Any ideeas how to rise my mmr? Im at 3k.I can mostly play support and mid, im decent carry with some heros.Mostly when i support, i buy all the stuff, wards everytime, sentrys dusts smokes, i barely have something for myself, but i still lose cuz my mid, or carry plays awfuly. When i go mid with a hero i truly know to play (Storm Spirit, Ember, Puck, Pudge etc.) and i own my lane and im doing good ganks, there is mostly no support in team, and the carry is awful again.I dont know what to do.Help

pick a snowballing mid. storm, puck, ember, QoP, Sf heroes like that.

if you are truly good then you should snowball into a win.

i went from 1.7 to 3.2k playing mid heroes like them... now i find im hitting my actual skill level so its getting tougher. but ill go away and practice and come back in 4-5 months and do it all again and raise my MMR up to 3.6-4k ez katka (i hope i do anyway)

play snowballing heroes ... if you are actually better then your ranking you will win with them. if not then well... get better.

I WILL DESTROY YOU ALL.... WITH FLUFFY BUNNIES

Stop playing MMR.
Stop proving yourself when you know you are already 5/6K stuff at solo lvl when no one spoils the game.
Stop thinking you owe them conceited carries your life while they throw games by misplays.

Play better.

Wow, so tip, much secret. What did you expect? That is the way you raise in MMR. One thing though: Everyone else is also getting better - you have to get better faster than them! Equals MMR up. And please don't trick yourself into thinking you always play better than average - you are at that level for a reason. A high score doesn't mean you played well. Be humble and critical to your gameplay and decisions (watch replays!). And the biggest, best tip of them all: Be friendly to your team! They're your team; don't flame them (like 80% of players do) for screwing up - encourage them. If you know better, tell them what they should do and why, not that they're idiots or n00bs.

On your so called "support" play: You buy support items - good - now you're doing 20% of your job. The rest:
  • Place wards in good areas (obviously) where you anticipate enemy movement (and don't die doing it)
  • Deward
  • Stack camps for your carry to farm later
  • Pull creeps into forest to get XP yourself and solo XP in lane for your carry (if you don't have to be in lane, don't be)
  • Harass enemies and push them out of the lane to lower their XP
  • Deny your own creeps to lower their gold and XP
  • Keep an eye on the map and scout out enemies - announce their movement and alt-click-display items, buffs, abilities, levels (on heroes with strong ultimates especially)
  • If your carry is safe in lane, roam and try to secure a kill mid for example! It's not necessarily mid's job to gank.
  • Buy regen items for your team - salves, clarities and extra tangos
  • Give kills and farm and runes and everything to anyone above you on farm priority (you are no. 4 or 5)
  • Sacrifice yourself for your carries - take enemy focus to die instead of them for example.
  • To sum up: Your job is not to buy support items, it is to maximize your carry's farm and your team's chance to win (surprise surprise)
That was a quick list of my 1-year-of-dota knowledge. Agh, longer post than I planned on... You probably know this, and maybe you do it sometimes too, but there are so many "support" players who think buying wards and upgrading courier before min 5 is "supporting".

So round off with the original tip: To climb the MMR ladder, play better!

Swixcap. Im doing everything you said as a support. I know that class really well. Im supporting 80% of my games, for like 2 years.I do mistakes often, because im a low player, even if i play this game for a long time. But that dosnt explain why i lose everytime. In 90% of cases in my team noone wants to play support, so i have to do it. But the other team still playes better every time. Its like im cursed to face stronger players than me.

Nope, you, and everyone else, are not cursed. It might feel like that and it is frustrating when you lose 10 games in a row with a ****ty team, but it's all random. If you perform better than the average for your level, you will - on average - climb the ladder. You are on your level because you play at that level. Now remember that playing support is the hardest of the roles; it's really hard to focus all your time on making an other player fatter. We're egotistic beings, humans, so people rarely like to play support and few plays well.

You might have all these support actions in mind when you play, but if you compare your games to someone higher level (watching your replay can be very useful if you want to improve), you'll probably see that they get a lot more out of their time. Find out why you make those mistakes you mention, why do certain games go better than other, how could you have used your time more efficiently and contribute more to build up your carry. With two years of xp you're probably a little better at decision-making (where to move, when to fight, where to farm safely etc.) than the average for your level (depending on how often you play). Share it with your team! There are probably someone on your team who typically backs off with 10% HP to heal up after you've wiped all enemies in a fight, instead of pushing the nearby tower. Or the Shadow Blade into Crystalis Phantom Lancer. Or the carry who farms his jungle when two lanes are free. Tell them! And be friendly ;)

I think I've said mine now so I'll end here. I'm just 3k myself, so what do I know. Good luck! :)

***, one more thing ^^
In my experience, it's a lot easier to have an impact if you play heroes that either harass well in lane and have a really high-impact ultimate (Primarily Warlock and Silencer, but also Crystal Maiden, Shadow Shaman, Disruptor and Winter Wyvern to some degree), or are very defensive (e.g. Omniknight and Dazzle).

I find when i queue solo there is only so much you can do as a support. If you harass/zone out the enemy efficiently, doesn't matter if your carry cant last hit and just autoattacks.

If you want to climb, play a carry or snowballing mid. Pray to the gods you get a capable support. And snowball.

If you are better, you will raise your MMR and you will get to a point where playing support will make a real difference. When i queue solo i cannot support, it is a waste of time (unless i go Warlock or someone that can carry with farm) but when i go in party play i always support because i have a higher rating, and friends who can take advantage of a free lane!

I 100% think i am a better Support than carry (jungle second, then Solo offlane, then mid, then carry) but i sometimes carry in solo just to win. You just cant have the enough mid/late game damage output/general impact on most supports to really decide the outcome of a game if you have a useless carry/mid.

Cmon guys, some of these comments are a little harsh, you've never seen him play. A lot of the points are valid though.

Personally I'd offer that having a support on the team is always better than not having one. If nothing else, you're providing essentials and not having yet another farm dependent hero who's gobbling up a fair % of the available gold on the map.

One big thing I'd look for in pub picks is to get a really easy synergy with your lane partner(s). Either you can harass their offlane to distraction, or setup kills really easily for your team mates without a lot of comms or previous experience playing together.

The other thing is not to get too much into the "pro-support" mentality - those guys rely on having 2 supports on the team, and good co-ordination and skills from the others. These are not things you can guarantee. Try to have impactful skills and look for cheap equipment options that will help you rather than needing a lot (e.g. Blink Dagger) that you may not be able to fund while doing everyting else on your own.

Good teamfight skills can also be at a premium, they can really turn a game around even if it's going badly to start with.

Step 1. Be good at Juggernaut or Slark

Step 2. Pick Juggernaut or Slark (whichever one you are better at) every game

Step 3. Profit

The only way to get out of the trench is to look at the staircase next to you.

Those guys on the other team? Chances are, they're just as **** as your team.

Lead by example. People will listen to you, you will win. If you get good at Juggernaut or Slark (well, Juggernaut isn't difficult at all to begin with) then you can easily climb. IceFrog provides imba heroes and pubstomp heroes? You take advantage.
