Hi All

So as some if not all of you know.

There are a LOT of tournaments in DOTA2.

Professional/Amateur/pre-Amateur

My team and I have been involved with a fair few of them and we have noticed that .... they are all horribly organised.

Horribly horribly horribly organised.

Example 1.

A month or so ago we were involved in a tourney(3k-4k) and out of the 16 teams. 4 matches were played on time and on the set date.10 matches were played without an admin and the finals had to be postponed 3 times because the admins/sponsors were not available at the set time and when asked if it was ok to play without them. they told us that unless an admin is present any games played are not counted.

Example 2.

most recently (as of last night) we technically won a tourney(2.5-3.5k) due to the fact that the person who was the admin for the tourney was also the captain of the team in the finals. AND when we were winning ... in incredible fashion btw (it was a massacre) they rage quited and forfeited the game and series.

Example 3.

A tourney about 4 months ago. 24 team tourney. (3.5-5.5k) the admins were not present for the first game. changed the rules halfway through. made up rules. forfeited games on behalf of teams that were ready but not in lobby (due to the admin not getting the password right). and for the semi finals they placed the wrong teams against each other. and to make it even worse when the final was played they incorrectly scored the winner of game one as the loser and wouldnt revoke their decision even though they were shown the result again.

Example 4.

ESL NEWYORK.... Nuff Said!!!!!!

How is this good for dota as a game? how is this good for Esports? How si this positive for just casual teams wanting to play in a tourney? thoughts? feelings? rage flame argue speak talk whisper ....DISCUSSSSSS

How do tourneys work??
I never understood.
Thats why i am never interested in pro scene, granted they interpret the meta well but half of those things you can never execute in a pub.

well it sounds simple on paper.

for amateur tourneys the steps are straightforward.

step1. create tournament. post the details to Reddit/dotafire/mobafire/battlex

step2. wait for the max teams to apply.

step3. create a timeline for matches and game times and post this to all teams.

step4. receive any amendments to the times. adjust accordingly.

step5. once the cut off time is reached no more adjustments allowed.

step6. have a competent admin present at each match. one who knows the RULES.

step7. Enjoy the tournament.

simples.

problems:

Step1. Need money,we are poor, sponsors are hard to come by.

step2. Max teams are almost impossible to get.all people are *******.

step3. needs to be on weekends as team players may have problems in coming on weekdays. Also, the time-gap factor comes into play, which is very, very problematic.

step4. very complicated, need a team of people to do just that.

step5. rules rules rules

step6. i volunteer <3. bonus:i'm also pretty heartless when i want to be.

step7. to busy dealing with sissies.

Edit:For us to go any further with this thing we need to know if the website's revenue is positive or not.

most amateur tourneys arent actually for money. most are for either cosmetic items or steam cash. it is rare to find a tourney for money.

step2. Max teams are almost impossible to get.all people are *******.

there are so many teams atm getting full numbers is usually possible within a week.

step3. needs to be on weekends as team players may have problems in coming on weekdays. Also, the time-gap factor comes into play, which is very, very problematic.

usually they are on weekends some even run over 2-3 weekends. and most tourneys are region specific. so timezones arent an issues.

step4. very complicated, need a team of people to do just that.

not really. i could do one easily.

step5. rules rules rules

standard rules are easily applied and can be found easily.

step6. i volunteer <3. bonus:i'm also pretty heartless when i want to be.

you cold cold man ... your perfect!!! haha

step7. to busy dealing with sissies.

that i find is the biggest problem.... people are too lenient. oh no its ok if you cant make it for another 4 days ... tough you forfeit. you havent told the admin you cant make it then complain when you are disqualified for not showing up on time.... TOUGH

simple. easy. straight forward.

this is more of a combination of admins and sponsors.

each tourney was run by different people.

also

ESL Newyork was probably the biggest example of how ****ing ******** **** it is for teams atm when it comes to tourneys. if a major tourney is ****ing up this bad then imagine what it is like for the amateur ones.
