Octarine Core reduces the cooldown of X Marks the Spot and Blink Dagger. So if your way of playing Kunkka is abusing Xmark on yourself, blink in, and get a free Tidebringer hit...then yes octarine is legit.

On the other hand, I think the lifesteal and the Tidebringer cooldown reduction has almost zero impact.

Still...I think Ember Spirit benefits way more from octarine than Kunkka. And does Kunkka's 6-slot inventory even matter? You don't play Kunkka for the ultra late game.

Satanic / Heart of Tarrasque is better for Kunkka
Satanic?? Why?:
Satanic is only 5950 (50 gold above Octarine Core)
and you get the following:
-Unholy Rage: 175% lifesteal for 4 second
-plus 25 strength (increased hp, hp regen and damage for Kunkka)
-plus 20 damage
-plus 5 armor (increased tankiness)
-25% passive lifesteal
Heart?? Why?:
Heart of Tarrasque is only 5500 (400 gold below Octarine Core)
and you get the following:
-3.25% of max hp regeneration
-plus 40 strength (increased hp, hp regen and damage for Kunkka)
-plus 300 hp (tank all the damage)
Core?? Why not??
Octarine Core is 5900
and you get the following:
-Cooldown Reduction (he dosent really need this, all his spells has really low cooldown and he would only require to use his spells in a teamfight once if he catches them all with boat)
-Spell Lifesteal (could be good, but meh Satanic's lifesteal is more useful for Kunkka)
-plus 25 int ( Kunkka dont really need this)
-plus 450 hp ( Kunkka needs this but there are other items benefits him more)
-plus 400 mana (unnecessary)
-plus 4 hp regen (still, Kunkka needs this but Heart of Tarrasque regen is better)
-plus 100% mana regen (unnecessary)

since everyone is hating on Octarine Core so hard, let me say something in its favour.

it reduces x-mark cooldown to a measly 7.5 seconds, which is not impressive by itself, but when coupled by its 8 second duration, means that he can x-marks himself after BoT'ing somewhere, resulting in him being in two places at once, enabling him to farm both lanes, while confusing the enemy team as to wherever the **** you are.

It reduces the cooldown on cleave and ship, which is ******* amazing cuz 600 damage on a 30 second cooldown is no ****ing joke.

The heal, honestly, is okay, because even if he crits for 1200, he will only be healed for like 300, which is not much to be quite fair when compared to the muh****in'satanic.

Also, kunkka needs mana.

Why? Advantages? In what way does it complement Kunkka's role/skillset?

(Discussion =/= 1-line statement)

I have nothing to explain really. I was hyped when I read about Octarine as well, but after tests showed an underwhelimg result and after I realised that I never got this item in 6.84 because there was no situation I which would need it I changed my opinion(gotta update my guide on that matter as well).

If you don't believe me, just try it.

UPD: Just realised you asked about the advantages of Satanic over Octarine Core. Well, I have something to say about that: Satanic gives REAL survivability, Octarine Core gives sustain Kunkka simply doesn't need. Satanic is still fairly situational tho, I wouldn't get that even in 10% of my games, maybe 1 in 20 gives where it is needed.

UPD2: and one nmore thing, cleave damage is actually physical.

Right, my mistake. It is not reduced by armour though.

The Cooldown reduction is nice, the Lifesteal from his Abilities is okay, but for 5k Gold...not worth it.

Cleave damage is PURE, to be more accurate.

Cleave is physical, unreduced by armor however.

the thing that people forget about octarine is that very few heroes actually benefit from the spell lifesteal. when compared to satanic which is pretty much a second life if you get it off, octarine core is less and slower heal, unless you have big burst, and even when you have big burst IS IT EVEN THAT USEFULL? weeeeeeeew im a lina who gets HP back when i ult, but does that actually help?

the lifesteal portion of the item is only useful on heroes with sustained spell damage that actually rely on being in the middle of the fight while constantly pumping out spell damage. lesh and bristle probably being the most obvious ones.
