I wanted to try this long time ago. Grid customization allows you to change the position of the icons of the heroes while picking phase in All Pick. You have to click Ctrl to set to this view, right after you enter the picking screen.

By default, heroes are set into 3 groups: Strenght, Agility and Intelligence. Then, each of those groups are divided into 2: Radiant and Dire. Apart from that, their default position seems random to me. There is no alphabetical or role order (well, it would be hard anyway).

They are actually added on the end of the list by the time they were released in the Dota 2 client. That order isn't very helpful. At least to me.

This is how I customized my grid:

I just noticed that Dragon Knight is on Intelligence side, and Meepo on the Strenght side. I will change that ASAP.

My order is:
  • Supports (by that I mean heroes that I rather play support more than carry - like Gyrocopter or Night Stalker).
  • Offlaners and junglers ( Oracle is there because I didn't want to break the Intelligence support 3 columns aesthetics). Perhaps I should move Slark rather to offlaners.
  • Carries (I have no carries on Intelligence, apparently). Perhaps I should move Slark rather to offlaners.
  • Middle heroes

On the far right there are 9 heroes, that I just don't play (just as Meepo and Earth Spirit).

What do you think about that? Can you post your Grid if you have changed it?

Just in case: I don't think Wraith King must be a carry in each game if he is on my Carry column. I found that this order gives me better view on things. This should be individual, pls no haterino.

I would like to encourage you to do one, if you haven't done it yet.

Tip: Enter the lobby without bots. No point in doing it while playing online game. No stress.

I have been playing with that grid customization for some time - firstly, I just minimkised icons of heroes I don't play, tossed them to the edges of screen, and put the rest in center divited into supports, mids, carries etc, with Kunkka as the fat-*** hero galaxy cetnre. Then I picked 10 heroes for each role I know/would like to learn and put them in centre. Then I decided **** this, and just reset the grid, opened my dotobuff profile, and changed portait sizes respectively to the amount of games I have with the hero so my hero pool could still be seen easily while not denying me the possibility to quickly pick up a hero not from my pool I felt like playing.

And then I started instarandoming every game so I don't need that **** anymore.

I've done a basic template where I split the heroes into the following 'blocks':

- Safe Lane
- Mid Lane
- Offlane
- Supports
- Jungler

Within each of these (except for Jungler where I only have Chen, Enchantress and Enigma) I have used the top half of each block for melee, and the bottom half for Ranged.

I intend to optimise it further by breaking them down into groups based on cc lockdown capabilities for supports, how much farm a particular carry requires before they become effective, etc.

I used the following web page for my grid (it's current as of 6.84b): http://devilesk.com/dota2/apps/layout-editor/

Shameless bump.

I feel like this thread needs more attention. I posted it in the inappropriate hour and then it was lost among other posts (I am not mocking them, hell no!).

More dotoforo grids, pls? :)

This seems rather handy Erca, I don't have the grid customized like that, but I would like to (actually, I don't know how to)
So.... How do you actually do that? Sorry for being so obscure lol

  • Select the "Play" tab on the top of the screen.
  • Go to "Create Lobby".
  • Edit the game so that there are no bots and set to All Pick (should be set to that mode by default).
  • Get into one team.
  • When you can pick heroes, click CTRL.
  • On the bottom right there is option: "Customize Grid" (look at the picture below).
  • Then just move icons around. Using mouse scroll will make them bigger or smaller.
