Revealed by Moonlight
FIREWALKER reporting for duty, bringing you my second DOTAfire guide. After a bit of positive feedback on my Underlord guide, I think it's fit to bring you the teachings of the Lunar Goddess in a new Mirana guide...
Mirana, the Princess of the Moon
Mirana, mounted on the great white feline, Sagan, is an Agility hero capable of fulfilling a variety of different roles. The Lunar Princess's lore reads as follows...
Born to a royal family, a blood princess next in line for the Solar Throne, Mirana willingly surrendered any claim to mundane land or titles when she dedicated herself completely to the service of Selemene, Goddess of the Moon. Known ever since as Princess of the Moon, Mirana prowls the sacred Nightsilver Woods searching for any who would dare poach the sacred luminous lotus from the silvery pools of the Goddess's preserve. Riding on her enormous feline familiar, she is poised, proud and fearless, attuned to the phases of the moon and the wheeling of the greater constellations. Her bow, tipped with sharp shards of lunar ore, draws on the moon's power to charge its arrows of light

Upgradeable by Aghanim's Scepter: A passive effect is added, causing Starfall to trigger the initial wave of meteors every
10 seconds. This effect is independent of the normal Starfall, which can be cast on top of the passive. The passive only triggers if there are enemies nearby and
Mirana is visible to them. Breaks, such as that of
Silver Edge affect this passive normally.
The Goddess breaks the strata to empower her Princess in the time of need.
Sacred Arrow
Sacred Arrow, a linear skillshot, is
Mirana's second ability. An arrow with a range of
3000 is fired, hitting the first enemy coming into contact with its
115 radius. The target is stunned and takes damage, the duration and amount depending on the travel distance of the arrow. The further the arrow travels, the stronger its impact. Any non ancient creep dies instantly to this ability.

Mirana Leaps forward at a speed o
1600, applying the buff in a
775 radius. The buff lasts
10 seconds.
Both friend and foe alike recognize Mirana's iconic white beast in the heat of battle.
Moonlight Shadow
Mirana's ultimate,
Moonlight Shadow turns allied heroes in a
global radius invisible after a fade time. Attacking and using items/abilities breaks the invisibility, but affected heroes will return to invisibility if
Moonlight Shadow's duration hasn't expired yet.

Her tenure with Selemene allows Mirana to eclipse the ground, wrapping her allies in a cloak of shadows.
Skill Usage and Build Justification
Starstorm is your main nuke and farming ability. Grab it early for a more aggressive approach. If you're playing support and you are not your team's main damage dealer, wait before you level this up, as your other abilities will help your team more. Have this maxed by the time you get your Aghanim's Scepter for maximum damage output, giving you strong AoE and single target nuking capabilities.
Sacred Arrow is always worth an early pickup. Having a good setup can ensure many kills, and this ability allows
Mirana to roam effectively as an support. The nuke damage and long duration stun also helps securing kills as an core. The ability to instantly kill a creep also helps with early farming. Just casually
Arrow the large creep each time you pass a jungle camp if you have the mana for it.
Leap is essential when solo laning, allowing you to escape ganks. It also gives you a lot of chasing ability and allows you to secure some kills, helping you get an early
Aghanim's Scepter
Moonlight Shadow is a great teamfight ability, disrupting enemy attacks and allowing your team the perfect initiation. It's also a useful setup for ganks, and can sometimes help you escape even though it is easily counterable with
Dust of Appearance. Using a
Smoke of Deceit to start off, and triggering
Moonlight Shadow as soon as you get near the enemies is also a useful way to initiate. Grabbing it at level 6 as an support allows your team the full advantage of this skill. While playing carry wait until there are a lot of teamfights before leveling this, as your other skills will be more helpful in smaller skirmishes or while farming.
Support Mirana - Item Build Justification
Starting Items
Boots of Speed allows you to roam more effectively in the early game, moving between lanes and chasing down enemies.
Tangoes will usually be enough HP regeneration. You can also share them with your carries if needed. You can always ferry more regen with the
Animal Courier if needed.
A
Clarity should give ample mana regen to use a couple of early spells.
Core Items
Arcane Boots gives you and your team enough mana regeneration throughout the early game.
The
Aghanim's Scepter upgrade for
Mirana is very strong, making it worthwhile even when playing support. Grabbing this between
Observer and Sentry Wards allows you to bring a lot of damage to fights. It also helps you to farm and to transition into an
extra core on the team.
Support Mirana - Playstyle
Early Game
Supporting with
Mirana is all about landing good
Sacred Arrows. Make sure your team knows this and that they help you with setup. Now just run between lanes and secure your team some kills with on-point arrows, snowballing your cores into the midgame.
Midgame
Initiate ganks and teamfights with your
Moonlight Shadow, all the while farming towards that
Aghanim's Scepter. Remember you're still a support, and should always help your team, whether by saving your carry or buying some
Dust of Appearance against the enemy
Bounty Hunter.
Transitioning to Carry
After getting that
Aghanim's Scepter it is time to start playing like a carry, spending more time farming with that double
Starstorm. Build some nuking items such as Dagon to complement
Starstorm, or more traditional DPS items with
Mirana's already decent right click. Sometimes defensive items will also be needed, or a
Blink Dagger for more mobility.
Core Mirana - Item Build Justification
Starting Items
Starting with a
Wraith Band gives some decent stats and helps with last hitting and trading harass.
Tangoes will usually do for HP regen.
Early Game
Grab a
Bottle if you're going mid for more regeneration and storing runes.
Early Brown Boots allows for effective rotations and chasing down kills
Core Items
Phase Boots give some decent damage and good chasing capabilities with their active.
Upgrading that
Wraith Band into a
Ring of Aquila gives some useful mana regeneration, armor and damage.
The recently added
Aghanim's Scepter upgrade for
Mirana makes this item a usefull pickup, increasing your farm rate and giving plenty of burst and teamfight damage.
Blink Dagger gives a lot of extra mobility and allows for a decent initiation with a double
Starstorm, saving
Leap, with its long cooldown period, for the right moment.
Extra Burst Damage
Dagon
Dagon gives a lot of single target magical damage, adding to your already impressive burst damage.
Ethereal Blade gives some nice stats and a lot of Agility for right click damage. The real reason to buy this, though, is the active, dealing some burst damage and increasing all your team's magical damage on the target for a short duration. The damage increase allows your burst to scale into the late game, and the Disarming effect can also be useful.
Right Click Damage
[[Butterfly gives some nice armor and evasion, together with a lot of damage and attack speed through Agility.
Daedalus's critical strike is a huge attack damage boost.
The armor reduction from a
Desolator is very effective for pushing and killing low armor supports.
Monkey King Bar's True Strike can be very useful, along with a chunk of damage and a Mini Bash.
Mjollnir gives a lot of attack speed. The lightning procs are very useful for some extra creep clear. Very good against Mega Creeps if
Starstorm isn't enough.
Consuming
Moon Shard when you're 6 slotted for an extra attack speed boost.
Defensive Items
Black King Bar is always useful against non-piercing disables and nukes.
Eul's Scepter of Divinity's active can be used to purge those annoying silences. The extra movement speed is also nice.
Lotus Orb makes enemies think twice before using their single target spells on you, and allows you to purge yourself or allies.
Heart gives a lot of health and regen. Combine it with some armor for a huge boost in effective HP.
Manta Style's active can purge many debuffs and dislodge projectiles. The illusions can also be used offensively and gives a lot of pushing power.
Linken's Sphere provides decent stats and blocks strong single target spells. It is very strong against disables such as
Primal Roar
Miscellaneous
Bloodthorn gives true strike and a silence against a single target. Get this against very mobile heroes on the enemy team such as
Storm Spirit.
As an Agility hero,
Mirana makes a decent
Diffusal Blade carrier. If needed you can get this for the extra purge against heroes such as
Omniknight. Combined with
Manta Style's illusions it gives some decent damage and mana drain.
An early
Hand of Midas can boost your XP gain and farm. Consider this if you want to go really late.
Get
Sheepstick for some strong single target disable.
Silver Edge's Break might be useful against heroes with strong passives. It also provides some stats and a bit of mobility.
Veil of Discord boosts you and your team's magical damage. Consider getting this early if your team has a lot of other magical damage.
Boots of Travel are always useful late game for a global presence, pushing, farming and fighting across the map.
Eye of Skadi provides a ton of stats. Get this if you want a nice combination of HP and damage. The UAM slow is also useful to kite melee carries.
Core Mirana - Playstyle
Early Game
Mirana can farm the safe lane, but because of her solo laning capabilities it might be better to let her contest mid, or to use
Leap to stay safe in the offlane. Grab as much farm as possible and use your burst damage to get some kills. Get your team's support to help set up your arrows for even more early kills to get a fast
Aghanim's Scepter.
Midgame
After getting
Aghs, use the extra damage to secure more kills and win some teamfights. Use
Moonlight Shadow to setup these fights, and continue farming towards your next items with double
Starstorm, easily clearing creep camps and waves.
Late Game
Hopefully at this stage you have a decent amount of items, dealing tons of burst damage with
Starstorm, Dagon and
Ethereal Blade. You can also be a decent right clicker and help to push towers. Use your double
Starstorm to clear waves to push or to defend high ground, all the while setting up initiations with
Moonlight Shadow.
Friends, Foes and Food
Friends
Mirana works well in many different line-ups, being able to fulfill multiple roles.
Drow Ranger's
Precision Aura boosts your damage a lot, helping you to dominate your lane.
Abilities such as
Disruption, Dual and long duration stuns such as
Primal Roar helps you set up the perfect
Sacred Arrows.
Heroes that can boost your magical damage, such as
Elder Titan's
Natural Order gives you an insane amount of burst. Natural
Veil of Discord builders such as
Puck also comes into account here.
Heroes with a lot burst damage can make a good ganking combination with
Mirana. These heroes also benefit from the damage boost of your
Ethereal Blade.
If you can land a good
Sacred Arrow it allows other heroes to easily land their own skillshots, such as
Invoker's
Sun Strike
Foes
Although
Mirana is really strong in the current patch, there are still many counters to her.
Null Field
High magic resistance reduces your burst damage by a large margin. Auras such as Null Field and
Pipe of Insight can be a real pain.
Magic immunity makes
Sacred Arrow,
Starstorm and all your nuking items useless for its duration.
True sight makes
Moonlight Shadow useless during fights.
Dust of Appearance and
Gem of True Sight can easily be bought to counter
Mirana's ultimate. Well placed Sentry Wards can prevent
Moonlight Shadow initiations.
Strong lockdown such as
Primal Roar allows the enemy team to easily kill
Mirana, especially if this is accompanied by some burst damage against
Mirana's squishy nature.
High mobility on the enemy team makes it even harder to land good
Sacred Arrows. Force Staffs can also be used to move stunned enemies away from you before you can land a
Starstorm
Food
Mirana works well against heroes susceptible to burst damage.
Mirana can easily prey upon squishy supports such as
Io.
Even squishier carries such as
Shadow Fiend and
Sniper are done for if you can land a
Sacred Arrow or even just a double
Starstorm.
Glass cannons such as
Mask of Madness builders,
Slardar with his Sprint and
Bloodseeker's
Bloodrage are very susceptible to burst damage.
Sun Rises, Moonlight Fades
Mirana is, in the current meta, a very strong hero, dealing tons of damage. She is strong all round, scaling straight through the game, able to play support or carry.
Just remember that all items and builds are situational. You are in the match and you must decide what would work best in that specific situation.
