I do not follow the pro scene much (mainly because no time), but I have seen some surge of Naga Waifu in some hightlights. I was wondering why she became more popular lately, and could any one of you tell me why has she been picked more?

Carry naga or support naga?

If support, it's not worth my time and effort.

If carry, then I guess it's because octarine naga is an amazing splitpusher and counterpusher, which seems to be in the vogue.

It's a lot more support Naga than usual.

I imagine it's a bit to do with the varying buffs support Naga has had over the past few patches, a lot to do with the hero suiting the patch (Being a good brawling support with a lot of room for growth with the extra gold), and the sudden appearance in the meta probably a bit to do with people experimenting with the patch for a long time. The gold change was probably significant, as it meant greedy supports had much more of a place.

I don't think there's been a lot of core Naga Siren (And if Artezy isn't playing it, it's probably not very good this patch), but there's definitely been a lot of support.

Since you just can't have enough Chaos Breaker.

Aghanim's Scepter for everybody!

Just kidding. No idea. But I've seen her in a few games recently too. I think one explanation could be that she is very good to deal with Io combos, because of her ultimate. At least I saw her doing this very effectively against a Io plus Tiny.

And does her Ensnare go through BKB? Because if it does, that's another thing to consider.

Carry Naga has been buffed really hard with the Radiance miss chance on illusions and Octarine Core Naga being pretty stupid since it reduces the cooldown on Mirror Image and Manta Style. Not to mention 45 second CD Song of the Siren. And illusions lifesteal with radiance... and upgraded travels and moon shard for 6-slotted carries...etc.

Support Naga has always been good. Now that she can buy Aghanim's Scepter to instantly turn around an initiation, even more so. I really love her aghs because now it makes Song of the Siren good in any lineup as a counter-initiation skill, it doesn't just force you into a womnbo combo lineup.

This. I'd even say Naga got buffed more than Spectre, as she has no passive to Break.

Yes it does ChiChi.
I think Naga is rising in pro games due the facts already explained but also the fact that games can tend to last longer.
In ultra late game a sup Naga can be a additional core e.g. ESL One EG vs. Vici Gaming game one where aui finished the game as net worth leader.
I guess its a advantage for her that there are plenty game strats in which Naga fits. She can rat as hell, disrupt wombo combos or prevent Am or Qop from blinking away

ok so a bit of background. at TI3 naga was one of the best supports because she is a very strong laner, and it was all laning in that patch.
after TI3 ganking became more important and she disappeared until people started playing it as a carry with radiance.

Now she is played as a dual offlane support.

i guess it it because the strength of Song of the Siren has been rediscovered. i always thought that song and Natural Order were the most insane spells in the game.
if you ever watched a game with naga then you should know the sentence 'naga stops the fun' or something like that. you can have a ridiculous initiation with a 4 man stun, and then the 5th hero comes in and resets the fight, basically nullifying the opponents advantage.

dual offlanes have been pretty popular for a while now, but they have become even more popular with all the recent Tusk picks, since that hero +1 have so much kill potential.

i dont know how to look it up easily, but from what im seeing at datdota she is almost always laning with Tusk when dual offlane.
the safelane support naga's are played as very greey 4 positions.
but as you see in the link earlier in my post, the dual offlane has a much higher winrate.

edit: carry naga has always been played a bit. she never really disappeared but hasnt been a firstpick since the illusion damage nerf.
Octarine Core either replaces heart, diffu, or butterfly this patch, depending on what he needs more.

Naga is like zao instapicking wd a bit. The hero can be a support, the hero can be a core.
A support naga has always been pretty good actually. She has a bkb piercing (soft) disable. A nuke which reduces armour. A scouting/fighting tool. And ofc an ultimate which can pretty much change a teamfight.
Personally, I liked her more when she had crits instead of riptide.

Btw, does ensnare interrupt chanelling also?
