Razor Sharp Lightnings - A Guide To Razor (7.20c)

Masked_Man98
November 28, 2018

Introduction

Hello every one, I'm Masked_Man98 and this is my guide to Razor. Razor is a tough ranged anti-carry who is famous for his ability to cripple right click carries through out the whole game. Razor is a tank who lacks damage and needs to steal damage to be effective. He is a hybrid between tankiness and damage and his item build should reflect whichever his team needs more and can take down towers the moment her builds agh's.
You can also check out my other guides Here

Lore

Among the emblematic powers that populate the Underscape, Razor the Lightning Revenant is one of the most feared. With his whip of lightning, he patrols the Narrow Maze, that treacherous webwork of passages by which the souls of the dead are sorted according to their own innate intelligence, cunning and persistence. Drifting above the Maze, Razor looks down on the baffled souls below, and delivers jolts of scalding electricity that both punish and quicken the souls as they decide their own fates, hurrying on toward luminous exits or endlessly dark pits. Razor is the eternal embodiment of a dominating power, abstract and almost clinical in his application of power. Yet he has a lordly air that suggests he takes a sardonic satisfaction in his work.

  • Plasma Field interrupts Razor's channeling spells upon cast.
  • Plasma Field expands and retracts at a speed of 636, taking 1.1 seconds to fully expand.
  • Plasma Field gives vision as it expands.
  • Does 30 / 50 / 70 / 90 to 80 / 115 / 150 / 185 in both expansion and contraction, the damage stated in the tooltips displays the damage dealt if the target is hit twice.
  • Plasma Field's damaging area is actually a 200 radius ring, which is right in front of the actual visible ring.
  • This means that upon cast, it instantly damages units within 200 radius and can hit units up to 900 range away.
  • So upon expanding, the damage hits 200 range before the visible ring hits, and upon retracting, the damage hits after the ring passed the units already.
  • The field is centered on and follows Razor's current position.

Plasma Field is Razor's AoE Magical damage nuke with huge radius that makes it suitable to snipe and slow fleeing enemies and damage multiple jungle camps. It is a super useful spell to clear creap waves and damage towers with agh's Eye of the Storm and to damage two jungle camp at once. It visual effect of Plasma Field is visible for everyone so casting it while Roshing or farming enemy jungle is like a giant neon sign saying "I'm Here!". In teamfights, Don't use Plasma Field as the first spell and use the others instead, Keep it for the fleeing heroes or the focused enemy heroes so you can finish them.

Static Link

Creates a charged link between Razor and an enemy Hero, stealing damage from the target and giving it to Razor.

  • Static Link is broken when either unit dies or the link gets stretched more than 800 range. Nothing else can break the link.
  • Static Link keeps stealing damage even if the target's damage has reached 0.
  • The distance between Razor and the target is checked right before each damage steal interval. If the distance is greater upon check, the link breaks.
  • Static Link provides shared vision over the target while draining.
  • Can be cast on heroes, illusions and creep-heroes.
  • Multiple casts of Static Link stack with each other, each cast placing its own debuff on the target and buff on Razor.
  • However, the vision modifier does not stack. It disappears as soon as the first link ends.

Static Link is Razor's signature skill that gives him huge anti-carry potential. When you want to cast it on your target, try to be close to it so that you be able to use full potential of it. Casting it from 600 units (750 with talent) give the target chance to break the link even though you are faster than it most of the times.
In teamfights the best target for stealing damage are enemy melee carries, You will be able to steal good amount of damage from them and zone them out of the fight, Making the whole teamfight easier. Heroes with built it escape mechanisms like Time Walk, Blink and Waveform and Force Staff carriers are always able to break the link. So cast Static Link on them when they are fully involved in the teamfight.
In laning phase, Cast Static Link on the opponent often, This way you make last hits and denies much harder for it and easier for you, It also zones the target out and slows his XP and gold gain down.

  • The damage does not happen instantly when triggered, but is delayed by 0.3 seconds.
Once triggered, the area damage will happen, even if there is no enemy within the area anymore.
  • Unstable Current triggers regardless of Razor's current status. It triggers even when disabled or when invisible.
  • Triggers on invisible enemies or enemies inside the fog of war as well.
The ability icon shows a cooldown whenever the effectg triggers. However, this has only informative purposes.
  • This means that using Refresher Orb does not refresh it, although visually the icon gets refreshed.
  • This also means it is not affected by the Cooldown Reduction.
Time Dilation and Chakra Magic affect the cooldown visually, but do not affect the downtime in any way.

Unstable Current turns Razor into one of the fastest heroes in the game. AoE damage of it is great for jungling and in lane can save you last hits if timed well. This skill is leveled the last.

  • Eye of the Storm always targets the unit with the lowest current health in range as first.
  • If there are multiple units with the same lowest health in range, Eye of the Storm prioritizes the closest target.
  • The storm prioritises enemies which have the Static Link Vision modifier on them, striking them over any other unit when within range, regardless of health values.
  • When there are multiple enemies with the Static Link Vision modifier within strike range, the storm chooses between them randomly on each strike.
  • The armor reduction debuff on units lasts as long as the storm, or until Razor dies.
  • The strikes first deal their damage and then apply the armor reduction.
  • The strikes are not regular attacks, so they fully ignore effects such as evasion and Damage Block.
  • This also means that they cannot trigger the on-attack effects of Counter Helix, Moment of Courage and Reactive Armor or break enemy Tranquil Boots (Active).
  • Does not affect Roshan, invisible units and units in the Fog of War.
  • Aghanim's Scepter upgraded Eye of the Storm does not lower the armor of buildings.
  • Aghanim's Scepter upgraded Eye of the Storm always prioritizes units over buildings and fully ignores filler buildings.
  • Eye of the Storm can strike up to 42/50/60 (Upgradable by Aghanim's Scepter. 50/60/75) times and deal up to 1680/2750/4200 (Upgradable by Aghanim's Scepter. 2000/3300/5250) damage (before reductions).
  • When Razor turns invisible, the whole storm and its strike turn invisible as well, but still strike nearby enemies without them seeing or hearing them.
  • Eye of the Storm immediately ends when Razor dies.
  • Using a Refresher Orb allows two instances of this spell, resulting in a potential -170 armor debuff on a single target.

Eye of the Storm is like having an extra teammate in your team when there are no creaps around to soak damage. It give you huge advantage in manfights and teamfight by dealing huge amount of damage and reducing armor and when upgraded, It takes down tower very fast. Because of the long duration, Cast it before a teamfight so that you can still use it even if enemies stun you. Eye of the Storm cannot be stopped, Even Chronosphere can't stop it from striking enemies so initiators like Tidehunter, Enigma and Lion would be like dead meat when they initiate while Eye of the Storm is active.
Another usage of Eye of the Storm is farming a whole jungle very fast. It is a fast way for farming a crucial item but always keep it's massive cooldown in mind. Use it for fast farm when you are sure that nothing is going to happen in next minute (Good warding helps a lot).

Talents

+15 Agility OR +200 Health

+15 agility means more damage, armor and attack speed. Razor lacks agility and has a decent strength gain that's why +15 agility has priority over +200 Health but if you have a hard laning, then go for +200 health.

+7 Static Link Damage Steal OR +4% Unstable Current Movement Speed

Increase the damage steal to it's max by picking +7 Static Link damage steal and paralyze the right click enemy heroes.
Choose extra movement speed for kiting, escaping and ganking easier.
Which one is better? After patch 7.07 and the agility perk which is agility to movement speed, picking movement speed talents is not as good as what it used to be and since Razor builds Yasha, he already has decent speed but in some games picking it against teams that rely on spell casters, extra movement speed comes in handy.
+10 Armor OR -0.1 Eye of the Storm Strike

Extra armor or extra damage and armor reduction? This one depends on your item build. As an agility hero, Razor has decent armor but against some heroes who don't care about your damage steal like Ursa, Extra armor will come in handy.
-0.1 Eye of the Storm Strike is like a free Aghanim's Scepter for your ultimate and greatly increases you ultimate's damage specially when combined with Aghanim's Scepter.
+100 Attack Speed OR +200 Unstable Current Damage

It's mostly better to get more attack speed and increase your right click damage. +200 Unstable Current Damage makes your late game jungle farm incredibly fast but still, attack speed is better.

Items Analysis

Wraith Band

Wraith Band provides stats and most importantly, Damage and attack that helps you last hit and deny easier in the first minutes of the game and allows you to farm faster and deal more damage in fights. Get 2 or three of it.

Magic Wand
Cheap stats and charges that instantly restore health and mana which saves your life and helps you keep casting spells make this item a very cost efficient item that boosts your early game performance greatly.

Phase Boots
Phase Boots are almost always your first boots choice. It grants more attack speed, armor and extra movement speed while attacking and chasing a target.

Sange and Yasha
Sange and Yasha provides +16 agility, strength, damage, attack speed, status resistance and +12% movement speed that stacks with Unstable Current movement speed and makes you a lot more mobile and tanky.

Eul's Scepter of Divinity
Eul's Scepter of Divinity allows you to drain damage from enemy target during cyclone. Handy for heroes like Phantom Assassin who can take you down before you steal enough damage. It also gives you extra movement speed handy for chasing.

Heaven's Halberd
Right click heroes who can kill you so fast that you won't even be able to steal enough damage from them like Sven and Phantom Assassin could be easily countered with Heaven's Halberd. It also provides +25% evasion which makes you much harder to kill for your enemies and status resistance.
Note: If you have already built Sange and Yasha, Disassemble it and use Sange to build Heaven's Halberd.

Manta Style
Although Razor's illusions deal low damage, they are incredibly due to Razor's high health and they all have Razor's passive that makes them very mobile. Manta Style can be used to disjoint projectiles and purge certain debuffs.

Dragon Lance
Dragon Lance provides +12 strength and agility and +140 attack range that stacks with level 25 +175 attack range talent that allows Razor's leash to hurt even those passive heroes with high attack range who think are safe.

Hurricane Pike
Hurricane Pike is Razor's butter and bread item. This item provides both escape mechanism and a handy chasing tool. The item that can secure a kill or save a life.

Diffusal Blade
Diffusal Blade is mostly used for removing certain annoying buffs like Anchor Smash damage reduction and guardian angle. It also slows the target just enough for you to take away all damage that it has. Mana burn works well against heroes with low mana pool like Wraith King.

Mask of Madness
A very underrated item for Razor yet a very strong situational one. This item grants you +10 damage, +10 attack speed and when activated, +110 attack speed and +12% movement speed but in exchange, You will become silenced and lost 6 armor for 8 seconds. The silence is not a problem, Your spells keep doing what they do even if you're silenced. The reduced armor however is bad specially against heroes who can bring you down in seconds (Remember the Heaven's Halberd?) but against most of the strength heroes who lack good attack speed or damage, Mask of Madness is a true nightmare. +15% lifesteal is another thing to be hyped about, It allows you to last long in fights and the more damage you steal, the more life you would steal.

Hand of Midas
Hand of Midas boost your XP and gold gain a lot but in order to be efficient, It must be rushed. I suggest you to build it before core items. Razor benefits from level advantage in early and mid game more than any other hero that's why it should be played in mid lane and Hand of Midas edges you in mid game by providing this advantage.

Silver Edge
Shadow Blade and Silver Edge both give you the element of surprise. In most cases, Shadow Blade should be upgraded to Silver Edge not just because of +15 all attributes and +30 damage and attack speed, Mostly because of break and 5 seconds -50% damage reduction that makes it nearly impossible to manfight Razor. Break is a direct counter to Bristleback and Phantom Assassin

Bloodthorn
Bloodthorn is a heavily situational item. It can be used to silence and kill slippery heroes like Storm Spirit and Weaver and deal ridiculous amount of damage with crits and covers Razor's poor damage in late game but it provides no health so it's better to be built after tanking up or when your team has the upper hand.

Aghanim's Scepter
Aghanim's Scepter turns Razor into a terrifying beast who is able to take down towers and solo heroes in seconds. +10 all attributes and +200 health tanks you up and more and faster lightning strikes erase your enemies armor. If your teams wants to slit push in late game, Aghanim's Scepter is the best option then the Desolator

Refresher Orb
Refresher Orb is the ultimate item on Razor. Two instances of both Static Link and Eye of the Storm allows Razor to steal ridiculous amount of damage from a single carry or two and erase the whole enemy team's armor. But if this Refresher Orb combo wants to be as good as what it looks on the papers, Razor needs to be able to stay alive in the whole process and only tanky items are not enough, Teammates who can keep you alive like Dazzle, Oracle, Omniknight, Lich and Wraith King are also required.

Mjollnir
This is probably Razor's favorite item cause it has a lot of lightnings in it. Mjollnir provides +24 damage and +75 attack speed that allows you're auto attack to be a lot more scary. Zap every one with Mjollnir's active that releases a bolt of lightning to your attacker and 4 additional enemy units and It's passive has a chance of releasing a chain lightning that strikes 8 units, Suitable for killing illusions and Broodmother's spiderlings.

Butterfly
Butterfly heavily increases your damage and attack speed and provides +35% evasion that surely makes enemy right click heroes cry. A great item against right click heroes with no MKB.

Monkey King Bar
Monkey King Bar is a direct counter to evasion based heroes like Phantom Assassin and Troll Warlord and heroes who build evasion items. The Magical damage procs also increase the overall damage greatly.

Eye of Skadi
The reason Eye of Skadi is more of an aggressive item than a defensive is the reliable slow that allows you to keep your enemies close and use the best of Static Link and Eye of the Storm. This item really tanks you up. +25 all attributes and +250 health makes you very tanky and very hard to kill because of the slowed attack speed.

Black King Bar
Black King Bar tanks you a little and keeps you away from the rage of caster in the fights for several seconds. Very handy against teams with a lot of disablers who prevent you from keeping up with your targets or lock you down during the teamfight.

Hood of Defiance
Burst Magical damage? DoT (Damage over time? Zeus? Venomancer? Not a problem! Hood of Defiance's extra magic resistance and spell shield avoids the casters Magical damage in the time when their threat is at its strongest which is mid early and mid game.

Pipe of Insight
Having extra magic resistance and spell shield is great so why not we share it with the whole team to protect them against AoE spells like Poison Nova, Thundergod's Wrath, Requiem of Souls and Epicenter. Pipe of Insight provides nothing but extra magic resistance but it keeps your team mates alive and as long as your teammates are alive and your enemies are dead. We do not complain.

Drum of Endurance
Drum of Endurance is no longer the go to item it used to be and it should be built only for masking low movement speed of allies, Illusions and spiderlings and counter or stack more movement speed (If these heroes are in your team) heroes who can provide extra movement speed for their team like Spirit Breaker and Sven.

Heart of Tarrasque
Heart of Tarrasque turns you into a real tank combination of +45 strength and +400 health and amazing health regen makes it a solid late game build. Razor is super fast and he can quickly get out of the fight, Regenerate health and then come back to fight.

Linken's Sphere
Pudge, Huskar, Skywrath Mage, Lion, Bane and Shadow Shaman are just few heroes who could be counter with Linken's Sphere's spell block. Linken's Sphere should never be considered as a replacement for Black King Bar against disablers cause when it pops up, You are open for the vultures.

Vanguard
Vanguard tanks you up, Gives +5.5 HP regen and blocks decent amount of damage, works great against heroes who rely on attack speed more than damage like Troll Warlord and it can turn into Crimson Guard later.

Crimson Guard
It's so weird that Crimson Guard actually works great for Razor. More armor and damage block for you and your teammates helps you all have higher chance for survival in teamfights. If there are certain heroes in your team who have low armor like Doom and Alchemist, Don't hesitate to to build Crimson Guard.

Shiva's Guard
Think of Shiva's Guard as an AoE Eye of Skadi that gives you armor instead of HP. Both arctic blast and freezing aura slow enemy's movement and attack speed. Shiva's Guard works great against most of strength carry heroes because of their low attack speed, It also counters attack speed auras.

Assault Cuirass
Same as Desolator, Assault Cuirass reduces your enemies armor but it also provides bonus armor and attack speed that is useful for your allies to take down the enemies with reduced armor faster.

Blade Mail
The razor sharp Blade Mail gives two choices to your enemies, Attack you or leave you be. Both these decisions are costly for them through out the game. Blade Mail heavily counters the squishy hard hitter heroes like nukers, Drow Ranger, Sniper, Huskar and Phantom Assassin and ensures their death.

Boots of Travel
Boots of Travel maximize Razor's movement speed and gives him global presence. When 6 slotted, Sell Phase Boots and build Boots of Travel to become the fastest hero in the game (except for Weaver and Spirit Breaker)

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • Durable.
  • Strong anti-carry potential.
  • Strong laning presence.
  • Leash has no projectile so last hitting is much easier than other ranged heroes.
  • Not dependent on damage wise items.
  • One of the fastest heroes in the game.
  • Very strong pusher when build Aghanim's Scepter.
  • Not that mana dependent.
Cons
  • Lacks damage without Static Link.
  • Needs tanky items or it will fall off.
  • Level dependent.
  • No disables.
  • Can't recover well from a bad early game.

Game Play

Early Game

Farm, Kill and Don't get killed!
Razor needs a good early game farm if he want to be effective later. Remember these magic words Last hit, Harass and Deny. The leash's animation and harassing with Static Link makes it really easy to last hit and deny. When Plasma Field is level two, It is ready to be used as a strong harass and farming tool so use it often but don't spam it cause it pushes the lane, makes you get closer to enemy tower and away from yours that makes farming harder for you and makes you vulnerable to ganks that can ruin your early game.
In early and mid game you have huge advantage over other heroes because of your strength and agility so be Aggressive. Keep and eye on the mini map and participate in ganks often. One of the many reasons that Razor should be played in mid lane is because of his great mobility that allows him to have rune control and easy access to side lanes for ganks. Remember: Level two Static Link can steal more than 100 damage and this is enough to kill squishy heroes in a blink. The more aggressive you be, The better your whole early game will be.
Do Not Die For Greed!
When i said be aggressive, I didn't mean stupid. Getting kills in ganks greatly boosts your performance in mid game but if it causes you to dies multiple time, then it's not an option. Some heroes like Huskar and Ursa have a greater advantage than Razor in early and mid game so hold your horses when these heroes are against you. Tower dive is only an option when you can kill the fleeing hero with Plasma Field other scenarios are too risky to be worth it, You made the guy to run away towards fountain and he can't farm for more than a minute, This is a small victory. Don't Be Greedy

Mid Game

In mid game you must keep farming and ganking. That sweet strength and agility advantage start to fade away so you need to concentrate on farming a lot more than fighting. When plasma filed is maxed start farming the jungle with it. How? In all jungles there are certain points where you can hit multiple camps with Plasma Field then come back to lane and keep farming while it is on cooldown. Keep doing it for a fast XP gain that keeps that sweet advantage alive and gold gain. Eye of the Storm is another handy tool for farming a whole jungle and ancients. However, It's long cooldown is a bit of a pickle. If a teamfight or a gank opportunity shows up and Eye of the Storm be on cooldown, Your and your team lose a lot of advantage, Gold and XP so before using it as farming tool, Keep an eye on the map and predict the enemies next move. No aggression in the next minute? Then hit the jungle.

TeamFights:
Your rile in teamfights is Tank. Razor can be a good tank during early and mid game and in order to remain efficient during late game, He needs tanky items, The more the better. This is why push items like Desolator and Refresher Orb should be built when 6 slotted. In teamfights Initiation is death wish. Razor has no disables and if he initiates, He dies in a blink without being able to steal damage or reduce armor. Let the initiators get in, Then start the fight. The first wise move is to cast Eye of the Storm cause it works even if you become stunned, It keeps working. Your next move must be casting Static Link on the most damage dependent enemy melee carry or ranged carry if it is close enough. The point of casting Static Link in a teamfight is to steal damage so you can kill and make enemy carry useless and zoning it out of the fight, Buying some precious advantage for your team for a few seconds.
When the teamfight is about to end, cast Plasma Field to kill the fleeing heroes or to hurt your chasers to keep them away from you, Remember Eye of the Storm is still active.
Well these things are what you must do during teamfights. Razor is more of a practice and learn type of hero than read and learn one. The more you play, the more you win and lose, the more you master positioning and art of teamfight as Razor.

In The Long Journey To The Victory I Will Show You The Mountains And Rivers, But It Is You Who Must Pass Them And Learn How To Do It WithOut Getting Hurt Or Drowned.

Late Game

In late game Razor is at his weakest unless he build at least +800 health and specific items to counter certain heroes. He is able to kill most of the heroes in manfights but Teamfights are harder than what they used to be in mid game cause the enemies are tankier and can kill you faster. The best approach in late game teamfights is to play with more care and sometimes passively after soaking some damage.
Razor is a strong pusher in late game, Aghanim's Scepter, Desolator and Refresher Orb allows him to melt towers in 5 man push or split push. Whenever your team is not ready for a teamfight, Solo push a tower to drag the enemies attention and buy some time for your team, Then TP back and participate in teamfight.
Plasma Field has lost its killing potential but it is extremely useful for clearing creap waves and keeping the Eye of the Storm strikes just for the poor tower.

Friends And Foes

Friends:

Lion & Shadow Shaman & Bane

The cities of disables allow you to steal as much damage as you want. Lion can disable the target for more than 6 seconds with both Earth Spike and Hex, Shadow Shaman can disable the target for more than 8 seconds with both Hex and Shackles and Bane can disable the target for 7 seconds only with Nightmare and can also disable another target for 5 seconds with Fiend's Grip, He can also reduce the damage of his target with Enfeeble that syncs with Static Link's anti-carry potential. All these heroes can disable more than one target than makes them suitable for double Static Link refresher strategies.
They all have different types of nuke that syncs with both Plasma Field ans Static Link and allows you to take down squishy heroes with them very quickly.

Dazzle & Oracle & Winter Wyvern

These defensive supports can keep you alive while you are stealing and dealing damage and reducing armor. Dazzle with Shallow Grave, Oracle with False Promise and Winter Wyvern with Cold Embrace. They all have skills that sync with Razor's skill set. Dazzle can reduce huge amount of armor can slow and stun the targets you want to steal damage from. Oracle provides 100% magic resistance that allows you to freely jump in the teamfight and cast your spells. He also provides a decent root that syncs with Static Link. Winter Wyvern can turn the enemies against each other while giving you the time you need for stealing damage from the attacked enemy hero she also has two slows.

Omniknight
Omniknight is great help through out the whole game. He heals you with Purification and nukes the enemies around you. He makes you magic immune and keeps you away from the rage of the casters with Repel. He slow the enemies with Degen Aura and makes it easier for you to steal and deal damage and for the last not the least, He makes your whole team immune to physical damage with Guardian Angel. When there is an Omniknight in your team, Refresher Orb is a go to item.

Tidehunter
Damage reduction? Armor reduction and slow? AoE stun? Come to me bro! Tidehunter is a great ally for these reasons, He is a super tank which means you can have less worries about the incoming damage and he is a great utility hero who makes you free from building items like Pipe of Insight and allows you to focus on tankiness and damage.

Vengeful Spirit
Vengeful Spirit skill set syncs with Razor at any stage of the game. Magic Missile's stun that makes it easier to steal damage from the target. Wave of Terror's armor reduction that stacks with Eye of the Storm's armor reduction and Vengeance Aura's greatly increased your damage and reduces your enemies when Vengeful Spirit is slain.

Slardar
Alright so far you have realized heroes with armor reduction and stuns are your friends and Slardar is all of them powered on 2! Level 3 Corrosive Haze can reduce -20 armor for 18 seconds which is HUGE!. He has a movement speed steroid that syncs with Razor's high movement speed in chasing scenarios and he has AoE Stun and bash that makes. Razor and Slardar can erase hard carries in late game easily.

Brewmaster
Brewmaster and Razor can be really annoying for your enemies. Together they can reduce enemies damage, armor, movement speed, attack speed and accuracy which makes the teamfights much easier. Cyclone removes an enemy hero from the battle field and Hurl Boulder stuns the target and makes it easy to steal and deal damage.

Foes:

Necrophos
If you what it simple let me say that Necrophos is the best anti-tank in the game and Razor is a tank. Both Reaper's Scythe and Heartstopper Aura abuse your high HP.
Items: The first item is Hood of Defiance for both spell shield and extra magic resistance. Whether you have an utility hero or not, You MUST build Hood of Defiance on Razor when dealing with Necrophos. Next item is Pipe of Insight if no one else is going to build it. Extra magic resistance is the key for countering Necrophos this is why Glimmer Cape is such a pain for him. Wise and quick supports always cast Glimmer on allied heroes under the effect of Reaper's Scythe.

Venomancer
Venomancer doesn't care about the Physical damage you steal cause all he deals is Magical Venomous Gale, Poison Sting and Plague Ward with it and Poison Nova all deal massive Magical damage.
Items: Same as Necrophos, Extra magic resistance heavily counters Venomancer's abilities. Hood of Defiance and Pipe of Insight are the first items to go but the cheapest yet strongest counter for Venomancer is TP! Poison Nova takes a while to be effective and a TP 5 seconds after the hit never kills.

Sniper
Sniper is a hard to reach bastard who can slow you down from a long distance with Headshot and Shrapnel and take you down with assassination.
Items: Silver Edge is the best counter for Sniper it allows you to get close enough to steal damage and reduce -50% of his damage for 5 seconds. Another good item here is Hurricane Pike that allows you to get closer to him just enough so you can take him out.

Viper
The king of DoT doesn't care about the damage you steal, He slows you down and deals ton of Magical damage and in laning, He always have the upper hand so when you see him in opp team, go to side lanes instead of mid.
Items: Heaven's Halberd is the first item. It disarms Viper and evades his Poison Attack with extra evasion and gives you enough HP to counter his ult. The next item is Manta Style. Viper is very single target and two illusions are good for traping his ult and killing him. Also it purges the slow and gives you time to escape. Hurricane Pike is another option for initiation and escape. Extra HP and health regen are useful for dealing with his spells.

Weaver & Slark & Mirana

These heroes can run away from you and break Static Link easily then come back and kill you. Weaver can break the link using both Shukuchi and Time Lapse, Mirana with Leap's long jump and Slark with Pounce and Shadow Dance. The best way for dealing with them is to ignore man fights with them and focusing other heroes in team fights. But sometimes some items help.
Items: Hurricane Pike is super useful against Slark and Weaver they both have high movement speed and so does Razor but they always win the race so why not cheat? Hurricane Pike allows you to stick with them for a longer period of time.
Another item is Bloodthorn. As explained before, it silences these slippery heroes and makes them easier to take down.

Keeper of the Light
Keeper of the Light can misuse your high movement speed and destroys all of your mana with Mana Leak and can makes you miss your attacks with Blinding Light.
Items: A rushed Black King Bar heavily counters KOTL since none of this spells pierce magic immunity. Another cheap counter for Mana Leak is TP. When Mana Leak is cast on you, Simply TP away.

Bloodseeker
Same as KOTL Bloodseeker loves nothing but mobile heroes. But he can be countered fairly easy.
Items: TP! Bloodseeker has nothing to interrupt channeling and both Blood Rite and Rupture can be easily countered with a simple teleport. another handy item is Heaven's Halberd, Evasion and disarm really makes it harder for BS to be able to kill you. Blade Mail is a very aggressive item against Bloodseeker. Razor is a very tanky and mobile hero and these specialties combined with razor sharp Blade Mail means a dead BS who was stupid enough to cast Rupture on a full health Razor.
Tactics: Bloodseeker can cast Rupture on you and makes you a static hero in teamfights so you better cast Static Link on the closest enemy hero to use the best of it.

Conclusions

Razor is great hero but he needs to be played often in order to be mastered. No one and no guide is as effective as real matches for mastering this great hero.
Enjoy playing him, Keep your KDA sky high and have fun.
