Unorthodox Items Picks for Heroes

Nearly every hero in Dota 2 has that standard cookie cutter build which allows the character to reach his potential. I also know (especially since discovering this website) that there are a group of accepted spin off builds which have their niche the the game's meta.

But I would like to know if from experimentation you guys have found items and/or builds to work effectively on a hero which normally wouldn't touch them. Name the hero, item(s), and how you used in the match. Thanks!

Some support heroes can carry very well, but not many people really try. As Dazzle and Vengeful Spirit.

Vengeful Spirit can carry, she has a stun, armor reduction and an damage aura. And also can swap positions with someone, that's really good, mobility.

She can carry with items such as Power Treads, Helm of the Dominator/ Satanic, Manta Style, Daedalus, Butterfly, Heart of Tarrasque.

Shadow Blade, Black King Bar and Monkey King Bar are situational on her.

For Dazzle carry, he can carry very well because he has a slow/stun, a heal which deals damage, he can't die for five seconds, that's a lot, and he has armor reduction.

So, Power Treads, Desolator, Assault Cuirass, Daedalus, Scythe of Vyse, Heart of Tarrasque.

Here, situational items can be Black King Bar, Monkey King Bar, Shiva's Guard and Blink Dagger.

I'm slightly surprised Windrunner doesn't pick up on-hit effect items like nullfire. Ulti + nullfire om paper destroys mana!

@Hades4u Interesting, I've seen a carry Vengeful Spirit but never a Dazzle filling that role. Thanks for the input!

@Lord Draigo Diffusal Blade would be an interesting choice on a Windrunner. The active effect would also help keep the opponent nearby as well.

I haven't tried it yet, but I think Manta Style might be beneficial with Spirit Breaker. Charge in, pop the manta when they're stunned, then ult while your illusions are wailing on them (both of them also giving out potential Greater Bash). I could see it helping out if you are facing a tanky character like Pudge or Lifestealer that you don't want getting any hits in.

Windrunner with Aghanim's Scepter, Mjollnir or Monkey King Bar hurts. She can carry pretty well in my opinion. She has windrun which slows and gives her evasion and if she can land her shackle she can get solo kills pretty easy.

Wind might work as an anti carry due to Windrun. I'd still prefer other heroes like Bounty for killing, but the 100% evasion drastically lowers the options for most late game carries. Problem is that to operate effectively, Wind needs an unproportianal amount of farm, perhaps being played as the teams 2, when she realistically doesnt need it.

@StevenLK I like that Windrunner build! Also, if you just add Lord Draigo's Diffusal Blade to your inventory you'll essentially be a more efficient Anti-Mage. lol!

Just keep in mind that Windrun only evades physical damage so you'll still have a problem with any Int characters with a magical stun.

Venge + Dominated centaur + Swap into centaur stun follow up with your own stun = free kills

@Widdeonpwn That vid was hilarious. :) That Anti-Mage build looks awesome, but also very complex. If you don't watch you're cool downs carefully you could get screwed big time.

You need aghanim to do that.
