I am Riki - Introduction

Hi! This is my very first guide and I'm really sorry if I have a lot of mistake. I'm not a professional DotA player, nor a high MMR player. I'm just an ordinary guy who loves to use Riki as my favorite "Carry" hero. So, I'm gonna be quick here. There's several points that you should keep in mind when reading this guide:

1. I want to thank you all for sparing your time reading this guide.
2. English is not my mother language, so I'm really sorry if my English's sucks.
3. The reason why I decided to make this guide because my hatred of some people who underestimate Riki as a "Baby" hero when actually, they even CAN'T use it well.
4. I HATE MoM (MASK OF MADNESS) ON RIKI!

So without further do, let's go! Quickly, quickly!

P.S: This is not a guide for a new player. This is more for a player who have a great killer instinct that lies deep in your heart! Yes, YOU!

They Got a Bargain When They Hired Me - How To Play Riki

When you play an amazing hero such as Riki, you need to be smart, brave, and have a great killing instinct. Here are some Tips and Tricks for you to step up your Riki to a whole new level.

Tips and Tricks:

+ In and Out, Be Invisible! Do not show your self in the lane. Last hitting, not hitting creeps. It's a huge different especially to avoid gank on your lane.

+ Stay Behind. Don't go raging and hitting like a mad man. Scout in front, make sure your enemies don't have any gems, dusts or sentries. Check their inventory before deciding to scout them. Let your allies lead the war. Open smoke, and get back to your invisible state. Wait for the right time to kill a dying enemies or a support which usually will appear later such as KotL, Invoker, Lion, and others.

+ Using Smoke Screen Does Not Stop Your Invisibility State. Help your friend by disabling enemies and don't be afraid to be seen.

+ Ask your allies to go for a clash while you get your core items.

+ Ask your allies to buy sentry to denies any of enemies sentries.

+ Watch out for Slardar, Bounty Hunter, and Zeus!

+ Positioning Is Important. Hit from behind. DO NOT ENCOUNTER YOUR ENEMIES FROM THE FRONT.

+ Use Your Killing Instinct. If you can kill it, DO IT!

I Didn't Want To Be Seen Like This - MoM Problems

Q: Why Do You Hate Mask Of Madness So Bad?
A: Here's the problem. My way of using Riki, which is In and Out of battle, stay in the shadows, and love to be invisible makes me hate using MoM. Here's why.

MoM gives you a life steal, which is good, and also a good amount of attack speed and movement speed. It's deadly as hell if combined with the Skull Basher. But even with those advantages, I still do not like it.

Although it gives you a life steal and a good attack and movement speed for a moment, it causes you to take EXTRA 30% damage. Got it? No? Well let me explain it further.

MoM causes you to take extra 30% damage which is not good for a low HP and low regeneration like Riki. If you want to kill an enemy, and somehow he gets some friends nearby, you'll take that extra 30% damage which is a really pain in the A$$. As Riki, you also don't want to be seen in the lane as good as you can. So, if you're thinking to regain your HP using the life steal, you're dead. Riki usually dead because your enemies see you, their bring their dusts, sentries, and with 2 stuns, you're dead already. Your job is to be invisible almost 24/7. And regaining your HP using MoM is not the solution.

Getting 2 Blade of Alatricty is better then MoM. Why?

1. Bonus Damage (Permanent)
2. Bonus Attack Speed (Permanent)
3. Bonus Backstab Damage (Permanent)
4. Bonus Armors (Permanent)

Disadvantages? NONE.

MoM Advantages:
1. Life steal (Permanent)
2. Bonus Attack Speed (Temporally)
3. Bonus Movement Speed (Temporally)

Disadvantages?
1. Take extra 30% Damage.
2. Your Bonus Attack and Movement Speed Are Temporally.

Q: But MoM + Skull Basher are UNSTOPPABLE!
A: Yes it's true, but before you get your very own lovely Skull Basher, you hardly get some kills with MoM. So think twice! :)

I hope you finally understand why I do not use Mask Of Madness.

Not For The Likes Of You.

My Cunning Grows - Skills Explanation

Q: Why level up only 1 level of Backstab in early game?
A: You don't have any good items to make that skill useful. We'll take an advantage of that skill later. Don't worry, I'm not stupid.

Q: Why bother leveling up Smoke Screen Early in the Game?
A: Riki often gets target by enemies. This will save your A$$, and also useful to get some kills. Level up your Smoke Screen wisely. Look for your enemies and suit it with your team styles.

Q: Why so much Blink Strike?
A: Last hitting with Blink Strike is a good thing to get some golds. Let your mana regeneration works. Save some mana, but do not make it full and useless. Leveling up a lot of Blink Strike early on makes your Blink Strike cool down decrease and it will helps you a lot when chasing or killing your enemies. And also, use it to Kill Steal. Yup, right. KILL STEAL my friend. Why? Because your team depends on you! Tell them you are a carry and you need every single kill as much as you can. BUT, make sure you win it or else get ready to get some verbal abuse ;)

Faster And Stronger!

Ooh, Shiny! - Items Explanation

Starting Items:

Q: Why you buy Slippers rather then Quelling blade or Wraith Band?
A: Because Slippers get you the most Agility boost and it works right away with your Backstab so you can deal a huge damage to the creeps and the enemy.

Q: Does Iron Branch is a must item?
A: Nope, but it's better to get a little stats boost at the beginning.

Mid Game Items:

Q: Where's Mask of Madness?
A: Riki DOES NOT need MoM. (Look at the specific chapter for this question)

Q: Why Diffusal Blade?
A: Because Diffusal Blade have a lot of benefits. It gives you a HUGE agility boost, which means, MORE damage, MORE attack speed, MORE armor, and the best of all, MORE Backstab damage. This item is your CORE item. You need this more then anything else. This can help you kill those nasty intelligence heroes by slowing them in your smoke and they'll be dead when they're out from your smoke. AND, it gives you more intelligence to increase your mana pool.

Q: Poor-man Shield?
A: Good damage blocker while maintaining your agility legit!

Q: Town Portal Scroll?
A: Made a Killing!

End Game Items:

[*] Grab Butterfly as soon as possible!
[*] Skull Basher for extra damage and a good combination with Smoke Screen.
[*] Sange and Yasha for decent boost movement speed, attack speed, damage, armor, and of course, durability.
[*] Crystalys to make your enemy cry.

Optional Items:

[*] Black King Bar - What's more annoying then an unstoppable Stealth Assassin?
[*] Desolator - Yes I know it does not stack with Diffusal, but you do not need the mana burn from Diffusal! Replace it with an armor piercing attack!
[*] Vladmir's Offerings - For those guys who try to look tough in front of you
[*] Hand of Midas - For those who get harassed 24/7 (P.S: Get a better team mate!)

Luxury Items:

If you reach here already, there's nothing to talk about.
Poof!

Coin For Me - Early Game

GET SOME GOLD!
Yes, go get a lot of gold.
Get Power Thread A.S.A.P (As Soon As Possible).
Because you got a Backstab early in Level 1, you can easily last hit enemy's creeps. But remember, you need to do a little positioning before you last hit your enemy's creeps. Make sure you're in the back of the enemy's creeps and have your timing ready.

Because of that positioning thing, you need to make sure you have a good lane support such as Silencer, Shadow Shaman, Skywrath, Lion, and more range allies that got stuns, disables, or harassers. This will make your enemy afraid to go last hitting. Then take this moment to get as much gold as you can.

If you can and you get a good lane support, go grab some kill!
Make sure you have your smoke ready to prevent the enemies from running away or use some skills to run such as stuns, windwalk, and any other skills. Be brave when you want to kill the enemies. Make them RUN! Because when they turn their back on you, it's your perfect chance to deal that huge Backstab damage that you have.

Farm and Kill until you get your Permanent Invisibility.
Cash on Delivery.

You, My Friend, Got Owned - Mid Game

After that hectic time of gold mining, you should have a Diffusal Blade right now.
If you don't, I assumed you got it. ;)

THIS, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, ARE YOUR TIME TO BE A STAR!

Now, target which heroes you want to kill. Especially heroes with small HP and no escape mechanisms. Also search the forest and scout for heroes. Help your allies to open up the map and make sure YOU GET THE KILL.

Yes, it's a little bit selfish, but it's your role! Wake up! No time for pleasing every single person at your team. At the end, they will thank you for saving their A$$.

P.S: Don't do unimportant thing such as scouting around without no result. Don't go for heroes you can't kill or don't get your self killed.

It Says Right in My Contract, No Refunds.

My Family Avenged - Late Game

You should be winning.
If you're loosing, then there's some possibilities:

1. You're too late to get your core items.
2. You don't get enough kills.
3. Your enemy outsmarted you.
4. Your team mates are $hit and useless.
5. Your team mates are $hit and useless.
6. Your team mates are $hit and useless.

Try harder and next time, BE INVISIBLE!
