Due to time constraints, I haven't been able to do much one on one coaching lately. I've been casting some replays for friends in my mentoring thread, and I've gotten some really good feedback. I've decided to make a thread and post any casts that I do. If you have a replay you'd like me to cast, feel free to send the match ID to my inbox and I'll look it over. If it was a private lobby, you can send me the file on Skype (I can explain how, if you're unsure), and I can review it that way. Comments, questions, and constructive criticism are all always welcome!
I don't do a full cast, because this game was over an hour and a half long. This is also myself kind of testing the waters, as far as replay casts go. I had never really done one before, so it's new territory for me. This was cast when the team was new to the game, and there are a lot of opportunities for improvement that I point out. Skill builds, items builds (And why to go those items), and the importance of communication are all covered here. I'm happy to say that by the second game that I cast, Two Cents Gaming looks much more competitive, and the majority of my advice is followed.
This is my first full cast! w00t. I think I do a much better job this game of casting, and generally giving advice to all players. Since it's CM, I'm able to go over picks and bans a bit, which I think is really important to learn as a developing player. I feel mid/late this replays shows the power of well synchronized ults in team fights, which the radiant do a great job with. The dire really isn't coordinated with their team fight/communication, and it really shows in a few instances.
Great competitive game, which was also casted live by joinDOTA|Tobiwan! This is a great example of counter picks, and a tri lane. I think the bans could have been a bit more thought out, and the tri lane was placed incorrectly (I give some explanation as to why. Of course it's just my opinion). The game is VERY back and forth, and I really couldn't tell outright which team was going to win until the very last battle. One of the best games I've seen in a long time. Great job by both teams.
A public all pick game with myself, 2 friends, and 2 pubs. An invis rune, and a bit of lacking map awareness from my lane partner causes me to give first blood to a Timbersaw/CM lane. After a consistent string of good/careful plays we still end up winning the lane. I think it's a great example of how to turn your lane around if you're losing your lane, or solidify your advantage if you're winning your lane.
A replaycast of a few of my friends and I doing a trilane. This game had some solid players (Half having over 1,000 wins), in the high skill/platinum bracket. QoP vs Clinkz solo long lane, Nyx vs Tinker solo mid, Sven/Tide/SD vs Bane/Luna/Jakiro bottom. I feel this game excellently demonstrates several aspects of a trilane that players should be familiar with in game: Viable tri lane starting items, the importance of positioning, where to ward/counter, roaming, pushing, spell targets... I really tried to cover a lot here, because I feel trilanes are very common, but typically not executed correctly. Players just grab 3 heroes, lane them together, and BAM! You have a trilane! Feedback/suggestions are ALWAYS welcome as usual. Hopefully you guys like it.
Just because, even when playing with you, you're a very clear speaker.
Watching your second video at the moment, and so far, its pretty good. Clear speaking and a very large amount of information being explained. I think the only thing I could comment on in regards to improving would be to be more active with the camera. The little sounds @16min was adding to the suspense. I was laughing at that, and little quirks like that add to the personality of the caster. Great job.
Was that you introducing yourself in the very beginning? If so, that was funny.
I'll try to pan the camera around a bit more. The thing is, I try to focus the camera on what I'm talking about, or I'll get distracted (Refer to when I see the badger courier in the 2nd TCG cast. roflcopter). I'll try to move it around a bit more and stay focused though if you're not a huge fan of my current camera work.
The intro is a HoN joke. Maybe someone will post and laugh about it. The #1 caster for HoN since the beginning of time has been [HC]BreakyCPK, and he always started each cast with "Allllllllllllllllllllllllllllright welcome to this Honcast.com presentation, I'm BreakyCPK, gonna be your shoutcasting host, and joining me today is (Casting partner. Normally for competitive insight because Breaky wasn't a great player, just a great caster), and today we have (team one) against (team two), in the (sponsors of tournament) (Name of tournament) (Quarter finals/semi finals/finals). How do you feel about this matchup (Co-caster)?" He says it just as fast as I do in the video, if not a bit faster. It was a huge joke on Honcast for a while.
I just thought about casting, and Breaky, and I'm like "**** it. #YOLO. Today, I'm BreakyCPK."
Yeah, people have told me that I have a funny personality for casting, almost too much so, to where it's like I don't take it seriously. I'm trying to find a balance between fun, and competitive. Also, I know I pause a lot, but a lot of things go through my head when I'm casting and I'm trying to think of the best way to explain things effectively, haha. I'm getting better though. Sorry. ;.;
Thanks for the feedback though. Forget the camera you saw, next cast is going to be "camera 2.0", and it will deliver!

I wouldn't consider it over the top, you speak more professionally then someone like say Sheever or one of LD/Tobi's co-casters. I enjoyed it, and thought you did well.
As far as the intro goes, I've never watched a HoN casting before, wasn't really a fan. The game is too sporadic and if I wanted to play DoTA I'd just play the WC3 version. Either way, the joke kind of set forth for multiple casters, many people do a similar thing and it was all in good fun.
For future reference, I don't know how front page videos are applied, but I would submit them and have it on the front page of the site under recent videos. Maybe ask Atlas about this.
Wow. That means a lot. Thank you very much. Maybe when I get a bit better, I'll ask him and get his opinion.
+1!
You do sound better than most of the DOTA 2 newer casters (especially Sheever). You may have a chance getting into the shoutcasting business?Who knows, but the 2 games you casted here were absolutely perfect. No restrains, clear speech.
GJ Angelo, nice laid back casting style, and some interesting tips in there. Especially liked your points on item choice. Have to agree the game wasn't great quality:
- Strange Picks
- Lack of Denies
- Awful trilane
- No stacks, no double pulls
Lich really didn't harass DS at all, in that situation as a ranged support against a melee hero (esp when you get free mana for your nuke) you should be doing everything you can to drive him away from the XP.
Fatal Bonds Warlock was just bizarre in a trilane - Shadow Word and Upheaval plus the ES fissure should have been easy kills. Opposition had two melee heroes in the long lane, they should have basically been getting nothing other than harassed and killed. Instead they used FB, pushed the lane and fed them creeps.
Team fights - one side did well, the other was awful - why wouldn't you try to silence their support heroes instead?
Personally I'd much rather have a rich ES than a rich Warlock...
