Why do I always win or lose in streaks. It's never... win/loss/win/loss/win/loss. It's always win/win/win/win/win/win/loss/loss/loss/loss. Y does this happen. It pisses me off.
It can go either way. Lose streaks happen when you play many games after a lose, you play in so-called "tilt" and lose a lot of MMR in Ranked because of that.
About winstreaks I am confused tbh, this can't be luck, and you get little morale boost from winning a game because you are afraid of a loss to a degree after that. So I think Valve actually has some means to balance win rate(forced 50%).
Flip a coin many times. You will notice the exact same pattern.
That's just how randomness works.
"win/loss/win/loss/win/loss" is actually the complete opposite of a random pattern, it's purely deterministic. For proof, if your games follow this pattern up to now, you know exactly what the next match result will be (win).
However if the sequence is "win/win/win/win/win/win/loss/loss/loss" you have no idea what the next match will be, so this one is a true random pattern.
I wouldn't say that is's ALWAYS in streaks, but it is happening quite often, yeah.
There are dozens of theories on matchmaking in Dota2, and one of them says, that when you are winning too much, you are then paired with weaker teammates and better opponents. Go figure.

What? That's not randomness, with truly random distribution "W/L/W/L/W/L..." pattern is as possible as streaks, even more probability than streaks.
For instance, I just filpped a coin 15 times: tails/heads/tails/heads/tails/heads/tails/tails/tails/tails/heads/tails/heads/tails/heads. Both straight streaks and 0/1 streaks occured, as you can see.
Besides, it's not random in Dota - you can play in a bad mood, be a bad/good player, be stacked/solo, play on your/higher/lower brakcet etc. If you really want, you can boost your winrate but you can't boost a tails chance when you flip a coin.
You see that there is a sequence of ten zeros and a sequence of eight 1's. Streaks is what randomness is all about.
Actually patterns such as W/L/W/L/W/L have EXTREMELY low probability of happening and streak-like patterns have the most of the probability. This is due to "entropy" which is more or less the fact that there is only one W/L/W/L pattern (so low probability) while there are billions of different streak patterns (very high probability)
I've studied probability/information theory I know about that stuff.
Hamster has the right of it. There's no bias in truly random distrubtion. It'll only behave as expected by the odds over a large string of event (And even then, there will be streaks across the whole thing. There's no sense of order to random distrbution). It's what makes random data hard to fake in real life, because we don't naturally associate this with the probability given to us. (The joys of learning this stuff as part of lab-work)
The idea of a distribution behaving like 01010101010101, is more expected in pseudo-random distribution. Which makes things occur closer what we perceive the pattern to behave like. It's part of the reason why pseudo-random distribution is a thing in DOTA (I believe. That and just reducing the impact of rng by making it somewhat reliable)
OT: My personal theory is that the streaks occur as valve's cunning plan to keep people playing - You lose till you consider quiting, and then suddenly get a win streak making you question why you ever considered stopping. The evil fiends.

Ah this must be it. Thank you Sanvitch for enlightening us all to the mind control plot which Valve has created.
LOL. Balance is a Beautiful thing. <3
I thought it was just me Bro but you can't argue with Science...or the Universe? d;p
I won 7 games in a row but I somehow knew that my loss was just a game away.
I then played a terrible game as solo-support Dazzle. I laned with a Slark who had absolutely no idea of what he was doing. We easily lost that game but I just laughed it off. I knew it was coming.
I lost my next game after that (A really GG - My team was great and played well) but won my last game, so no losing streak...
There is a conspiracy and you heard it here first!
But it's probably got more to do with the a gambler's psychology though.
