I made this thread to gather your knowledge and opinions on which heroes are the best or not so great Aegis of the Immortal carriers.
Note #1: I will list only cores here, because supports aren't usually considered of picking the Aegis.

Note #2: Heroes on Not the best list are put there with cooldown on their ultimates or other signature spell, as this is what really defines them. This applies to The best list as well, and this is why they are put on that list. Their ultimates aren't that essential or they have very low cooldown (or are passives).

My personal opinion (explanations are below):

The best

Not the best

EXPLANATIONS:

  • Hero like Storm Spirit can make a great use of Aegis of the Immortal, because it restores your HP and Mana to 100%. When he dies, he can come back to wreck havoc on the battlefield with full mana. Or he can escape.
  • Weaver is naturally a very slippery hero, and he can make some sick plays with Time Lapse and Aegis of the Immortal usage. Shukuchi is also a somewhat easy way to escape once you will resurrect.
  • Heroes like Huskar, Phantom Assassin, Bristleback or Lifestealer are manfighters, very often with some sort of lifesteal, so they are not so easy to bring down and can deal tremendous amount of damage before they will die once more. 3 of them (except Phantom Assassin) are often considered "Raid Bossess", as they are so tanky and therefore - dangerous.
  • Medusa and Spectre are in similar position as heroes mentioned in the previous point. Medusa make a perfect use of replenished mana, due to Mana Shield. Even without Stone Gaze she is treated with great respect. Spectre, however, makes a superb use of 100% HP status, due to Dispersion. Enemies could literally die from killing her on the second attempt.
  • Tiny, Troll Warlord and Ember Spirit are at least very decent with Aegis of the Immortal, because they have rather low cooldown spells, or they rely mostly on auto-attacks. Good luck with killing 6 slotted Tiny twice before he will raep your face.

  • On the other hand, we have heroes that aren't that great with the Almighty Aegis of the Immortal in their inventory (reminder: ultimates or big spells on cooldown). Faceless Void without Chronosphere is a great carry, but his strenght still heavily relies on landing that Big Blue Ball. He can't really manfight that well without a hard disable skill to his advantage.
  • I also mentioned Warlock, Silencer, Doom and Venomancer. Some of them are considered supports, but they can be run (and they are, in fact) as a core. We can't deny, that ultimates like Chaotic Offering or Poison Nova is what truly defines their holders.
  • In my list, there are also transformation heroes - Dragon Knight and Lycan. Most of the time, they need their ultimates to be truly effective.
  • Chaos Knight is just decent at best without his Phantasm illusions.
  • Naga Siren can be a great Aegis of the Immortal carrier, but if she has Song of the Siren ready or she is overfarmed in comparision to the enemy.
  • Good old Lone Druid without a Bear isn't the same. There are some situations when you are picking items on the Druid himself, but he was made to not be equally good with comparision to other heroes. He needs a Bear.

CLOSING WORDS:

I have mixed feelings about Legion Commander. She seems not so useful without Duel, but she can still be very effective just with Moment of Courage and Press the Attack. She can have a great amount of won Duels as well. I need your opinion on this, B O Y S.
Also Outworld Devourer might be tricky to put him in the correct list. Arcane Orb still does a big amount of damage (especially if we consider Black King Bar nerfs), and Astral Imprisonment can let him escape.

But what is the most controversial thing about my thread is that I was thinking about 1 hero vs. 5 heroes. I imagined a situation, when a hero holds Aegis of the Immortal and his whole team gets teamwiped, and that hero respawns with 5 enemies waiting for him to resurrect. I figured this is the only way to try to even think about best Aegis carriers, because I just can't list and predict each draft and each situation. I am waiting for your feedback.

Best Aegis carrier, without competition, is Spectre. Nobody else even comes close, it's just that good on her.

'Bad' Aegis heroes are those that have a second form - Terrorblade, Dragon Knight, Lycan. It's probably best if you just get the Cheese on these guys. I'd also say get the Cheese on Spectre, but that's just not fair. Cheese + Aegis + Buyback = 4x lives = 2400 reflected damage from Dispersion assuming 4 slots. Like wtf.

Also, if Lone Druid dies with the Aegis, the bear won't despawn and will continue fighting. So the Druid is actually a decent Aegis carrier cause he's so damn tanky.

Lycan isn't the worst.

With Aegis you can safely towerdive in your normal form, and come back and then pop your ult if you die.

Or.

You can push recklessly.

Dusa is easier to kill than Spectre, and actually killing Dusa doesn't wipe your team.

Dusa with Skadi/Manta/Linkens/Travels: 2775HP, 1955 mana, 22 armour (5550EHP against magic damage, 6970EHP against Physical damage)

Spectre with Radiance/Manta/Heart/Travels: 3851HP, 20 armour (6161EHP against magic damage, 7591EHP against Physical damage)

Dispersion hurts.

But folks, what do you think about Legion Commander and Outworld Devourer?

Can I say that Death Prophet is the worst Aegis carrier? She relies entirely on her ultimate to deal damage after a point in time, and she doesn't build into right-click, just stats. It's really a rather awful thing to have on her.

Since you just can't have enough Chaos Breaker.
