Introduction

Hi and welcome to my guide on [Rubick].
If you are not familiar with this hero then start by watching this video on his skills by
DotaCinema:
Any mage can cast a spell or two, and a few may even study long enough to become a wizard, but only the most talented are allowed to be recognized as a Magus. Yet as with any sorcerers circle, a sense of community has never guaranteed competitive courtesy.

Already a renowned duelist and scholar of the grander world of sorcery, it had never occurred to Rubick that he might perhaps be Magus material until he was in the midst of his seventh assassination attempt. As he casually tossed the twelfth of a string of would-be killers from a high balcony, it dawned on him how utterly unimaginative the attempts on his life had become. Where once the interruption of a fingersnap or firehand might have put a cheerful spring in his step, it had all become so very predictable. He craved greater competition. Therefore, donning his combat mask, he did what any wizard seeking to ascend the ranks would do: he announced his intention to kill a Magus.

Rubick quickly discovered that to threaten one Magus is to threaten them all, and they fell upon him in force. Each antagonist's spell was an unstoppable torrent of energy, and every attack a calculated killing blow. But very soon something occurred that Rubick's foes found unexpected: their arts appeared to turn against them. Inside the magic maelstrom, Rubick chuckled, subtly reading and replicating the powers of one in order to cast it against another, sowing chaos among those who had allied against him. Accusations of betrayal began to fly, and soon the sorcerers turned one upon another without suspecting who was behind their undoing.

When the battle finally drew to a close, all were singed and frozen, soaked and cut and pierced. More than one lay dead by an allys craft. Rubick stood apart, sore but delighted in the weeks festivities. None had the strength to argue when he presented his petition of assumption to the Hidden Council, and the Insubstantial Eleven agreed as one to grant him the title of Grand Magus.

Pros / Cons

PROS
Great mid-laner
Good Disabler with Telekinesis
Can steal spells!
Can be quite LOLOLOL at times.
Fade Bolt for harassing and killing creep waves.
Shouldn't be focused that much in teamfights
Hooking Pudge is just soo fun.

CONS
Pretty easy to kill.
Loses touch late game unless he steals a game-breaking skill.
Victim to invisible cowards like Riki Clinkz and Bounty Hunter
Can't really go for ganks unless you have a "ganking" spell
Can get easily ganked.
Yeah.

Laning and stuff

Usually with Rubick you'll want to go mid because it's not necessary for him to go bottom or top. Use your Fade Bolt to harass and clear creep waves, and for initiating little fights, use your Telekinesis on an enemy hero and make him land somewhere near your team.
When you hit lvl 6 and get your Ulti, use it whenever you can. It only costs 25 mana and lasts 5 minutes at level 3. Remember to use those spells you steal whenever you can. At lvl 7 you get Null Field to have some resistance to spells. When you get a decent spell by using Spell Steal don't be afraid to go to another lane to gank some heroes. Always start it by using your Telekinesis .

Spells to look out for

Always try to look for a Pudge to Spell Steal . His Hook is great and his Dismember is good too.
Another hero to look for is faceless void. A lot of his spells are useful, such as Time Walk. It allows you to escape or dive in quickly. His Chronosphere is great to stop your enemies for your team.
There are a lot of spells to steal from and most are great, but look out for one that you think is best, and take it. Remember you can't take Invoker Quas Wex or Exort and Invoke, so it's no use trying to steal them. You actually can steal transformation skills such as Lycanthrope s wolf transform thing, and Lone Druid s Bear form. You can steal Brewmaster split ulti, so that would be a good one to steal.

Items

Starting items : I usually start off with two Clarity potions, but because I use Fade Bolt a lot in terms of harassing and clearing creep waves, usually you might only need one. I get two Tangos to heal from whatever harass damage or creep damage I take, and also 1 Healing Salve for really low health situations. I get 3 Iron Branches to resist a bit more to harassing but the main reason is for the magic wand I will be getting early game. Also get a courier if there are no other supports on your team or if nobody gets a courier.

Early Game : Now for every hero this is a must but anyways get a Boots of Speed for extra movement speed. Also now you should get a Magic Stick for healing. Now you have an option if you want to buy the Magic Wand recipe ( 150 coins ) to complete it or wait till later. A Bottle is optional for regen and to hold runes, but not so necessary. An Urn of Shadows is useful for health and for team mates if they need health. Also a soul ring is optional to sacrifice health for mana but not too useful for Rubick.

Core items : For the core items I get Arcane Boots for some mana regen because trust me, you need it. Getting a Drum of Endurance will be helpful to your team for team fights and stuff because it gives 10 attack speed and 10% movement speed to allies in a 900 radius. If you haven't got your Magic Wand yet you should have it by now. Getting a Mekansm is good for health regen for you and your team and you should consider getting it. Also a Force Staff for escaping or helping your team mate to escape, OR to push your enemies into your team and be a Troll

Later game : If the game is still going get a Bloodstone for it's stats and abilities. Once you have your Bloodstone get a Black King Bar for the extra damage and magic immunity.
Getting a Rod of Atos is also something you should get for it's INT boost and HP boost. Also the cripple effect from Rod of Atos is something very scary.
Getting a Eul's Scepter of Divinity is another option for it's Cyclone and the extra stats too.

Now for Luxury items sell your Arcane Boots and any Tp scrolls you have, and buy Boots of Travel so you can teleport across the map easily. Although the game should be finished by the time you'd consider getting this just get it anyway.

And most importantly if you get hungry grab the Cheese

Summary

Thank-you for reading this guide on Rubick it is not too detailed but thanks for reading anyway. Rubick out.
If you didn't like it then leave some Constructive Criticism to help me improve.
