At level 4, Lycan's Howl gives 58 damage to all heroes and 20 damage to all controlled non-hero units. This would double the damage of spiderlings and triple the damage on spiderites. That's insane. Thoughts?
Yeah this is a combo not many players know and even less use. Throw in an Enigma for ez Eidolon damage and some Meepo clones for maximum Howl abusage.
Wait....Fedorable needs to see this! This is perfect!
It works. It's actually really strong and it has been used in competitive. Spiderlings melt towers with Howl and it's a great combo if you just want to push like hell and go high ground before the 20 minute mark (well that's what you always want to do with Brood, but having a Lycan helps).
There are a few small downsides. First, it requires perfect coordination with the Lycan player (he has to press it when you screm "howl pls" in mic), and even then it get screwed by glyph. There are a lot of glyphs right now, so it delays the push, still doesn't make it bad though. Also, other small downside, it requires Howl to be level 4 to be effective, at lower level it's really weak. The standard Lycan build is to max Howl last. Not that there's anything wrong with leaving Feral Impulse at level 1 and maxing Howl second, it's actually a perfectly fine build, you just have to be clear that your Lycan player goes for this build. Because it's a synergy for early game, your Lycan is just not going to be level 14 when you need it.
It's a strong combo. It does require coordination, and like Hamster said, needs the Lycan to level Howl earlier as summoned units lose their luster quickly.
However, the weakness is likely that anyone with strong AOE (Leshrac, SK, Tumblrsaw) will likely limit the effectiveness of this strat, since Spiders die. A safer strategy in a pub would probably be to draft like an Abaddon or a Troll Warlord to easily take towers after fights are won.
Well it's always the same thing, if heroes are massing in Brood's lane then Lycan needs to push other lanes to make space, and if it's just a solo hero with AOE trying to counterpush Brood, he gets orchided and killed in 2 seconds with Howl. Actually even in this respect they synergize really well. If the enemy team is massing on the Brood then they'll soon find themselves without T1 and T2 towers :)
Also, Brood makes insane space while Lycan is doing Rosh at the ~8 minute mark.
