Valve needs to step it up.

There is a lot of discussion on other sites about this, I feel like we need to discuss it too. The last few months Valve just hasn't held up its end of the deal. They don't give us our favorite events, they continually delay Source 2, and our servers are terrible.

Then they release a sub-par event that they still make money off of because people empty their wallets out before they even know what they are getting. Besides the fact that they pretty much guaranteed themselves a server crash with the idiotic "only open for 10 minutes" garbage.

For Dota 2 being such a large game, I don't know I just feel like Valve needs to give us more and better attention.

I know right? Seriously, charging 27$ for fancy items isn't cool. Having to buy items to even play a game mode isn't cool. Only opening the game mode for 10 minutes at RANDOM times is uncool. No Frostivus. No hero models for some heroes. Two events in a row where you need a arcana to get stuff. So tired of this.

It's changed from "Who has the most skill?" to "Who has the most hats?"

It's lazy. With 27 dollars, I could buy a load of stuff that would help me more than the arcana. Remember when cosmetics were promised to have no game impact? Those days are gone, it seems. I was fine when the Terri-blade and LC arcanas came out, because they just looked nifty and they didn't really impact the game. Now? "Oh, I see you want to participate in this event. One of you, in this match, has to waste 27 dollars on an event that won't impact their life outside of dota. BUY OUR HATS!"

Continually delay Source 2? What? They are going to release it with L4D3 / HL3 (already leaked pictures of L4D3). You don't have to buy the item to play the game mode either. Nobody forces you to pay for the item. And it influences a game mode that is purely optional, has nothing to do with how the game is intended to be played normally. Just calm down people.


Getting good stuff? You basically spend money on hats to have the chance to get more hats. Hats are optional. Stop crying, deal with it.

I wasn't aware of that about Source 2, I still thought they were supposed to release it earlier though. And of course it isn't required to spend the money, the difference is just that we went from amazing, free events that were a lot of fun to weirder, less fun events that require a purchase. It's mainly a comparison thing I suppose. And servers are still garbage.

Valve stated they won't make an event like Diretide until Source 2 is finished, there's a blog post about it and you can see that post in a recent reddit submission.

i really dont care about the so called pay to win. its only intended for a 'fun' game mode where you can win free hats.
the thing i do blame them for is not having their servers prepared and how they did it in general. obviously they cant do this thing for hours, or hats would be worth nothing anymore. but atleast notify people earlier then an hour beforehand, and HAVE YOUR SERVERS PREPARED SO PEOPLE CAN ACTUALLY PLAY NORMAL GAMES.

I was aware of the post and I know they aren't going to, I just feel like its... lazy I guess. They make it sound like its some huge opportunity cost, "if we give you a normal event Source 2 will be delayed." I suppose I just feel that with the millions and millions of dollars we gave them over the international that perhaps they could find it in them to do both.

I really don't like the way you need to buy acarnes to do the events hence I have not been able to do the last 2 events and that sucks just because I wont spend $30 on a item set. :(
