So, I am training my farming and carry ability, and it being my favourite hero, I play Spectre very often.

I used to run Vanguard as a first core item on her, but I've switched that (after reading a lot of guides haha), to a Poor Man's Shield, and start on core faster. The first thing I finish is Phase Boots. I find it very useful for chases, movement in jungle farming, etc.

Now, my problem is this. If I don't get pretty much free farm I struggle to finish Phase Boots at 6 minutes. (I'm obviously not a pro, so don't judge my low LH count. ;P). Very often in pubs, with one support in a lane and an aggressive enemy duo lane, I can't get the free farm I want. This causes me often to finish my boots much slower. And when its that time to start farming my first core, I'm at a loss.

Usually, by this point, I start making Diffusal Blade. Now, it is a great item on Spectre, and works wonders when killing runners in teamfights with Haunt. The mana burn helps a bit against certain neutral creeps. But choosing that causes me to lose any kind of real farming utility.

As I understand, Radiance is the best choice, because not only is it a great farming tool, but it also stacks with the illusions. But if I can't finish Sacred Relic by 15min, I'm told by various guides that I shouldn't bother. So should I consider another farming item? Like a Battle Fury? Or should I stick with assist gold and kills using her ultimate to try and outfarm the enemy by going straight to Manta Style?

tl;dr - If I can't finish Radiance quick enough because of lack of free farm, should I try to build another farming item like BF, or stick with Diffusal and Manta and kills using Haunt?

1. Ask for a defensive tri lane
2. Ask for wards and pull
3. Rush Radiance
4. ????
5. Own

I saw some pro teams run Drums+Diffusal Blade on her, and it works pretty well.Brings out the beast she/he/it is earlier than a Radiance. Then you can go for the usual luxuries:Heart,Siadki,Manta, even AC.

Drums also help you turn yourself into a race car when on the path the dagger leaves, and combined with Phase.

1. Ask for a defensive tri lane
Response : F-off, tryhard, but only in pubs.
2. Ask for wards and pull
Sometimes get this, which helps a lot.
3. Rush Radiance
The point of the thread is for alternatives. ;P

So if you can't finish radiance in 20 mins, just build normal carry items as Wulfstan mentioned. Other nice farming item could be Maelstrom, but I never tested it on her.

I saw the drums in a pro game recently. I might try that, thanks.
I'll test out Maelstrom too, forgot about that.
Thanks.

She has miserable AGI growth and no offensive steroid to help her farm (comapared with *any* other hard carry). If you can't get a fast rad (which isn't always possible, even with freefarm you might need to go drums manta) focus on using haunt to split push and then get pickoffs.

Maelstrom is actually a pretty good farming item. I don't ever build diffusal unless they have like Omniknight or Warlock.
Feel free to check out my guides for Spectre, Dragon Knight, Siren, Medusa, Sniper, Disruptor, or Void. They're pretty cool.
