You think Shotgun Morphling is cool? Think again.
Lion takes the throne for the term shotgun.
This build requires fast levels and farm, Mid will give Lion the exp he needs, then he can farm heroes with
Finger of Death just like
Legion Commander do with
Duel.
The only cool thing that happens to Lion is the buff to his ultimate and that cool thing makes him a very popular hero in this patch.
Finger of Death gets stronger every time you kill somebody with it, basically if you finger someone and he dies under 3 seconds after getting hit, FoD get buffed. So
Lion basically just became AP carry of Dota if we borrow LoL terms.
Other skills are pretty much the same as previous patches and no huge changes needed for them.
Mana Drain should be leveled according to your needs, not because "the guide say so".
Mana Drain level one is so weak, but spending four points early-mid is almost always too much for
Lion.
Most of the time in mid game, level 2 or 3 Mana Drain is enough, and thus level 2 or 3 on
Hex brings more to the table. Adjust
Hex and
Mana Drain to the situation.
Start with Null Talisman and one
Iron Branch. Ask for some
Tango (Shared) from your allies. If you don't get one from them, I'm surprised people even give you mid since you play as
Lion. Either way, if you don't get them it's fine.
Go to mid like a boss.
Ferry Healing Salve after your team get
Bounty Runes.
Get your second Null Talisman ASAP, it will help you with harass and last hits, ferry more
Healing Salves if you need them.
Get Boots of Speed. From here, you can either buy
Bottle and/or naked
Magic Stick if you are spell slinging with the enemy in mid. If your enemy is rather weak in terms of spell power, you are most likely able to get away from getting
Bottle in the first place and just get
Magic Stick.
Upgrade Boots to Power Treads and set it to Int.
Phase Boots is also a cool alternative, but
Power Treads gives physical damage for right clicking when enemies are stunned and amplifies spell damage when set to Int.
Getting Kaya or
Blink Dagger first depends on what you need. If your team needs a follow up stun or you need to be the one setting up, you may need
Blink Dagger first.
Kaya is for pure damage. Just don't get
Aghanim's Scepter first.
Getting Aghanim's Scepter pretty much makes
Lion a very powerful ganker and super crazy fast creep clearer, it also makes him very dangerous when enemies are clustered.
By the time you get Aghanim's Scepter, the game most likely already nearly end, but if the game extends longer, you can upgrade
Kaya to
Yasha and Kaya for more cost reductions and spell damage (MS bonus is never bad either).
At level 10, pick +90 damage. Why? Because what are you doing when the enemy is stunned and hexed by you? That's right, you right click them. More damage to them and more assurance that they will be dead with Finger of Death. More right click damage also means easier farming. +75 Cast range is just meh.
At Level 15, More Finger of Death damage of course. More damage for your Ult. When combined with
Aghanim's Scepter it's very scary.
At Level 20, More health is great. More Mana Drain is great as well. But Health is generally better because you can spam delete illusions with
Hex] AoE talent.
At level 25, Hex AoE is very powerful because it's essentially a ranged stun without cast time and cannot be blocked by
Linken's Sphere.
