The pro pub player's pudge experience
So here we are again, waiting to laugh at my misfortune of being stuck with stupid/hateful/passive-aggressive teammates. We've done this twice already, here's the next instalment.
Regular pub game (New UI is freaking BALLER, by the way) with a surprisingly good team lineup (for a pub game):
- Pudge
- Clinkz
- Witch Doctor
- Slark
- Skywrath Mage
Now, I normally don't play pudge, but the heroes they picked just BEGGED for a hero like Pudge:
- Queen of Pain
- Venomancer
- Sniper
- Crystal Maiden
- Faceless Void
I mean...LOOK HOW SQUISHY!
Anyway the moment I last pick Pudge (I'm a prick, I know.) and join the game, the Witch doctor and Venomancer both say: "Wow. Pudge playing prick." Yeah, not giving me high hopes for the game. I was later justified in thinking this.
So obviously I go mid and farm, vs QoP. I did surprisingly well against this Qop, and landed three hooks on her (only one of them netted me a kill though :P).
The QoP player was actually a really nice guy, and was the only one I respected in this game.
The three hooks part is important, by the way.
I go to gank top (as mid heroes do) and accidently run into a 2v3 (2 of my team, 3 of them) and help them out. I hit a hook on the Venomancer and dismember him. Killed. Then I go and kill their witch doctor. I turn, and try for a hook on the retreating Void, but I miss. I think: 'That's fine, I've done well enough that missing one is totally acceptable here' And then...The slark...Says: "Wow noob pudge. ****ing missed his hook"
What.
What.
What?
*Pixelmancer does not compute*
*An error has occurred*
*rebooting*
WHAT!?
I (quite indignantly) tell him that I've hit 5 hooks this game, and 3 of which were on a blinking hero. Missing ONE hook does not make a player bad.
Of course he doesn't answer (for lack of a good comeback, I think) and we continue playing.
This kind of thing continues to happen, me hitting a bunch of hooks and then slark (and eventually witch doctor) calling me out on my few misses, even reporting me several times. The other members of my team (and QoP) were telling them to shut up.
When the game was over (we won) and the commendations/reportings had occurred, I exit the game and shut down Dota 2. I had had enough of flamers and idiots for the day.
Making this worse, I had been reported so many times that I was in low prio.

both are ranked match making.
honestly pudge is a MOOD hero sometimes im in the mood for some hooks other times im not.
sometimes you play horrible
sometimes you are dendi
but all the time (unless you hit 100% of hooks) to your teammates ...your ****.
both ranked games i knew i would rek face but ...some didnt like it.
though when "DOMINATING" comes up they quickly shut up haha.
I played a game as pudge once, where the Necrophos on my team was pinging and telling me to throw hooks on heros like Earthshaker, then raging really hard when i wouldn't throw that hook (because you know... CHAOS DUNK!). Then at other times in the game, he was telling me to throw hooks on heros I couldn't even see (they would show and then back instantly) and that were on the very VERY edge of my hook. I had to put up with him for 53 min.

Picking Pudge is a great responsibility. While people are watching "Big Plays" with this hero, their expectations are very high, so they imagine that each missed hook is a blasphemy. When people tend to hate your pick from the start, there is basically any chance that they will say anything nice to you (even if you did well). They can't admit they were wrong.
Of course, we can also think about being "tough" on the Internet, so they can recompensate how they feel in real life. It is also a good way to release anger.
Anyway, I noticed, that Pudge is quite forgotten nowadays. In last two weeks I saw him exactly in 2 games, and I am playing like 2-3 games a day.
That, or you finally got to a level where pudge isn't picked 3/4 games.
But yeah taht's probably true. People watch dendi compilations and expect every player to be just as good. Slightly better is the people who expect you to be as good as them. Not much better though.
