Questions regarding support heroes

Another little question guys - can anyone name some heroes who are good as #5 supports? I myself tried doing that with Tidehunter and Wraith King, and lets just say it didn't go very well... On the other hand CM, Dazzle and Warlock seemed to be slightly more effective in that role.
So which heroes in particular can operate with next to no farm?

Lich is good.
Shadow Demon is also good.
Keeper of the Light is also very good.

Item independent supports : Lich, Keeper of the Light, Dazzle, Rubick, Vengeful Spirit, Oracle, Disruptor

But to be honest, there's no such thing as a #5 support in pubs. Play the first 15 minutes of the game as a #5, play the rest of the game as a #2 and farm the items you need while you're buying wards. That's supporting in pubs for you...since your safe lane carry and mid are horrible feeders anyways and you need to make up for them being useless, so go get that blink/BKB/Aghs on your maiden and your Aghs/refresher on your Warlock :)

The distinctive lack of Mask of Madness is concerning. Mad dazzle best Dazzle.

I'd actually argue that Rubick is more a #4 than a #5.
Disruptor also scales well with items.

Scaling well with items and being item-independent is different. Rubick or Disruptor are definitely really good with a Blink Dagger and an Aghanim's Scepter, but they don't NEED blink or aghs to be effective. They can have arcane boots as only item 60 minutes into the game and still have some pretty legit game impact.
Crystal Maiden can be the ward ***** all game and have zero items, or she can get to the point where she's hesitating between Scythe of Vyse and Refresher Orb as her 6th slot item. But she's played as a hard support because even without farm, she can land good ultimates without dying by staying in the trees.
It's only when a hero requires specific items or levels to be effective that you start moving into the greed territory :)

Personally love Witch doctor. Good stun, good heal, good DOT, and amazing team fight ability. all he needs s a Euls, and boom, game almost always won with good plays
