Ask him to play a game with his build once and then the necro build. The one with which he has the most successful is the build suited for him. Case in point; as far as I have noticed, I tend to work better with a dagon burst build as compared to a necro build on AW (atleast in bot matches).
If nothing works, show him the true potential of the necro build by paying AW once that way yourself. If you can play AW that is.

My friend is wanting to play Arc Warden, he's generally a pretty good player, but he's kinda dropped the ball. He insists that he will go Maelstrom after Midas, and that he thinks Necrobook sucks on the hero because it'll just feed gold and it doesn't help him fight... even though it totally does and not buying Necrobook just makes the hero take 15 more minutes to come online.

How do I convince him to listen, or at least try it? Should I just abstain from playing when he runs Arc Warden?

We all know a friend with such weird ideas can only be Safecyn, go ahead and say his name

Kidding! :D He's an editor now, gotta respect him!

No, no, it's not me. I'm a firm believer that the only items you should build on Arc Warden are Hand of Midas, Boots of Travel, and Divine Rapier. Kappa.

Tell him the truth... Necronomicon is a far better farming item on AW than Maelstrom is!

Maelstrom is only a decent farming item on heroes who have lots of attack speed. AW has dumpster tier stats so he won't farm jack with one.

While on the other hand an almost permanent uptime Necronomicon allows you to farm extremely fast by summoning them to push out lanes and clear jungle.

There is no hype because we don't know when it's gonna come. Give us a hint maybe?

I don't know where your friend got that from, but Necro is miles better than Mael in every way, even against heroes who feed on it. Perhaps he realizes that himself but is too lazy to actually try to control them(which I understand and partially, having both of your Necros tied to one control group when 90% of the time they are in completely different points of the map gets tiring really fast).

There is nothing to be hyped about. Because, you know, THERE IS NO PATCH. Also pls fix this ****:
