I really think that the thing we haven't quite realized is that heroes with movement speed and healing are critical and dominate and that's basically why they do.
Dragon knight can do the progressive boot arpproach AND the progressive drum approach AND fricken use a dagon because he can farm upgrade it so fast...
That is not why DK is good.
DK's stun is never maxed first. Ever.
Seriously though, try watching competetive matches on joindota or something- you might just learn a thing or two. Or maybe ****loads of things that you thought were good might be NOT good, you know?
I just want to add that, it might be obvious that heroes who have MS and Life Regen abilities tend to dominate, I think it should also be coupled with the items that they use...
Like, I was trying to figure out which items in the game have defensive components but build to make something offensive in the end.
And the list is...
-Medallion of Courage
-Blade Mail
-Veil of Discord
-Manta Style
---(10% MS = Offensive and Defensive)
---(Illusions = Offensive and Defensive)
-Assault Cuirass
-Ring of Aquila (kind of)
-Shivas Guard
-Vladamir's offering
Like, when I combine the effects of these items on a character like dragon knight, it seems to work quite well. Like I'll get a Veil of Discord early and if I do the suggested build on this thread of dragon blood, then 2 in to breathe fire maxing out breathe fire asap... I can go to the front of my team, take hits better with veil, cast lower resist on enemy team, spirt fire, and it all works quite well...
Let's say I also had a medallion... i could cast that in team fights as well.
Just the combination of all these things that make such a difference.
Ok, that list sounds good, especially the BKB and the Dominator since bkb and satanic would seem to be uber tanking from a distance...
I suppose that the helm of iron will in to dominator makes sense...
I guess it all depends on whether you can run guys down in the dragon form or not.
BKB isn't composed of defensive items which I'm trying to emphasize here for progressive survival....
He doesn't have any sort of natural crit though, which probably means that any significant leach would happen only until level 2 dragon, if the spash leaches.
-I'm not sure if the approach you are talking about with the BKB can be good enough for long enough to make him a tank for team battles. I suppose the approach I am talking about is more reliable.
The first 3 sentences made me actually think that Kyfoid might actually be saying something with sense here. It was so close...
See, you can't just expect a hero to have a natural crit, high life regen, extra movespeed, and all the other things that are gamebreaking in your sense.
Defense is not everything. BKB is a really good item, giving (particularly to DK) an active that lets him shake off most disables, which everyone hates to get hit by. They say offense is the best defense for a reason, and that's because you don't need to defend if you can overpower your enemy quicker than he can do that to you. Hence, getting all defensive items isn't good.
DK is built tanky by nature. Hence, he gets lifesteal, he gets an armlet, he gets that bkb, and occasionally pros gt shadow blade on him specifically when he goes mid because it just works well with the cleave, and the extra AS and DPS is good (not for the escape) all of which makes him harder to kill... while increasing his attack potential with each item. So for BKB, he gets around 200 health AND 34 damage, along with that active. Great stuff, if you ask me.
What do you mean by "significant leach"? And why does it happen until level 2 but does not in level 3? Why can your side be more reliable than the approach I said?
