Sven can be a multi kill machine if you're careful early game. I reccomend playing easy lane with a non-melee. If the lane is not easily won, the power treads and Mask of Madness will allow jungling. The key to sven is building a skill an item stack that can be activated as you rush into battle. Sven's stun and cleave will allow him to bring enemy health down fast without sacrificing his own.
