Just played a captains draft as Magnus. Probably one of my worst games yet. The captain we had did the one thing a captain should never do. Picking a hero that someone doesn't know how to play. I tried to ask him what we were going for in way of strategy and what positions we were still needing during the draft. Yet he kept on listening to this other guy to pick certain heroes.
So I got stuck playing Magnus. A hero that I never played before and really don't care to ever play again. Nothing against the hero; but his abilities and my play style don't mix that well. Also there were tons of better mids still in the pool.
The other heroes he picked were either heroes that I have never played or am not good at playing either so I had no chance of playing something else.
So I fail miserably and get all the blame cause I got stuck playing a hero I never played.
had something similar happen to me... i offlane and i do it (i think ) well but this guy wanted me to play spectre hard carry... im like dude ive played him once or twice give it to someone else but no he went a picked like 4 heroes that didnt have any synergy or a cohesive strategy and then when i died for the first time ... AT 24 MINUTES i was 5-0-9 at that time he had the nerve to type in all chat..
" gg noob spectre afk farming ez game " .... EXCUSE YOU!!!! we lost but that was more to the fact that they had 6 towers by 30 mins and i had to skip radiance for a man fight build :(
though in saying that i was captain one game in solo ranked and i basically just picked a solid tri core and then this bloke called "JUmpYCrack*****" (not even kidding) asked for meepo and said if he didnt get meepo he would feed ... meh bugger it gave him meepo ...
You probably want to avoid CM if you haven't played all heroes a couple of times to get a feel for it. Practice heroes in AP for a bit and preferably in normal match making until you're ready with that specific hero.
You know that saying from Malcom X? "There is no better than adversity. Every defeat, every heartbreak, every loss, contains its own seed, its own lesson on how to improve your performance the next time." See what mistakes you've made and try to improve it.
(TBH, was just looking for a variation of a loss is a win quote)
If you want to play Captain's Mode without a party, then be aware that you may play a hero that isn't your favourite. I am usually asking for Jakiro or other support (if I am not able to click fast enough to get a captain), but when captain says he has different strategy in mind and can explain me this, then I am completely ok with that. One time I had to play Visage, which I thought I would completely suck, but it turned out to be a succesful attempt.
Captain's who cannot communicate are awful. But in around 3.5k MMR, where I am currently in, I can't remember bad captains. Bad experience that I had was from non-ranked Captain's Mode.
Anyway, try other heroes too. Magnus is very rewarding to play if you will land that 4-5 man Reverse Polarity. This gives that wonderful feeling. Similar to Vacuum into Wall of Replica. Controlling the enemy team.
That sucks man, but as someone that loves to play Magnus (he was my favourite hero at the beginning, now it's Sandking XD) I'd say to give this hero another chance, he's very fun to play once you get blink dagger... appearing behind the enemy and charging them into your team is always awesome :D
I agree though that you need to have played every hero at least once before going for cm alone, many times already i did ranked cm alone and there was always a player that would ask a specific hero because he couldn't play anything else...
I can play most heroes competently. It was just this one draft that he picked all heroes that I wasn't comfortable with and had very little time playing.
