Hugh the Peasant

Hero Introduction

Hi guys, been quite a while! Let's continue where we left off and get on with the spawnfest?

This hero is one of my most interesting ideas (not the most balanced though, if you're okay with it). See, this hero was made for the FoC theme "a hero that is useless without other heroes" (kinda like Io). So, I decided to make a Peasant. Yep, peasant, farmer, basically someone who plants seeds.

The whole idea is planting seeds on cultivated seeds for lane sustain, and later in game for other utilities. This hero is made to be an offlaner because he need a lot of levels ASAP, due to the time the seeds require to grow. Plant Seed without his ultimate becomes free lane sustain, Plowing Bull becomes last hitting / escape skill, while Scarecrow changes the Field into some kind of safe zone where he is almost impossible to kill. As solo offlaner, he is still really useful for the rest of the team because he can send the items he planted (called Harvest) through the Trading Post.

Well, the hero is quite complex, so just take a look and comment! Don't hesitate to ask me questions as well. Oh, btw please don't be so hard on the balancing department, this hero is not too balanced lol

Lore

Ostarion the wretched king, that’s what his subjects call him. His obsession on immortality has taken a great toll on his kingdom, sapping away every bit of resource for his own selfish ambition, leaving his subjects to live on poverty and great troubles. However, none of his subjects dare to fight back, for the monstrous power of their king is out of their comprehension.

One day, a simple peasant grows tired of it all. He decided to call up arms against the wretched king, calling every other soul tired of his tyranny. To his fear, none found courage to fight to death with him. Desperate, Hugh decided to go on a suicide attack by himself, prepared to die for a chance of revenge.

But, the night Hugh set out to fight the wretched king, an unknown deity came to Hugh and gave him a mysterious seed, said to contain power beyond mortal’s capability. Although sceptical, Hugh decided to follow the deity’s instructions, to wait for a few years in an attempt to understand the seeds’ powers. Until the day Mad Moon crumbled down. Hugh decided that this great war is the best shot he would ever had. Setting out with none but the seeds, his trusty bull, and some cursed scarecrows, the story of Hugh the Peasant started.

Skills

[D] Cultivate Field: The Peasant cultivates a field to make his seeds capable of growing. This skill is an inbound target area skill that creates 200 x 200 points square of Field after 3 seconds channel time of melee range without MP or cool down. The field can be expanded by overlapping additional Fields, and will be counted as a single field. There is no maximum number of Fields in the map.

[F] Trading Post: Hugh constructs a trading post with 400 radius after 10 seconds cast time of melee range, this post can hold up to 4 Harvests from his skills. Each post has Transport Harvests and Dismantle Post. There can only be a maximum of 3 posts in the map, and additional one cannot be made until at least one of the posts has been dismantled. Each post requires 10 hits to destroy, grants 200 bounty, and all Harvests in its inventory will be dropped if destroyed without using Dismantle Post.

Trading Post Skills

[Q] Plant Seed: Hugh plants the divine seeds he received from the deity, causing an extraordinary plant to grow. This skill plants current active aspect of the seed based on Percipience toggle, and after certain duration will grow into Harvest. The Harvest requires an item slot and multiple copies require multiple slot. If Percipience has not yet been learned, the default Harvest will be Miracle Fruit, capable of healing target’s HP and MP over time. Miracle Fruit is the only toggle of Percipience which effect increases as this skill is leveled. This skill also passively increases Hugh’s HP regeneration, can only be used on a field and occupies 150 radius of Field that cannot overlap with other seeds.

- 90 HP and 60 MP healed, 2 extra points of HP regeneration.
- 160 HP and 90 MP healed, 3 extra points of HP regeneration.
- 230 HP and 120 MP healed, 4 extra points of HP regeneration.
- 300 HP and 150 MP healed, 5 extra points of HP regeneration.

Type: Target Area
Affect: None

MP Cost: 80
Cool Down: 15 seconds
Heal Duration: 6 seconds
Cast Range: Melee
Growth Time: 30 seconds

Hugh obediently follows the order and plants the divine seeds.

[W] Scarecrow: The Peasant puts up a cursed scarecrow on his field, greatly weakening any trespasser. This skill can only be used on a Field, and all enemy heroes that stand within the field will receive greatly reduced movement speed and base damage as well as increased MP cost until they leave the area of the Field. Additionally, any Field with a scarecrow will reveal invisible units on the area. Scarecrow has 5 points of armor, and will not be attacked by creeps or towers. Lasts until destroyed, but doesn’t stack with it’s own effect.

- 500 HP, 40% speed and base damage reduction, 50 extra MP cost
- 600 HP, 50% speed and base damage reduction, 75 extra MP cost
- 700 HP, 60% speed and base damage reduction, 100 extra MP cost
- 800 HP, 70% speed and base damage reduction, 125 extra MP cost

Type: Target Point
Affect: Enemy Heroes
Pierces Spell Immunity: No

MP Cost: 100
Cool Down: 60 seconds
Bounty: 100 gold

Despite being a scarecrow, a curse laid on it is really strong.

[E] Summon Plowing Bull: The Peasant calls on his trusty plowing bull, capable of nurturing his plants and helping him in the battleground. This skill summons a bull with 1500 HP and 4 inventory slots exclusive for Harvests. The bull has two skills, Plow and Charge. Levelling this skill will passively increase the level of the bull’s skills in addition to increasing its damage and armor. Can only attack if within 2000 range from Hugh.

- 32-36 base damage, 5 armor
- 40-44 base damage, 6 armor
- 48-52 base damage, 7 armor
- 56-60 base damage, 8 armor

Type: No Target
Affect: None
MP Cost: 200
Cool Down: 240 seconds
Bounty: 300 gold
Base Speed: 360
BAT: 2.0

The only thing Hugh treasures, now accompanies him on the battlefield.

Plowing Bull Skills

[R] Percipience: Hugh’s percipience of the divine seeds grow greatly that he could pull out different aspects of the seed. This skill is a toggle skill that allows him to change what Harvest he will get from Plant Seed.

- Allow toggling to Gaia Beanstalk
- Allow toggling to Purgatory Rosevine
- Allow toggling to Divine Bagplant

Type: Toggle
Affects: Self

The divine seeds contain much, much more potentials than what meets the eye.

Gaia Beanstalk: When this item is used, the target will receive an effect for 20 seconds on the target’s attacks that reduce the movement by 8% of any units attacked by the target. This effect stacks fully with itself and any orb modifier, lasts for 4 seconds, but is refreshed with each attack. Requires 350 points radius of Field and 50 seconds to grow.

Purgatory Rosevine: When this item is used, the target will receive an effect for 10 seconds that reflects 20% of damage taken from any source back to the sources before reduction. Requires 500 points radius of Field and 100 seconds to grow.

Divine Bagplant: When this item is used, grants the target an additional slot of inventory. This effect does not stack with itself. Requires 900 points radius of Field and 300 seconds to grow.

Granting extra inventory slots to any hero is a BIG NO NO. Other than that, looks decent.

Hi Wulfy, thanks for commenting :D

I also thought that adding an inventory slot (doesn't stack with itself) is such a strong effect, probably the single sole reason for this hero to be drafted considering how useless he is in team fights or in the game as general. That's why I made it that this effect requires level 16, and an additional 5 minutes to grant to just one hero, a really long in-game time.

That's my defense on this effect, but if you still don't find it acceptable what do you think I should change it to?

Care to comment on the other stuffs?

It's incredibly strong on hard carries. Spectre, Void, Medusa, Troll Warlord suddenly get even better than they already were. His zoning is decent thanks to the bull and scarecrow, so he ain't totally useless like you put it.

My suggestion for his ultimate? Change that divine bsgplant with another pretty name, say holy sumflower or something. Upon consumation, grants + 15 to all stats to the entire team for 60 seconds, with a cooldown of 120. Aghs upgrade should be halves the stats granted, but makes the effect permanent with a slightly increased cooldown. (150 maybe, again numbers can be tweaked)
