Ok then, well, my best idea for magnus is to purely get his shock wave and empower at start...

Start with one of the items for soul ring and it's recipe

Then get soul ring

Spam the hell out of creeps, there will always be enough mana left over for empower...

get MoM asap...

from a disstance,

when creeps come in use MoM to clean up...

Get boots at this point I guess...

Now that you can get money... what do you get?

Force staff to push enemies down a lane... then turn around and bully them down the lane with charge?

Cleave makes this hero all too op. With a Battle Fury and Empower stack you can easily 5v1 an enemy team as has already been stated. The Dagon is absolutely worthless on Magnus. There are of course many ways to build him. You seem to be trying to turn Magnus into a 5 man ganker of some sort. The Dagon only does damage to one person. You could instead build a Battle Fury (if you're trying to build a carry Magnus that is). The Battle Fury has a 35% cleave which stacks with your Empower. This adds up to a massive 105 extra damage and 85% cleave. If you land a 5 man RP you will effectively deal near 400% of your original damage spread out to the ENTIRE enemy team. Two entire RP's on 5 people would give you enough time to kill their ENTIRE team not to mention the extra damage and cleave you can give to any other melee heroes such as a Sven who already has cleave to stack with as well!

A bit of Math:
Some people may be confused about how Magnus and his cleave damage work. This is my assumption as to how: His original damage will be represented by x and any other damage from items will be represented by y. I am going to make the assumption that you have built a Battle Fury and add that into his cleave damage. (To my knowledge Battle Fury will stack with Empower thus dealing 85% cleave damage. Dendi stacked cleave with 5 bfury's on Ursa in a video?)
The equation would be something like this: x+y*.85=Total Damage Cleaved.
This damage is apparently not pure, however, it does not get modified by armor.
Hope this helped!

I have to admit, I've never tried a battle fury on him, but because I focus so much on getting mana for regen, it just seems pointless.

Anyways, I find myself coming to the conclusion that this guy needs

Vengaurd
Hood of Defiance
Mask of madness
Soul ring

Blade mail
Medallion?

Or could take out the MoM and get satanic later so that you can get a veil of discord first.

Mask seems to work better then battle fury for leveling up, better initially that is.

The vengaurd and HOD keep him alive while MoM levels him.

Any mana casts seem like that have to come from the soul ring...

He doesn't need to be "kept alive". He is a hero that does everything he needs to do while the enemy is stunned by his ultimate.

Listen. Just go bottle, get arcane boots, rush blink dagger. BOOM. You just won teamfights.

Ok guys/atlas

I've finally come to a conclusion about this character and yall may think it's dumb but it's 100% fact.

Shockwave is a farming tool for later game and should actually be maxed out LAST.

This is because I realized that when trying to fight against other intel nukers, his nukes don't even compare damage wise...

His only real strengths are team cleave, slow effect from skewer, and stun.

It's so obvious that you want to max out skewer and empower because he has a naturally fast run walk...

Which means he can hunt guys down...

but the first priority is obviously to max out empower and collect raw damage items or strength until you are farming satisfactorily....

You can't even really pressure intelligence gankers/nukers until you can stay alive.... Which is why you might as well start with a HOD right off the bat.

Look that Shockwave when laning is extremly powerful when you can hit with every use, and lvling it up doesn't increase it mana cost. At lvl 7 you can easily take 2/3 of enemies hp before they even notice that and if they stil feel like bosses trying to farm something on that lane you can just ult them and finish both. Or when duo lane maxing out Shockwave make kills just more easier.

It's actually a garbage skill used later for merely AIDING farming as he needs raw damage + cleave for last hits.

Not mana regen because he needs all the mana he can to empower himself and ally.

You're not getting it, he is item independent. Literally all you need is Arcane Boots and Blink Dagger, that's why he's picked as a suicide laner, a 300 damage line-nuke also clears half the HP of an entire wave and falls off later, its supposed to be used early game.
