Pros:
+ Impressive last-hitting power
+ High damage output even when short on items
+ Orb-walking slow
+ Orb-walking dps
+ Pretty tanky
+ Not too mana dependant
+ Viper Strike's slow goes through BKB
Cons:
- Kinda low move speed
- Has slow instead of a reliable stun
- Since ranged, can't use damage block and bash as well as other agility carrys
- Loses effectiveness on very lategame stages.
This is one of several viable builds on viper. The most usual builds you will see will either involve a Shadow Blade ganker, a Aghanim's Scepter Ultimate machine, or a Butterfly Dodge viper. If you are looking for an alternate to these, or just a simple build for Viper, fell free to try this one.
Here's the ingame guide, you can subscribe to use it ingame.
I call it "LoL w00t Viper" exactly because it isn't the most common build, but it's very effective, and kind of reminds me these moments where people say "Aw damn, we are losing to a viper without shadow blade" kind of comment. =D
Don't take this build too serious, but you can have a lot of fun with it.
This build is focused on early-mid game effectiveness, being very good at teamfighting and ganking on these stages, alongside with the potential Viper has to farm on the early game.
With high attack speed from Power Treads + Yasha + Drum of Endurance, alongside with high innate survivability from Viper + Power Treads + Bracer( Drum of Endurance) + Magic Wand, Viper turns into a killing machine. The high attack speed benefits Nethertoxin a lot, and you will see how fast you can kill your enemies.
Early game
In this build, the laning phase is strong due to the anount of life you will get from the full stats item build of Circlet + 3x Iron Branches. Regen from Tango is standard and you shouldn't ever leave base without them. Healing Salve isn't as necessary after 6.79 patch (because you now have 4 Tangoes), but you can grab if you predict too much harass and nukes in the game. If not, grab gauntlets for extra tankiness and accelerating Bracer ( Drum of Endurance).
The first skill here is Nethertoxin. Arguably, getting a point on Poison Attack makes it easier for a early gank/kill, but the benefit from Nethertoxin on last hitting is huge, and the damage from it on a gank is equally good.
The second skill I take is Corrosive Skin. Again, Poison Attack will allow to easier ganks, but corrosive skin is so strong on the laning phase, and will give you so much survivability, that it's hard to pass when you are focusing on farming. You can skip this, but I HIGLY recoment one early point on this. Don't forget, corrosive skin procs on EVERY kind of damage.
As a note on Corrosive Skin, most Pro players get this on LEVEL 1. The reason for it is that it makes viper so good against harass on the laning phase, harder to take down.
Poison Attack used to be your go-to skill until level 5, so that you could effectively orb-walk with its 0s cooldown, but since 6.79 patch, it isn't as needed. I recomend getting a few points in it for its DPS increase, but you can slowly build into it now. Nethertoxin will give you more DPS, specially in this attack speed oriented build.
Core
With Treads on, Bracer going for Drums, and Yasha, together with Viper Strike, you should be able to find kills and be a beast on fights. It's really hard to take Viper down
when he has so much survivability items combined with Corrosive Skin. Drum of Endurance + Yasha makes his movement speed GREAT, and easy to initiate with Poison Attack or Viper Strike.
Drum of Endurance is part of the huge effectiveness this build has on midgame. Very strong for team fights, ganks and pushing, its charges can be used on several ways: Upon the start of a team fight, it will give your team a huge mone speed bonus for positioning, and a great DPS bonus through attack speed. To take down towers quicker, using the charge (pay attention to glyph activations, you don't want to waste your charge on a glyph). On a gank, the regular aura will help with mobility, and the activation can make it impossible to evade your gank, and also possible to chase fleeing heroes. Finally, To save yourself or teammates, activating it gives a big movement bonus, and generally, saving the life of a hero is more important than a charge (just don't waste the charge when it's not very likely that it will save your life).
Yasha is the other part of this build effectiveness. It gives INSANE fighting power, and combines sooo well with Nethertoxin, with high attack speed. It's move speed is very important for you, either when ganking or when chasing heroes.
Generally, as soon as you finish Yasha, you have a big advantage in the game, and should abuse it trying to find kills, fights, and pushes.
Magic Wand is the kind of item that is simply great in all heroes, no exception on Viper. It will greatly fix your already low mana issues, and will add a lot of survivability.
It's worthy noting that Mekansm is a GREAT item that you can build. If noone in your team is close to going for it, you can build it right before yasha (in case you need the extra tank and predict teamfights) or after it (when the move speed and dps is more important).
In this stage of the game, you have to find kills and take down towers as much as you can.
Late game
If the game extends too much, you have options to build your carrying machine.
I tend to build Manta Style and Linken's Sphere after I finish core, building the linken first when I feel I need the survivability more.
If you are facing too much Magical DPS, Heart of Tarrasque is a great option. If you are facing more right-click DPS, either Butterfly or Assault Cuirass will do. The first will combo a lot better with Viper for the DPS it gives for Manta Style ilusions as well. The second will increase your team survivability and DPS, and can be slowly built, starting with the armors in case you need the EHP sooner.
A rushed Black King Bar is great is case you want to fight sooner and don't be stunned; Finally, Aghanim's Scepter can be done is case you feel that all you need is your ultimate, and goes well along bkb, since you will probably live to cast your ultimate twice in a battle. Don't forget, Viper Strike goes through BKB!
Another option that has been suggested on comments bellow is Hood of Defiance, which brings viper to a really high magical resistance along with corrosive skin, and the extra regen is invaluable. It also can be built into Pipe of Insight if your team requires it.
