The kings saga was one of those which I was gonna read. Not anytime in the near future though. Guess I'll just start that.

The various Shannara books by Terry Brooks are good reads. Especially the prequel trilogy (Genesis of Shannara) which are very much distopian in nature.

The Guants Ghost series is wonderful as well for grim-dark sci-fi, even if some people don't like the setting.

Since you just can't have enough Chaos Breaker.

The night angel trilogy is also good, lots of assassins and stuff. And ranger's apprentice too is pretty engaging, even for older audiences.
