Drafting Meepo

So guys im not really much of a guy that watches the pro scene (mainly due to the lack of one valuable resource: time). But i wanna ask you guys something about Meepo. So right now what i can see in him is:
-Flash farm
-Gank
-Global capabilities (two above combined)

I do think the fact that he can farm AND gank at the same time is quiet terrifying. So guys i am not a guy tha knows much about the meta, but why isn't Meepo drafted a lot? Does it have something to do with the meta? Or is he just weak? Or does AoE heroes become popular this meta?

he takes all your team's exp. He's not a good laner and has no real disable, they just cant move. I think I'd pick him to counter somebody like broodmother

OP hero. In the hands of a good player he's an autowin pick unless heavily counterpicked. And I mean HEAVILY counterpicked, like 3 or 4 counters.

But pro players are actually pretty inexperienced at playing him, believe it or not.

BigdaddyNotail and SingSing are the only people who ever pick Mappo in competitive AFAIK. And W33. There are just no Meepo players out there, that's it :)

But good old Notail support Meepo (yes he's a pure support player) ending up getting 12 minute Aghs and solo carrying the game is pure gold.

He's fairly decent against meta heroes actually, Jugg and Sniper are pretty much Meepo food. He just can't deal with Troll/Storm...but then who can ;)

The current meta focuses on burst damage to kill one hero of the enemy team and then continue a fight in a 5 vs 4 situation. Usually they pick carries that don't need a lot of stuff and have a good burst too. Well and Meepo as mentioned by Hamstertamer can't deal with Trolls.

There's a lot of reasons.

- He's really really greedy. Like, not just in the sense that he ideally wants a lot of stuff, but in the sense he will suck the map dry of everything for everything else.
- There's a lot of heroes that are decent against him in the meta atm; Lina and Lion are both high burst heroes, along with quite a lot of AOE control. And general physical burst heroes.
- The bigger issue is there's a lack of competitive Meepo players. Like, w33 is the most iconic player current playing (Xcalibur is famous for it, but he doesn't play atm), and I've not seen a Sing Sing or NoTail Meepo in a very long time. And well... when you are known to be a good Meepo, you'll find you'll rarely get the option to play Meepo unless you first pick it. And first picking Meepo is kinda eeeh.

I also think Meepo is a hero who just doesn't fit that well with how competitive play works, where it's more about the synergy between the players that's lacking in pubs than having the best individually skilled player. And because Meepo sucks so much away from the team, it can be kinda counter constructive in competitive?

Meepo indeed kind of vacuums the gold from the map, but so does Naga Siren, or Anti-Mage, or Tinker...and Meepo not more than these heroes.
Besides Meepo is wayy wayy less greedy than AM or Naga because Meepo is at the core a fighting hero, not an AFK farmer. Meepo needs Aghs and blink and he can start creating space, while Naga is really an AFK farming rat that sucks space from the team for 25-30 minutes straight.
He's even playable as a support! This hero makes space, he doesn't take space.

Lina and Lion are not very good against Mappo. Single target burst is not better against Mappo than it is against any other hero really, especially since Mappo has 35% base magic resist and builds exclusively tank items. The only counter to Mappo is AOE chainstuns, bouncy stuff like Lich ult and cleave Imba spirit style.

But yes I think the explanation is simply that there are only 2 Mappo players and they have other things to do right now. NOtail is playing hard support right now and he's focusing on the current meta supports, and Feedfeed is playing Troll with mixed results :=)

So this leaves us with W33. Sadly his team is not in the big leagues just yet.
