Facelift Void

When Faceless Void won the Model Update vote in last year's Compendium for The International, we admit we were a bit unsure about how to proceed. After exploring a number of different directions, we ultimately weren't confident that the community would be happy with a significant redesign, since it seemed like a lot of people enjoyed the general idea of the existing model. When we turned to the community, we learned that for the most part people were not looking for drastic design changes.

So instead, we decided to give old Faceless a facelift. We rebuilt the hero from scratch, using largely the same design, but with better model execution and texture quality. We added more detail, adjusted the face design, and gave him a new set of legs (it turns out Time Walk is tough on the ankles).

However, some of the early redesign concepts were pretty interesting:




Faceless Elf

• Pro: Attractive. Chiseled abs. Great-looking hair.
• Con: No one would want to play as any other hero

Faceless Rex

• Pro: Would be popular with sought-after archeologist demographic
• Con: Is large purple dinosaur - too lovable?

Faceless Lobster

• Pro: Adds exciting new Lobstoid race to Dota lore
• Con: Looks too much like Dragon Knight

Awesome-to-11-year-olds-in-the-1980's Void

• Pro: Combines best parts of every animal
• Con: Too subtle

Facefull Void

• Pro: Finally has a face
• Con: Oh God what were we thinking

Isn't he pretty much... well the same? Just better textures and stuff.
Thought they would do something like they did with veno but oh well...

They didnt change the hooves.
His in game model still has the squishy legs like he is an ant.
And the real development is his military camo that they have added.


In short Valve says: You chose FV. We were amazed. Then we asked you what to change. We got nothing.


Now you get nothing. Good day sir.

Yea I was amazed too when FV won, I voted for poor slardar but FV was REALLY popular at that time so he won.

actually, the F-Rex might just work. Yeah actually make void a non-humanoid hero might actually be interesting..

@Unscathed F-Rex would be interesting except for in their image he is twice the height of chronosphere :/ Also be better if he attacked with his head through biting. mmas build :D

Philosovoid.

This wasn't the only change btw. In RMM they have added a feature that now shows the highest MMR ratings on both teams and who has these ratings.

Prepare for some folks instalocking mid and being full of themselves because their MMR is 5 points higher than yours.

Faceless elf has a scary resemblance to my DA: Inquisition character. Not to mention that hair is fabulous.
