I want to start trying out a farming role because I am starting to see more supports being picked(wow never saw that coming). I wanted to know some good melee carries with lane presence. Preferably easier heroes who will be able to take harass and still get good farm. If people could name a few heroes and some reasons for why they are good laners(so I can play to their strengths), that would be great, thanks.

A melee Troll Warlord has a good lane presence and if you're getting lots harass you could always go range. Hes basically easy, you just need to know how to toggle berserkers rage which really isnt that hard to master

I'd say Slark has quite a good laning presence and early killing potential, also, he doesn't need that much farm to start ganking.

Slardar has a stun and is tanky, not a hard carry however.

Ember Spirit has a two-man disable and can dish out lots of magical damage early on.

In my opinion Lifestealer has also good laning presence with a huge slow.

Legion Commander - Q is massive AoE nuke + movement speed boost, the more targets you hit the more damage you deal, so it's especially good against pub dual lanes. W is heal + purge + attack speed boost, making anyone on your lane hard to kill. E is passive that allows you to get some gold from woods if you need too. Ultimate forces enemy to fight with you for 5.5 seconds, and if some1 dies, the survivor gets +18 permament attack damage. What you want to do with this hero is just get fast Power Treads + Blink Dagger ( Bottle if on mid) and start getting damage, building some HP/armor items at same time. Ideally you don't need to get ANY damage items, because all your damage comes from ultimate. My fav build is Power Treads > Blink Dagger > Black King Bar > Assault Cuirass > Eye of Skadi > Heart of Tarrasque > Boots of Travel.

The "best" is always Situational, but based on this, and assuming you're talking about Farming the Safe Lane 2 vs 2, it sounds like you want something like Phantom Assassin.

A Stout Shield -> Poor Man's Shield + 1 point in Blur at lvl2/4 will let you Lane easily enough and Stifling Dagger gives you a good tool for Harrassing and securing Farm.

Lifestealer and Doom Bringer are good alternatives, but I think you'll prefer PA the best to start out with.

I'd go Ember Spirit or Troll Warlord if you're looking to harass enemies. For good farming and hero killing capabilities you might look into Treant Protector and Broodmother, although they're a bit harder to use. Anti-Mage also comes to mind with Lifestealer since they can turn enemy stats against them.

Maybe Kunkka? His Tidebringer for easy harass in the lane, he has a very nice animation so last hitting is fairly easy. His ult and Torrent are a little hard to position, but they deal nice damage and both stun.

Edit: His primary attribute is strength also, so he can soak up a lot of hits.

Lifestealer and bristleback are 2 carries that have strong laning presence and are good in the 2-1-2 laning setup in lower level pubs.

Faceless Void is pretty good laning. Just have time walk lvl 1. Level up Time walk and backtrack.

He actually has some insane survivability.
