Introduction

Hi and welcome to my guide for the Terrorblade, one of my favourite hard carries in the game. He's a very strong pusher, great DPS dealer, and possesses a sick ultimate to keep him alive in team fight, Sunder. When he was first introduced in Dota he was buffed till a point that with just 5 items he could outcarry 6 slotted carries like AM, weaver, etc with ease. Now he has been nerfed quite a bit but is still very monstrous in the right hand.

Pros:
- Very strong pusher from mid game onward
- Can transform to a ranged hero in team fight
- One of the highest DPS dealers in the game
- Good agility gain
- Good movement speed
- Good starting armor
- Very good ultimate to stay alive in a prolonged team fight

Cons:
- ******ed starting strength and strength gain after the nerf
- Sunder can be interrupted
- No real escape mechanism
- Reliant on Metamorphosis to deal damage especially early game
- Not a strong hero early game in general, needs good farm and stay alive

Skill builds

Ever since the nerf there has been quite a few varieties of skill builds that you can follow. However I like to max Metamorphosis and Conjure Image first before Reflection to maximise his pushing potential.

This is a very good slow even at level 1 (2.5s slow), if your support has a stun it's very easy to get first blood at level 2 with Terrorblade, after your team stuns the opponent, you can Metamorphosis and slow him and get your first blood. Make sure you dont use Reflection right after the stun to maximise the duration. If your team creates a lot of opportunities for you to gank then you can add a few more points in this before maxing Conjure Image to secure more kills.

This spell is what make terroblade a fearsome pusher. Always spam this skill whenever you push a lane, especially when you are in Metamorphosis to conjure more ranged illusions for extra damages. with just 2 illusions the opponents will have to deal with double the amount of damage you currently have (120%) thus dont hesitate to use it whenever it's off cooldown. I usually max this after Metamorphosis to push earlier.

I think this is the most important skill in Terrorblade's skill list and it needs to be max asap. Not only it increases his DPS, it makes him become a ranged hero and can attack from a safe distance and this is a very good buff for any illusion based heroes. The cooldown is however very long (even longer than your ultimate!) so use it wisely, mostly for teamfight or when you need to push a tower really fast before you have to back.

Ah, Sunder. Sometimes a full HP carry has to run away from you because of this skill, which has the potential to turn the fight around immediately. Dont hesitate to use it whenever your hp is dropping fast. Tip: You can use it on your illusions or opponent's illusions if there's no other target for you to Sunder. With the recent buff to Sunder, now cast time is 0.35 and the chance of interrupting is much lesser than before, however it's still possible to interrupt if you are fighting and trying to Sunder an opponent with Skull Basher, Monkey King Bar or if they have any mini-bash/bash abilities like Time Lock, bash, especially when the opponent's attack speed is high, you might die without being able to execute it.

Early game

Get a Tango and Healing Salve for basic regeneration as you will need to stay in the lane as long as you can to farm for your core items. You can get a Quelling Blade if your lane opponent is ranged/have higher base damage than you to farm easier. Consider a Stout Shield then upgrade to a Poor Man's Shield if your opponent can harass you from a distance like Sniper or Drow Ranger.
If your opponent has heroes that harass with skills like Skywrath Mage or Lion, get a Magic Stick asap as the burst heal/mana will come in handy later.
Since your strength is very ******ed after the nerf, try to get strength item to make you survive and make your illusions more tanky like Power Treads and Bracer. Finish your Ring of Aquila for some stats, armor and mana regen if you want.
If your team creates opportunity for you to kill, you can get an Orb of Venom for some slow which can be built into Eye of Skadi later.

Mid game

Now you should finish your Drum of Endurance, the stats from it, especially the strength is very good for you, plus the bonus attack speed and movement speed will help increase your dps and survivability a bit more. (your illusions will also gain 5% attack speed)
Start to work on your first major item which is Manta Style for extra illusions and the debuff effect from manta is great too. You can either get an Ultimate Orb first for some nice stats or Yasha for damages and some movement speed. Try to push as fast as you can while helping your team mates if they fight early, after you have your Drum of Endurance you can more or less join an early team fight with Metamorphosis active. Don't stay in a lane too long without vision though or else you will be ganked and delay your core items.
Always bring a Town Portal Scroll, to help team mates or simply run away from a gank.

Transition from mid game to late game

This is a very important stage for Terrorblade that's why I feel a need to create a paragraph for him at this stage. If your game is smooth you should have your manta before 25 minutes mark. Consider getting a Helm of the Dominator if you fight a lot as the lifesteal and ridiculous damage from Metamorphosis will help you stay healthy in team fights.
You can send your illusions to push without you being in the lane now as the illusions are tanky with strength bonus from drum and manta. Keep pushing to make space for your team as well as keep your networth growing.
You should be aiming for an Eye of Skadi next as it will give you a nice slow, a LOT more stats and will make you very tanky to deal with. If things go smooth early and mid game you might even pick it up before 30 mins mark which is very good. Take roshan's aegis if possible too as you can't afford to die when you go push, either with your team or alone.

Late game

Now you should have a Manta Style and Eye of Skadi and the game just passed 30 mins mark. If your opponent's carry is as fat as you or fatter, you can upgrade your Helm of the Dominator to Satanic for more HP for your illusions and yourself, and 175% life steal is sick. A Butterfly is also another important and popular pick up as it will increase your DPS plus a nice 35% evasion to make your illusions tankier. After that you can either get a Heart of Tarrasque for more bulkiness or Daedalus for raw damage depends on your situation in the game. Finally, upgrade your boots to Boots of Travel for faster pushing power and base-race if needed.

Situational Items

There are a few items that could come in handy depends on the situation you are in:
Radiance: this is actually a good pick up on most of illusions-based heroes, and Terrorblade isn't an exception as it accelerates your farm by 2, 3 folds. However it does not increase your HP which make you vulnerable in team fight. Only get this if you can rush and finish it before 20 minutes mark. Note that this item doesn't scale well late game.
Sange and Yasha This is an alternative if you dont farm well early-mid game as it gives you needed HP but cheaper than Manta Style, you still can split this to build a Manta Style later so this is not so bad.
Assault Cuirass I dont usually get this as my team mate will get it for me. However if only you can farm and your opponents have stuff that decreases your team's armor like Presence of the Dark Lord, amplify damage or Weave, this is a good pick up.
Shadow Blade I dont like to get this item either as it doesnt give any strength or agilities for the desired bulk. However if you like to gank with Terrorblade and/or needs to go rat excessively, you can consider to buy this item.
Monkey King Bar When evasions get annoying, pick this up and smash them
Heaven's Halberd Normally i only get this if I got a Sange and Yasha before and my opponents have a lot of right click power, nice item regardless as it gives you strength, maim and some nifty evasion.
Black King Bar When opponents have a lot of disables/AOE/annoying nukes, you can get this to stay alive and Sunder in peace
Phase Boots Well i like treads more cuz of the strength but this is possible if you like to chase and kill people
Linken's Sphere I never buy this most of the times, but sometimes Doom can be very annoying
Mjollnir aye more DPS, but no bulk though, your choice, I dont really recommend it
Armlet of Mordiggian Ugh, i just dont like it even though the 25 str is very tempting, it can backfire real quick with the toggle. If you're confident, just feel free to pick it up though

Rejected Items:
Desolator The biggest downsize is that this doesnt stack with lifesteal which sucks late game, plus it doesn't give you any bulk for your illusions.
Mask of Madness I dont want to die to nukes
Vanguard this item is just ******ed
Skull Basher Well, skadi is just better, and you will be in Metamorphosis most of the times in team fight which decreases the chance of bashing even more.

Friends and Foes

Friends:
: This is your BFF, as his Shadow Wave can heal you and your illusions plus deal damage to the opponents. He can also Shallow Grave for you to Sunder and his Weave will help you tank more hits.

and : Free mana :D

increase your DPS, bulk with Overcharge, heal you, save you when you're dying, what can be better for a hard carry?

well if you team up with him I think the game will end in 20 minutes lol, his Howl will make you and your illusions push like a mad demon.

free heal free bkb, sweet

you just love his ultimate overall.

Foes:
the nightmare of any illusion-based heroes ==, his Echo Slam is very very annoying to deal with. Beware of other annoying AOE damages sources like Sand King or Invoker too.

, and The strongest AOE disables right now, be very careful with them, well at least Ravage is blocked by Black King Bar

Dont let him steal Sunder

He will be your nightmare, especially if he has a Aghanim's Scepter, you basically can't deal damage in team fight anymore

Your Reflection and Sunder are target spells, which will purge you if you target him. And he can suck your damage dry, which sucks.

He's not very scary to you late game, but be careful with him early-mid game when you are around your illusions, dont get caught in Berserker's Call.
His Culling Blade is also faster than your Sunder, so dont try to Sunder him

meh Doom

Strong against:

Well his Omnislash will usually be wasted on your illusions
