Thanks for all these replies it's awesome. I've tried out quite a few of the ones listed and they have all been very fun so far, some more so than others. But I was wondering something...

Coming from LoL supports seem very different in this game as some of them seem to be able to really catch people off-guard with good CC which is absolutely awesome in my opinion so this lead me to think about something...

Are there any support heroes which are supports during the laning phase, but later in the game can become good heroes in their own respect? I like supporting a carry during the laning phase, getting them kills and as many last hits as possible, but later in the game I prefer to become a strong 1v1'ing hero.

Any ideas who fits that? I was thinking possibly Necrolyte. Opinions?

Necrolyte is a good choice if you choose to go that route. Another one would be Visage (which requires some micro). Lion and Lina can do the same, but both need their high-cooldown ultimate to get kills.

Good luck in dota :)

EDIT:
Almost forgot (nyxnyxnyxnyx) Nyx Assassin :P

EDIT EDIT:
Timbersaw as well (although he can't support as well as the rest due to his lack of disables).

EDIT EDIT EDIT:
Zeus and Puck, but you'd usually want to go mid with them.

EDIT OF ALL EDITS:
Leshrac. Damn, I'm so indecisive :S

Silencer and Necrolyte are both capable of being supports who grow into carries/semi-carries. Lina can also farm very quickly with some mana regen and has a little bit of semi-carry. Other good 1v1 support heroes include Bane and Shadow Shaman - both very capable of taking out heroes easily under the right conditions.

I really like an aggressive play style. Kinda like in lane I let my carry farm etc. whilst I harass slightly etc. Basically aggressive supporting.

Zeus, Leshrac, Lina, Puck, Bane and Nyx Assassin can be aggressive in the laning phase, while holding their own mid-late game.

Ah, aggressive supporting. Ever tried Shadow Demon? Poison spam is so fun, especially when you get DK to half of his life with just that. Dazzle is also one too, with his damaging heal and really good base damage.

Alright well I think I'm gonna give Necrolyte, Nyx Assassin, Lion and Lina a go and see which one I like the most. Thanks.

[*] Remember that you can use Lion's Mana Drain on ranged creeps :)
