One of my goals on dota 2 is making sure that my inventory is stuffed with as many elite items as possible regardless having items with active or passive effects.
Therefore, let's say I am ..... magnus, for example....
Would I not be right in saying that before it is in my interesting to fill up inventory slots with hyper stones, I should at least first get a demon edge?
I saw that his damage starts out at 50-60 at level 1...
A hyper stone, even though it costs 300 less gold enhances attack speed by 55, and I translate that as 55% since that is the best that i can understand the formula.
Clearly in this case the demon edge adds more DPS
But at level 15 I do 88-100 base damage...
55% of that is about the same as demon edge but 300 less gold at that point...
So should I max out attack speed with hyper stones after 1 demon edge? Won't the hyper stone enhance the DPS % by counting the Demon Edge as base damage? Or is that bonus damage?
Finally, you might wonder why I would choose a demon edge or hyper stone over a reaver in the first place...
A Reaver costs 3200, so clearly more... sure I might make satanic but is my character with his skills really designed to fulfill a tank role in any sort of way?
Maybe I would rather have the highly offensive output to function best with 25% life leach...
Is having that life very vital? Is it vital because I'm a melee hero? Is it vital because I got to get in close to use my ulti?
Just some things to think about, but first I would like people to acknowledge that this is a good, significant, and complex question.
Thanks.
I guess sacred relics should be considered as well?
I mean it just seems like the general rule of thumb should be.... if you can get away with using your skills satisfactorily with soul ring, then why not make the basic attack damage as high out put right off the bat...
You don't build items to have max inventory in the sense you've put it, this isn't a MMORPG where you try to get as best of items in each slot. You build what you need to win that situation you're in, i.e: is someone doing a lot of right-click damage? You then buy items to help reduce that damage or survive as long as possible, whether it's a Ghost Scepter or Platemail.
I don't want to do the math but your overall damage with att.spd scales better as you get more att.dmg, this also applies vice-versa.
% increases are additive
EDIT:
In essence any hero can carry but each hero excels at doing something. Magnus is a fantastic initiator since his skillset allows him to be so. You get enough regen with either a Bottle+ Arcane Boots or Soul Ring+ Power Treads then you save up for Blink Dagger. You take those opportunities where there are some heroes grouped up, blink in and Reverse Polarity, follow up with Skewer or Shockwave, you've done more than enough for your team than if you went for a weird 5 stack Hyperstone and 1 Demon Edge.
Don't fill your inventory with items that only give stats. Upgrade them. I.E. Your goal is not hyperstone, but AC; not Demon Edge, but Daedulus, etc.
As to which items you should pick, it becomes more apparent when you think like the above. Stats like dmg or atk speed can always be used, but stuff like crits and armor reduction are easier to understnad when to get.
I think the general rule of thumb has now become; avoid Kyfoid's threads, he never makes any sense.
So true :D
"When game is going full ******, you can only go with it. If you start going against it, if you start going half ******, you´re ****ing done for. When Aloha decides to go middle rubick you let him, and you start buying orb of venom on invoker. That's how dota works" -n0tail
