NEW BLOG SERIES
I smuggles have decided to embark upon a grand adventure, one filled with horror and joy, happiness and pain.... and a whole lot of feeding.
i am going to create a new account ... a brand new account. I will document every tenth game on this account up until calibration, then i shall document each calibration match and i shall receive an MMR.
Reason?
lately i have been having a lot of conversations about smurfing and MMR and skill and blah blah blah. people have been saying that Smurfing gives you a unrealistic MMR. That the trench is cancer. That only 3k and above is any good. im bring you all with me as i journey through the trench and climb the steep slope of newbie dota.
along the way ill explain how matchmaking works and how many smurfs i encounter. ill talk about things that newbies do that is very detrimental to their development and their chances of winning. ill try and help out those i encounter and showcase the wide range of different personalities that exist at the lower reaches of match making.
Back ground?
I have created maybe 2 or 3 smurfs before, only one i actually went the distance with and *AHEM* still remember the password *AHEM* my other two i completely threw away after 2-3 games because couldnt play with mates and the like, these were a long time ago.
the one account i persisted with left me with a 68-70 win rate%. 300 games. TBD party mmr and a as of recently 3976 solo ranked MMR only one big win off 4k. i calibrated at 3552.
on my main account i have 4000 hours over 3000 games with a 52% win rate i am in VHS for most of my unranked games... BUT i only have a 2.9k solo ranked mmr and a 3.4k party ranked MMR.
SO what im going to do is this .... show which one is right. or maybe? ill get something completely different? i might even get a 100mmr or a 5k mmr or maybe a 3.5k mmr. or a 2k mmr? who knows? hopefully this journey will show to some people that though match making is ******ed the eventual output.... is a lot closer to the truth.
As with most things i will not stray from my role or what im good at, i wont only support and i wont only carry or mid. i will play what i think fits. Hopefully something good comes of it !!!
so starting tonight i shall play the first game and upload it. i might even do a VLOG of it.
GLHF all and stay tuned to see how it all goes....
How do i know?
Nobody picks a meepo and do a blink poof fart all over the team so perfectly.
Nobody does a sleight of fist and searing chains with 100% accuracy
Nobody uses tinker like he was from 6.79 meta
Nobody plays pudge mid and has 59 flesh heap charges
Nobody plays alchemist and gets a midas, b fury and heart of tarrasque 15 minutes into the game.
Nobody plays a wraith king and gets an mkb 13 mins in game
Nobody plays Naga siren radiance okarina core
Nobody gets rampage as nyx assassin
IN MY POTATO BRACKET.
they did
Ergo: they were smurfs.
The way they handle situations are much varied and different than what we 2k boys do. Their responses are different and ttheir way of talking and expressing game emotion is different. I amanged to beat one using my TB and instead of snarling at me like all ppl do, he gave me genuine advice. Commended me without asking and even now observes all my TB games.
They are smurf and i like that smrfs are present in my bracket.
Why?
It tells me how a better skilled player plays a game out
It tells me this waits for me if i get better
It tells me that some one of diecisions i make are altho unappreciated belong way up in 4k MMR.
I tells me that i deserve to go higher
It tells me that playing with them makes the game more intersting
It tells me that EVEN IF I SAY MMR IS FOR *******, you cannot enjoy a game where an io and Kotl just relocate and recall you for fun.

BEST OF LUCK SMUGGS. and if you need some player for partying up in this mmr tryst, I AM YOUR GUY.
Imagine climbing MMR like climbing a mountain, surrounded by fog. You look up at mountain, and you're determined to climb to the very summit so you can escape the fog. As you climb, you face many hard trails and obstacles, and several times you want to give up. But after much trying, you finally reach the summit.
And then you realize.
You're still surrounded by fog.
Was about to throw in sarcastic reply, but then I saw that ending. +Rep, 100% accuracy.
And then you realize.
You're still surrounded by fog.
I actually learned a lot, and I mean a lot, with the guy - I noticed I got better at the game when I started watching the vids and entered dota fire. But at the same time I see him making many terrible games (that he posts because he wants to, he knows they didn't go well but still shares them, which is nice). Sometimes when I watch a game where he is too bad I just stop watching because it is too painful :D Otherwise I still see his games and streams sometimes, like that Invoker he posted some days ago.
I was just trying to mess with Smuggels and his smurfs here eheh I don't really know any other famous player MMR to compare =/

Man, this is a LOT of time you spent playing Dota - I thought someone with that many hours would be somewhere along 7k, since Purge is 5k and he generally sucks :P
But good luck with your endeavor!

The "Hard Carry" - if he's not getting Farm, it's because his Mid isn't Ganking and his Support is useless. Totally not because he picked a weak Laner and doesn't know how to recover from a bad start or how to make the most of what little space he has. They prefer taking the Offlane because it's clearly the best lane for them
The "Mid" - It's important to him to win 1 vs 1. If he doesn't Kill the other guy in the Lane, he's failed. If he doesn't Gank constantly once he reaches 6, he's failed. Clearly has no problems with priorities and should never focus on Farming up and leaving Ganking to the Supports.
The "Jungler" - It's important that this guy stays in the Jungle for at least 20 minutes, because the weakening of another Lane or lack of a 2nd Support is more than made up for by the fact that after 20 - 40 minutes, he's going to 1 vs 5 and win the game. There's absolutely no way he can get Ganked and no way his team will be destroyed 5 vs4 before he "finishes" Farming.
The "Support" - sometimes, they buy a Courier, sometimes they buy wards, but rarely will they buy both because neither are that important. All they need to do is sit in a Side Lane and expend all their Mana tickling their opponents at lvl1. They never need to Gank or place Wards, just sitting near their Teammates is active enough for them. It's okay for them to have many deaths and no Items, because Supports are exempt from finding Farm or having any impact in the game.
The "Initiator" - It's okay to dive into the middle of the other Team wihtout checkig where the rest of your Team is. It's always best to start a fight wihtout thinking, and even without any teammates in the vicinity.
The "Tower Hugger" - If you're standing under your Tower, you're always safe. You won't get Dived...ever...
The "2 pro for Tp Scrolls" - he's always in the right place at the right time, he never needs space for a TP Scroll
The "infinately healing invincible Hero" - never needs to start with Regen, did you really think anyone would harrass or kill him? He'll clearly get his Bottle without having to back to fountain.
The "Spammer" - If you have Mana at any point in the game, you're clearly not using your Spells enough
If you want to show how matchmaking works, you are going nowhere, nobody knows that, there are a lot of theories and speculations, but only Valve knows the answer.
If you want to do a kind of "social experiment" and make a bestiary(i'm sorry xD) of some sort, I can give you more-or-less answer as I remember my first 100 games period and I have a smurf where I play unranked on russian servers. Most of trench is russian-speaking, these are either russian kids or guys who bot don't play dota that much and are not very smart naturally. Sometimes there are either non-frequent players or just dumbasses, the former are actually pretty decent until you start doing really dumb stuff(I have played under the disguise of a russian 10-13 year old boy without mic once, and they were pissed off after my 3rd dumb death in lane). All this applies to other players as well, though I suppose there are less ******s as there are no cancer dota communities they have like we do in VK(most popular CIS social network) or dumb dota channels on YouTube. Some newbies happen as well, but they are very rare, and if they don't get out of these games, they are mostly doomed to become one of these.
That's a generalised trench for you, at least what I met when I went through my very first games(on my main acc my first 20-30 games were played on Russia I think, but vice versa for my 2nd account so you can say I went through first 100 games on EU West).
If you want to prove calibration gives you your true rating - you won't prove it as calibration rating is limited in nature(you can't have more than 4.8k on new account), but it is very consistent - there was an experiment where average players(3-4k) created new accounts several times and it gave them almost the same rating every time.
Gl tho, whatever goal you are pursuing.
