Hi there!
I always play support in the solo-queue and after some time I noticed that when I pick Lion my odds of winning increase by a great amount. I do not say that this is because he is op or anything but I like his skill set and that he needs no items except Tranquil Boots and a Force Staff/ Blink Dagger.
Of course spamming Lion gets boring after a while and so I wanted to ask if anyone has suggestions for a 5th (in rare cases a 4th position) support.
I already tried out Omniknight and Dazzle but I felt like a douchebag despite winning the game with an okay score.
Tl;dr: Any suggestions for supports for solo-q?
Edit: I am currently sitting at 2.8k
You will burden the team and the team will burden you. It's a lose-lose situation. At sub 3.5k level of play you will most likely not be able to use her skills very well and if that is the case this hero is complete ****. The other thing is your team will not be able to comprehend the opening created by a winter's curse and be completely oblivious to chances.
Winter wyvern has similar problems to Oracle in that the correct use of every skill is extremely important. Much more important than on all other heroes. If you have not learned to play the hero on a very high level you will not succeed with it.
Suggestions on supports from me would be witch doctor, crystal maiden, ancient apparition and sandking.
DUH!!! Crystal Maiden. She has every single thing you need: a stun, a slow, mana, heals (go for those healing items), loads of damage to contribute.
Also, my second favourite would have to be Vengeful Spirit. Winter Wyvern is awesome but not for solo queue, since I don't feel most people really understand her. Venge is similar (nobody knows how to profit from her aura for instance) but still you got a very nice stun and less armor to work with. To me, you be able to self sustain yourself in a solo queue supporting you need to consider a hero with a disable ( Shadow Shaman, Jakiro, Ogre Magi).
Edit: I do not agree with the whole "don't play WW under a given mmr thing". I am under that mmr and I have very good results with her most of the time. Even if you don't get to use her full potential, a free Ghost Scepter is always a free Ghost Scepter and a AoE disable that goes through BKB the same. The thing is, she is very situational, she isn't exactly a jack of all trades when it comes to picks.
Venomancer support isn't actually that bad, since you can actually do stuff on your own. (LIke kill towers. Lots of them)
I don't agree. If do have a lot of push potential, but if you're the enemy team and you see a Venomancer alone wouldn't you want to gank him? He has no escape mechanism until he gets a Blink Dagger or another item like that, he just has slow and damage - and even that damage is supposed to help your allies kill, not you, so playing him with a team that backs you up is pretty different from playing him in a solo queue.

Well, same goes for Crystal Maiden. If I saw a CM alone I would gank her. And she has no escape mechanism until Glimmer Cape.
And play the split-push veno that builds Blink > BoTs

Na na CM has a "stun" and a slow and she can turn around on you and kill you BUAHAH CM for president
But I agree with the split-push veno build. Still not the best option for solo queue though, as I think your teammates won't make use of the extra space and probably need some help in teamfighting (I always felt that in solo queue people's deepest weakness is teamfighting).
There are some heroes that really need the team to succeed: for instance, I always wanted to play Sand King because I love his skills, but I thought I was terrible with him because I thought I didnt' make a difference (always late Blink Daggers and all my damage was the only source damage, so nothing else happened and then they got BKBs). Then I had this game where I was in a 4 or 5 stack and Bunkan helped me stack the jungle, and my team gave me space = I had my Blink Dagger at level 7 and chaos followed, with lots of kills on my part and a very good snowball. I had a team that actually smoked and ganked with me. Yesterday I went carry and I asked 5 times to my support if he could buy me some smoke, he ignored me (does he know what smoke is?), I ended up buying it all myself (that and some wards in order to be able to farm cause the map was black). Solo queue is a strange land full of perils...
