Hello everyone, I'm a new dota player, so pardon my ignorance if what I'm asking seems very simple to all of you.
My question is how do we poof a single meepo or a group of meepos away to another meepo without changing camera to the destination meepo before the poof is cast. I have seen many pro players like w33, notail, etc. doing this to escape or to fast switch lanes with boots of travel to push very fast.
Check this video if I'm not explaining my problem properly: Meepo
If you are a new player, i would suggest not playing [[meepo] as he is a reasonably high-skilled hero who can single handedly-destroy the enemies game or become a side-dish for the enemy heroes. Also he is a horrible exp leech
there is also control grouping.
if you have selected a control group and if you press control on your keyboard plus the key for poof, all the clones poof.
That way you dont have to switch one by one. Its also good for blink+poof which pros do. However, my advice will be the saem as our other member is to avoid meepo in games until you get the sense of game and get decent at micro for other heroes, then you can try meepo in unfair bots and see how it goes.
Only then can you play meepo in pubs. He is a star pick really. He is not good against coordinated team who will wreck his lane as he has ****ty laning presence, he literally neeeds to be babysat till level 4
Thank you for your advice. I'm currently practising meepo against unfair bots, winning some & losing some. I have won some ranked all pick matches ( last picking meepo :) ). I can blink poof reasonably well, have learned about control groups & unified control orders. Can someone suggest some other meepo tricks? Perhaps better control groups? Better style of playing? Better items? Better Item progression? when should I rush travel boots, scepter, etc.?
My key bindings for control groups are-
Select Hero: E ( Main Meepo )
Select All Other Units: 1 ( Other 4 Meepos )
Control Group 1: 2 ( Meepo No. 2 )
Control Group 2: 3 ( Meepo No. 3 )
Control Group 3: 4 ( Meepo No. 4 )
Control Group 4: 5 ( Meepo No. 5 )
Control Group 5: D ( Meepo No. 2 & 3 )
Control Group 6: F ( Meepo No. 4 & 5 )
Item Slot 3: R ( I keep blink dagger here )
To Blink Poof, I select 'E', start walking towards target, press '1', spam 'W' + 'TAB' + click 4 times, press 'E', then blink by pressing 'R' & clicking at desired location. I if I have to cancel blink poof for some reason, I press & hold 'Ctrl', then press 'S' to stop.
I like going mid, at around 1:30, I hit level 3, send meepo no 2 to stack the hard camp, call him back after that. I keep stacking the hard camp upto 5 times, if I have 3 meepos, I try to stack to 2 camps at once using shift queue commands. I try to roatate to other lanes to gank with main meepo, farming the jungle with others. I know that double tapping on a control group button, shifts camera position to that group, I use this to farm jungle faster.
My item progression & rough timings are-
tango x 1 -> quelling blade -> shield ( starting items )
stout shield ( 1:00 ) ( helps block 20 damage from heroes every time, I guess )
treads ( 5:00 )
point booster ( 9:00 )
scepter ( 15:00 )
blink dagger ( 18:00 )
boots of travel ( 21:00 )
hex ( 27:00 )
heart of tarrasque ( 34:00 )
eye of skadi ( 39:00 )
assault cuirass ( 45:00 )
I always carry tp after getting scepter to rotate to other lanes & help allies.
My Micro Skills are average, I guess. When I see a meepo getting low, I select his control group & send him back or poof away to another meepo. My fingers get mixed up sometimes, still working on that.
I lose a lot of normal unranked matches due counter picks, allies competing for farm, my bad micro, etc. I have watched w33, notail, dendi, etc. meepo gameplay but I have hit a wall recently & I can't seem to pass through. Losing with meepo is pretty depressing. :(
I have practised 35-40 unfair bots game now( around 55% win rate, yes I keep record, I'm obsessed with meepo ).
Honestly, methinks replace assault cuirass with ethereal blade. 2 second solo kill.
some pros rush boots of travels and try to rat. see how it goes for you.
and as an advice, try watching download videos of w33 ,notail etc. and see them in player perspective inside the dota client. You will see it is refreshingly different, even the ones you have watched.
Your control grouping is fine. What you need is a group for 2,3,4,5 together. that way you eliminate pressing poof four times as you do.
From the looks of it, you have above average meepo skills and are ready to own some pubs.
You dont mention roshaning with meepo, which i think is a leverage for him both interrupting enemy roshes and having an upper hand over rosh fights. Late game you need aegis because any true carry can **** on him hard. Push when rosh is up then take aegis, kill the team throne the damn thing in one go.
I will try to watch the games inside dota client with player perspective. That seems good.
I have key '1' assigned to select all other units, it selects meepo nos. 2, 3, 4 & 5. I have tried putting 1 control group for these 4 meepos, holding down control & pressing W + click, it doesn't cause them to poof together, it outputs a message "Ability is at Max Level". I have to TAB + W + Click. I have selected "Unified Unit Orders" in Options. Am I doing it wrong? Please elaborate. Will using quick cast help? ( Quick cast causes the poofing to other meepos on minimap go wrong sometimes, I accidentally press 'W' before pointing, I'm a noob, I know. :( )
About Roshaning, I don't do it often, that seems good. Any advice on when to do it? After getting scepter + blink or before that? Please tell me the rough game time when I should go for 1st rosh? Do I need Vlads? I don't like vlads on meepo. Should I keep 1 meepo in fountain & others roshing & rotate when needed?
Thank you again for taking out the time to reply to my pesky questions. :)
i think your learn ability button is control on keyboard. change that and check your settings in the panel settings in dota.
roshing is always good.
you dont need vlads just keep rotating. or you can have someone tank it for you.
Taking rosh after aghs and boots of travels is good.
