Finally reached 5k MMR and my "Story line"

Yeah, i did a game last night where i was playing with a "3.8k" Witch Doctor and i was (and am) 3.1k on Lion. The With Doctor sat in lane, didn't buy anything after an initial set of Sentry wards (and an additional courier...) despite us being against a Clinkz. So i was left with so little farm, i got a decent timing on my Tranquill boots because our lane went OK and i got a couple of ganks, but after that it was roaming to ward, getting picked off by the Clinkz, buying wards, sentries, dusts, smokes... I basically couldn't play my hero. I sat back and the Clinkz waited for me! He just had my number :( Annoying git.
Luckily the fights were actually going OK on the whole. I got maybe a spell off, maybe, and our Troll Warlord cleaned up and got fat. When we could afford to carry a gem the game turned for me rapidly. Got a Ghost Scepter and then finally my Blink Dagger. Ended the game with awful stats because i was always dying first in fights, but we won! So that's the most important thing.

But that [{Witch Doctor]] was NEVER 3.8k. Luckily the other team often didn't cancel his Death Ward, otherwise he would have just been a creep.

#RantOver TL:DR MMR can be abused, and it isn't a perfect system. But it's the best we got.

Whelp my 5k was short lived, back down to 4.9k :\.

At least you know you can get there. Congrats on hitting the 5k previously. It's my eventual goal too, but I know I'm nowhere near the point where I'm good enough to even be 4k consistently yet.
