So I was wondering about you guys' thoughts on a carry Omni. I saw a vid by JimBenDoto (if you're looking for humor it's a decent YouTube channel), where he went for skadi and radiance and other shtuffs and was crazy good. Recently, I was supporting a Slark in lane who had loads of lag and abandoned early on, so I ended up farming and getting kills as the Omni. Linked here. It got me thinking about why some heroes are classified as supports (like Sven) and others are classified as carries.
My question to you is this;
Would you ever play carry omniknight in a serious ranked match? Meaning, would you farm an omni, and get an AC and a Radiance and a Skadi, or do you think that's the dumbest *** s*** you ever heard?
Well. Farming omni is definitely good in right lineup, if you go offlane get for example a Hand of Midas followed with quick Aghanim's Scepter and Refresher Orb or something along those lines.
As for rightclicking Omniknight, he does really well with attack speed and slows. If you focus someone who doesn't have much rightclick and no Diffusal Blade, you just repel yourself and club them to death. But rightclicking omni is ****. You can go for like tanky "slow everything around build", even though it wouldn't work against good opponents, especially when they expect it, it's pretty decent against pub scrubs, as JimBenDoto illustrated.
I think that such a build even has potential in pro games, if you catch enemy by surprise. (fifth pick mid omni? idk) But it's pretty unrealiable and snowball dependent, sooooo... Meh. Could work. Depends.
Fun pub strat to screw around, it's really fun, but any kind of right-click build on Omni is completely outclassed by Aghanim's Scepter + Refresher Orb so never do that in a serious game.
Essentially support Omni is actually far better late game than carry Omni because right-click Omni will just get outcarried while utility Omni autowins teamfights with double ult.
He's a utility hero boys, he's meant to be played as such :)
No need to play core Omni IMO if you just want aghs-refresher, stack jungle camps and clear them with Soul Ring. You have lots of free time to farm with this hero when GA is down so take advantage of it.
Totally agree with Hamstertamer here - carry omni bad, omni with farm good. What could be better than up to 20 seconds of almost total physical immunity for your team anywhere on the map!?
He's got almost no damage output that isn't item based, so get Aghs / Refresher then almost anything you want. Shiva's is good, hell get a radiance, AC or sheepstick if you want after that - it almost doesn't matter.
Great Utility Hero, but finding space for him to Farm is difficult since he can't Jungle or dominate his Lane. Much like Warlock, he desperately needs that Hand of Midas to get his Aghanim's Scepter + Refresher Orb asap! On the bright side, he doesn't have to worry about it falling off after 40 minutes. <}3
Omni needs a lot of farm but he cannot fit the #1 position. Carry Omni is like Lion getting Desolator, Mask of Madness, Maelstrom and go rekt face (6 seconds disables is like single-target Chronosphere). Fun to be played with? Yes. Viable? Not really, because Omni has no good scaling skill and therefore he is easily outclassed by other true carry in late game.
@Xyrus, actually Omni can jungle, when he hits level 5 and has a Soul Ring, he can clear camps quite easily with Purification, he's pretty good at it. Purification is a pretty legit farming skill, and he can farm empty lanes even in very dangerous places because if he gets caught out he can just Repel himself and TP out.
Thing is, you need aghs-refresher because it's just better than any other build. And once you have that, you're already in late game so right-click is no longer relevant on a hero like Omni.
And once you have this I think mobility items are when he needs, as well as a Linken's Sphere. Linkens prevents initiation on him which is absolutely needed since everyone wants to focus him first, and casting the linkens buff on allies blocks Diffusal Blade.
Or just stack auras with a late Vlads and AC.
See, if for some reason you're sitting on a ton of gold on your Dazzle and you want to build a Mask of Madness and a Daedalus, after all why the hell not, the hero is completely item-independent and he doesn't scale with items anyways so you'll have no regrets. But if you do that on Omni you're just giving up on a far better build.
We've talked about laning Omni plenty, and you can situationally fit him into lineups but he generally causes issues for other heroes:
1) You play him as a #4. Either your carry has to be a melee space closer to let him land Purification (and he's got to be level 3 to make this do much), or have great lane control so they can harass the offlaner themself. It puts a lot of strain on the other support, and it means you can't really roam as a duo.
2) You play him in a dual offlane with a hero with strong lane control and use him to aid their survivability. Bit iffy against a strong trilane, again means you have no roaming without making other sacrifices and can potentially impact the success of your safelane.
3) I don't think solo offlane or mid are terribly viable, any decent ranged harassment will mean the opposition win that lane pretty convincingly even if they can't kill him.
Once he gets to level 5 and has a Soul Ring, he can jungle ok and pickup some farm when your cores aren't there. Slows the tempo of your team and pretty much locks you into a more passive playstyle.
Balanced against this, if the rest of the team can work around him, you get a fantastic set of late game abilities.
