Just a thought (completely untested) - but if you have nothing your mana pool...Nyx can't Mana Burn it to hurt you...right? Is it worth it as an intel hero who ends up laning against him just emptying your mana mool ASAP (carapace allowing) with harassment spells so he can't hurt you with it?

I know it leaves you potentially vulnerable without the ability to cast...but then against that normally happens anyway once he burns his way through your mana...?

I agree with you, wasting your mana by using spells to damage Nyx Assassin is better than just waiting for him to mana burn you. Also, he won't have any mana to burn so you won't get damaged.

Imo,consider buying a Soul Ring against him,so you can have enough mana to cast your nuke when needed(especially if its a stun/slow).

I used to do that as mid lane Pugna, and usually it wrecks any mid, even Pudge or Night Stalker, that are known to deal easy with squishy heroes.Because the 5.5 sec cd Nether Blast that also pushes down towers is just too good not to spam.Same thing against Nyx,you need the mana to take him down early,no matter the carapace,it will stun only for 0.6-1.2 seconds if its level 2.

Biggest enemy of Nyx are the heroes that he can't burst down without a friend,or heroes that he can't manaburn easy, and send them back to the fountain(prime example of this: Undying with Soul Ring). If he manaburns, Decay him back (make sure its not maxed out, costs a **** ton of mana and it would get burned anyway, then heal yourself with Soul Rip.

I see your logic Wulfstan, but wouldn't buying a Soul ring be more a detriment then a help in this case? First it bleeds your health away, making an easier job for Nyx. And second you are replenishing your mana supply allowing the chance for a deadlier Mana Burn.

I guess it would depend on which hero got the drop on the other first, and when to pop the soul ring.

Soul Ring is a good idea. Use it after he burns you, so that you know it's on CD.
The same ting can be said about MP boots.

MP boots just make your pool larger, and their cooldown is too long.Even with a level 1 Mana Burn he can cast it twice as it has a 25 sec CD-50 if cast twice and Arcane Boots has 55.You would get burned slower, but to a degree that you wouldn't have mana to even activate the Arcane Boots.

This works extremly well in the laning phrase. After Nyx hits level 6,you won't really have time to react to his combo to pop Soul Ring and fight back.Honestly, you should not if you were comboed, unless you have a teammate nearby.

Because most Nyxes(is this a word?)will pop Spiked Carapace after using their combo, knowing that people like Sven or Chaos Knight would try to stun to escape, but it would just result in suicide. If you were comboed and you are alive, just walk away.He can't do anything. This is especially true for the tanky supports: Tidehunter, Ogre Magi, Jakiro, Omniknight(another decent example, only 2 ones that can retaliate to Spiked Carapace due to Repel, the other one being Lifestealer with Rage but he has no nukes)

The point is that Soul Ring is a really good investment on any nuke dependent hero, because you get regenerated anyway. You sacrifice 150 HP for 150 MP,and you have a 3+ HP regen, counting the base one, make it 4.Now the soul ring CD is 25.4x25=100.So you barely lose 50 HP.

That is what makes it so good on mid heroes, Zeus and Pugna can desintegrate almost any mid by just having Soul Ring and a Bottle to sustain it.

You counter Nyx as an intelligence hero by drafting better.
My lone druid starting items are 12 Iron wood branches, 6 for the hero and 6 for the bear. Even if the bear does not get stats more twigs are OP on any hero.

U forgot Jugg spin. But yeah the soul ring thought is interesting...however remember that nyx can adapt...if he sees you get a soul ring its very easy to get points in carapace instead of mana burn earlier on. And his true damage burst comes from the stun...every time you pop soul ring all he has to do to counter your spam is carapace and stun for alot of damage on you....in fact i feel like the soul ring would lose its effectiveness vs a nyx the second he gets 3 lvls in stun. If you honestly want to counter nyx as a support hero...stay in xp range...pugna is a decent pick because his nether ward can punish for casting abilities...i would say spam ur spells to last hit rather than to purely harass...of course try to do both every time you cast. and oh yeah SENTRY WARDS....cheap and effective at keeping your *** alive haha. if he goes invis...drop one to see if hes in your lane, and if he is sit by tower...if not call miss and farm. if you can stay alive long enough and avoid him long enough to get say a bloodstone...then nyx suddenly becomes much much less of a threat to you. also consider picking up a cloak...55% magic resistance early on means alot of damage could be negated..and this builds easily into a hood of defiance later on and a pipe of insight...wont help much vs the nyx ult..but all his other nukes including dagon are drastically reduced in effectiveness.
