There are a handful of heroes that truely benefit from a mask of madness - I feel FV isn't one of them.
One you have a shield (stout or Vang - or both) and a good level of backtrack you can neutral creep anyway.
If you're getting harassed by an axe - then it's your teams fault. You base damage is huge, mask of madness changes nothing. Midas + treads will help your attack speed issues anyway.
I agree with MoM. If every lane is getting pressured (i.e you're being hounded by some Axe who refuses to give you any farm), you can start neutral creeping right away. You can jump not only between lanes, but the jungle as well, which gives you a lot more options to farm since your enemies can't lock down everywhere.
Mask of Madness is defiantly a core, at least early game for Faceless Void, simply because of its price. I try and farm it even before completing Power Treads because of the speed boost. Also it helps alot getting those Time Lock Bashes in.
