Hey guys, here is my guide to the Skeleton King. I don't think he is that effective as a pure carry, that role is filled better by other heroes. He is however extremely useful as a semi-carry/tank. This is how i like to build him.
At the start grab either a Quelling Blade or a Stout Shield, depending on what you think you will need in lane. Don't be afraid to grab the other early if you need it.
Soul Ring will let you keep stunnin' fools. In addition, a quick soul ring right before you die will always give you enough mana to ult unless you get manaburned like crazy.
Force Staff helps with your positioning and can help out allies/screw enemies in a pinch. Throwing a stun and then immediately forcing yourself at them will let you get another auto attack or two in before they scurry off.
I like Power Treads but Phase Boots can be useful for the move speed. Power treads are amazing imo though because of 2 reasons. The attack speed, which you cant really get more of until AC and the ability to toggle to int. With your tiny mana pool toggling can make a huge difference for getting another stun/ult.
Armlet of Mordiggian is absolutely required, the stats it gives for the price are incredible. In addition, you can save your life with fancy armlet toggling and your lifesteal helps counteract the health drain.
Heart of Tarrasque and Assault Cuirass really round out your tanking/damaging core, and should be picked up in the majority of cases.
While you COULD grab a Desolator/ Radiance/ Monkey King Bar at the end of your build, I would recommend something more supportive. As a Skeleton King, people are going to leave you alone. But if you get in a 1v5 fight, you will still lose even with full dps items. Therefore I recommend getting items that help your team help you. A Heaven's Halberd is a great item for shutting down carries and keeping your team alive, same with Pipe of Insight and casters. You could even grab an Urn of Shadows or Drum of Endurance to help out your squad. nobody is going to focus you so you your team should always have these items to help out.
Max stun ASAP. Not many heroes get a 300 damage nuke/stun, take advantage of it. Getting stats at 2 and 4 will give you enough mana to cast more than 1 stun without going oom, as well as giving more hp, damage, and a little armor. Getting your crit or lifesteal is a bad idea here because they are both based off your damage, and early game you don't deal any damage, so those skills suck. Grab your ult whenever you can and then max crit and finally lifesteal.
If you are going to be spending a lot of time in the jungle to farm grab a level of lifesteal at 8 or 9, but otherwise the skill build shouldn't be messed with.
That's it for this guide, please give me any kind of constructive feedback you can to improve the guide and go crush some kids!
