While Winter Wyvern may have gotten have nerfed and deservedly so, she's gotten some huge indirect buffs that have allowed to her to adapt to the 6.86 meta in ways that only I've discovered and will generously share with you!
Now here are some reasons I've decided to chose Winter Wyvern as the subject for this build:
-Superior Version of Sniper: artic burn at max level buffs Winter Wyvern's attack range all the way up to 1000! That means no one's getting away from you and I've prepared this build with the skill in mind!
-Farming ability: Splinter Blast was left untouched in Wyvern's 6.86 nerfs which means it is still ideal for farming everything from creep waves to jungle stacks. Get a Soul Ring and start stacking camps!
-Ideal Stats: Winter Wyvern's base strength of 24 is only second to Jakiro's 25 amongst intelligence heroes (And her 2.1 gain is nothing to sneeze at either!) and her base intelligence and gain (25/+3.1) are well above average amongst intelligence heroes. Though her base agility and gain are subpar compared to "conventional" right-click heroes, her stats in this category are still slightly higher than the norm for intelligence heroes. What does this mean? It means that Winter Wyvern's got enough tankiness and base damage to manfight when the situation calls for it.
-Too Dangerous to Gank: Winter's Curse maybe more balanced than its 6.84 counterpart, but it's still a formidable spell. Your right-click shenanigans are undoubtedly going to catch your opponent's attention at one point or another, which means they'll try and gank you. Hopefully, they will try and 5-man gank you and that's when you ult them and TP to another lane.
-It's Part of the Meta: The 6.86 meta gravitates moreso towards early pushing and as the title implies, this build excels at pushing.
-The Really Feasible Way to Play the Hero ATM: With apologies to anyone whose made a Winter Wyvern guide in the past, but with the recent nerfs, it is clear to me that this build is truly the only way to play Winter Wyvern until OSFrog says otherwise.
Now that I've explained my actions, let's get 6-slotted! Which will look something like this:
upgraded boots of travel / (Pick one)
And it wouldn't it be a true right-click build without eating one of these:
Now this build may seem odd but that's only because it's beaming with innovation. Let me go over the items to help your blown mind recover somewhat:
- Dragon Lance gives you damage, health, attack speed and most importantly, 130 attack range! Now when you pop a level 4 Arctic Burn, your attack range is a whopping 1130! Which means you will become unkiteable!
-upgraded boots of travel are the standard 6-slotted boots and supplements Wyvern's subpar move speed with a much-need 100 speed bonus.
- Mask of Madness may no longer be the bee's knees it once was in 6.83, but the active will let you make the most of Arctic Burn's 6 second duration.
- Desolator... Desolator? Two unstackable attack modifiers in one build? That's right! This build doesn't require MoM's lifesteal, we only need its active to make good use of the sweet armor reduction that Desolator gives us.
-If Desolator doesn't pique your interest, then go for a good old Eye of Skadi and permaslow any poor saps that cross your path with a combination of Burn+Skadi slows! Furthermore, it's already one of the best stat items in the game and fits the whole ice theme Wyvern's got going on.
-Continuing with the ice theme is Shiva's Guard which gives Wyvern some much needed armor and some extra extra. Also, it gives you another way to slow enemies and combining the active with Splinter Blast means you've got enough wave clear for the whole team.
-With a skill like Arctic Burn you gotta be able to hit hard and fast. Mjollnir provides a massive attack speed boost to help you make short of any target you zero in on.
-Also, Moon Shard lets you get even more out of Arctic Burn and is good for melting towers.
In the past, right-click build have focused on providing you with new and better ways kill heroes and creeps. However, I've come to realize that a build like this will no doubt fall off if and when the game goes late (Sadly, a 6-slotted Winter Wyvern doesn't keep up 6-slotted Medusas or 6-slotted Anti-Mages, though Winter's Curse is pretty handy against them!). So that's why this build is centered on objective-based dota. Using artic burn+ Dragon Lance range enhancements along with attack speed boosts from Mask of Madness+ Mjollnir supplemented by Desolator's armor reduction allows you to quickly and safely take objectives while your idiot teammates farm useless items on useless heroes.
If you're going to learn anything from this, I hope it's that you realize that more often than not, the only one who you can depend upon in a game of solo-queue dota is yourself. So pick up this build, take objectives and win the game.
Remember, even if you lose, you can always blame the offlane Shadow Fiend who built Hand of Midas into dagon. If you win, you can still blame him.
Seriously, if Arctic Burn didn't have such a ****py uptime I would say legit. Just ask Kyfrog to buff duration to like 10 seconds and new meta? XD
Well done stacking attack modifiers. This would be a +1 if it wasn't a blog post
