statistic from the study was that the pain button was pressed on average 20-30 times every 10 minutes in comparison to the 3-5 times for pleasure button. this was all ages.

the only 2 groups that didnt press the pain button more then the pleasure button were people over the age of 84 and 16 year old females.

what you take from the study is up to you but i find it fascinating :D

O wow

83 average?

As someone above 130 (not specifying ^_^) this is rather depressing.
There are two kinds of people in the world; those who can count, and those who can't.

I was always told that the average IQ is around 100.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IQ_classification

And that some tests were even designed so the average is 100.

Where did you get your numbers from?

@smuggs

The age window is strange, I cant make up anything out of it. I assume people do thise things just for fun, considering the shock was harmless and all in good fun. But... What do you mean "chained"? Any links that I can check out? I might find it interesting.

However, that doesnt help the fact that Youtube comments are full of idiotic flaming while I find reddit to be generally nice.

One example. I made a joke that goes along the lines of 'SlowFromUA'. It was a TI4 recap some time before TI5 so I made the joke and it got a decent amount of upvotes. Then, someone commented like, with flame for some weird ****ing reason saying 'Its a recap you dip' or something like that. Like... What the **** was that? I know people can be flamey at times but... What the ****? The flame doesnt even makes sense. There was also a reply to that flaming comment saying that goes along the lines of 'Its a joke you dip'. Both comments are intriguing. I think I've seen similar comments in gamefaq but my memory might mislead here.

As someone possessing an IQ of over 150, I think you should take my word as gospel :P

Just kidding, can't find the link, but the numbers are right.

Looks very similar to Milgram's Experiment, though it has more to do with authority obedience and not human cruelty.

so chained as in they could move one arm but were fixed to the chair. Also the shock was not harmless have you ever put on a electric dog collar? at max setting it was aroun 70% of a full tazer charge. ever felt a tazer before? its like every single nerve in your body is on fire.

it actually does though. the fact that youtube commenters are basically anonymous allows people to act out in a way that they would NEVER normally do. the study shows that when given the choice to act nicely or be cruel. a majority of humans chose to be harmful to fellow humans. if i can find the article the researchers theorized that social and community norms are a strong force in channeling behavior and curbing any non-productive actions like i guess shocking someone. the baser aspects of humans are scary.

now look at reddit yes they are a bit on the spastic side but they have to use those accounts a lot so it doesnt behoove them to act like a total **** lest something productive may come of it.
