Introduction
Meepwn GodLike
Hey guys, I am Mystik Sylent, you probably won't know me because I just joined the community (eventhough I've been usint the guides on this site for quite a long time now) and this, my firends, is my first guide so be nice ! I started playing Dota a few years ago and I mainly play
Invoker,
Lone Druid, and guess what...
Meepo !
Every ideas/comments are welcome as long as you stay polite and peacefull ! ;) By the way,
I'm french so my english might not be perfect, so feel free to let me know if you don't understand everything in this guide !
I hope this guide will help you to control the Freaking Amazing Meepo Army ! Let's start !
How should I play Meepo ?
The answer is : As YOU want !
Meepo, due to his ultimate, is a unique heroe that can be play in so much different ways ! Carry, initiator, nuker, disabler and even support !
Using
Earthbind, you can engage, ensure a kill but also escape or save your teammates.
Using
Poof, you can easily escape, initiate (using blink or illusions) and, of course: nuke (1400 damages on each heroe close to all your meepos is freaking awesome !)
And Geostrike, because it adds up with all the other meepos' geostrike, slows your target so much, all they can do is waiting for death to come.
When you play meepo, there are two options:
1) You don't know how to play him, you are always scared of getting chased and forget one clone: YOU are scared and thus you play bad.
2) You master meepo thus farm all game, getting higher exp/min and gold/min and all your enemies, even EarthShaker, are frightened: They stay in tower range (which wont help them) because THEY are scared.
The choice is yours !
Pros / Cons

Notes:
Earthbind has a 0.3 second cast time.
- The net travels at a speed of 857.
Earthbind can hit units up to 720/970/1220/1470 range away (maximum cast range + radius).
Earthbind roots affected targets, so they can still turn, cast spells, use items and attack.
- Disables the following spells: Blink (Queen of Pain),
Blink,
Teleportation,
Charge of Darkness,
Phase Shift and
Blink Dagger.
Earthbind debuff interrupts channeling spells of affected target as it gets placed, but affected units can channel spells during it.
- Successive casts of
Earthbind do no replace the debuff on affected targets, they just refresh it.
- Refreshing the
Earthbind debuff does not cancel channeling spells again.
Earthbind reveals invisible units for the duration. But it cannot root already invisible units.
Earthbind does not work on ancient creeps, Roshan, Warlock's Golem and Storm and Fire from
Primal Split.

Notes:
Poof has a cast time of 1.5 seconds
Poof does not disjoint projectiles.
Poof can only target own Meepos and illusions.
- When targeting ground, Meepo will poof to the Meepo closest to the target point (which can be the same Meepo who casts it).
Poof deals its damage twice, once at the cast location and once at the destination point. So casting it on self can deal up to 160/200/240/280 damage at one location.
- Casting
Poof with all owned Meepos at the same spot can deal up to 280/560/840/1120/1400 damage with 1/2/3/4/5 Meepos.
Poof does not damage ancient creeps, Roshan, Warlock's Golem and Storm and Fire from
Primal Split.

Notes:
- Geostrike is not a unique attack modifier.
- Each Meepo and Meepo illusion places its own Geostrike debuff on attack targets. They do not refresh the duration of others and only refresh their own debuff.
- This means that the slow and damage over time completely stack.
- Geostrike damages in 1 second instances, starting 1 second after the debuff is placed, resulting in 2 damage ticks.
- This is how much damage Geostrike can deal (before reductions) when certain number of Meepos attack a target at the same time:
- 1 Meepo: 14/28/42/56
- 2 Meepo: 28/56/84/112
- 3 Meepo: 42/84/126/168
- 4 Meepo: 56/112/168/224

Meepo summons an imperfect, semi-autonomous duplicate of himself, which can gain gold and experience as he does and shares his experience and abilities. However, the clones cannot wield any items but the boots that Meepo himself wears. If any of the clones die, they all die. Increases the speed at which you respawn.

|
Notes:
- Unlike most other ultimates,
Divided We Stand can be leveled up at level 3/10/17 instead of 6/11/16.
- Upon leveling, the
Meepo clones will always spawn next to
Meepo prime, even when it was leveled from a clone.
Meepo and his clones are represented by an icon for each on the top left corner of the screen, with a visible health and mana bar for each.
- When a
Meepo is selected, its icon becomes brighter. When a
Meepo takes damage, its icon will blink red.
Meepo clones are treated exactly like heroes, with the only exception being
Thundergod's Wrath, which does not hit
Meepo clones.
- The only item a
Meepo clone can have in its inventory are one pair boots of any kind. The boots take the same item slot like on the original
Meepo.
Meepo clones may use the active component of
Phase Boots and
Boots of Travel, but cannot use the active part of
Arcane Boots and
Power Treads.
- When the original
Meepo switches the attribute of
Power Treads, the Meepo clones' treads will adapt.
- The priority of boots is:
Boots of Travel >
Power Treads >
Arcane Boots >
Phase Boots >
Tranquil Boots >
Boots of Speed.
Meepo clones can't pick up or drop any item. They also can't pick up runes. However, they do get the Double Damage buff when
Meepo prime picks it up and are in range.
- Clones benefit from leveling Attribute Bonus, but not from items that grant attributes (unless
Aghanim's Scepter is purchased).
- When
Meepo prime loses stats (with e.g.
Decay, or Silencer's int steal), the clones' stats will adapt.
- However,
Meepo themselves are still subject to stats loss and the other Meepos will not adapt to a clone if a clone loses stats.
Aghanim's Scepter is undroppable for
Meepo once acquired. This also goes for picking up an
Aghanim's Scepter which does not belong to
Meepo.
Aghanim's Scepter upgrade of
Divided We Stand does not require it to be leveled and will always give the extra
Meepo.
- Acquiring an
Aghanim's Scepter while dead will cause the new clone to die instantly (without granting gold and experience) and respawn together with
Meepo.
Tips before we start
In order to play
Meepo correctly, you need to have to be good at micro and get your keys bounded.
Here's what I use, you may want to add/change some stuff but it's up to you. Just set your binds so that you feel comfortable with the combos. You can bind keys using the game settings but I give you the console commands because it is easier and faster to use.
Select all units
* bind key dota_select_all
Allows you to select all your
Meepo by clicking the specified key.
Select all other units
* bind key dota_select_all_others
Allows you to select all your clones by clicking the specified key.
Cycle through units
* bind key dota_cycle_selected
Allows you to select the next unit in your selection. Use this to cast your abilities while you control your army.
* bind key "dota_ability_quickcast 0"
Allows you to cast
Earthbind immediatly where your mouse is.
Poof quickcast
* bind key "dota_ability_quickcast 1"
Allows you to cast
Poof immediatly where your mouse is.
Alright ! Let's talk about the game now !
Early Game
|
Ring Of Protection
Ring Of Regen |
Early game, your meepo is alone wich makes him an easy target for a firstblood. As long as you dont have any items/exeprience, you wont be able to do much.
1st thing to do: make sure you play safe. Having a good support such as Dazzle or Witch Doctor which can babysit you is perfect.
Grabbing a Ring of Protection and a Ring of Regen will help you rushing your Tranquil Boots because of the regen and armor it will give you. Leveling Earthbind first gives you a chance to avoid being killed before you reach Lv3.
All you want to do early game is playing safe, level your Poof and stay alive. But as long as you reach Lv3, you have to level up Divided We Stand and then you'll start being dangerous thus getting free farm on your lane. If you didn't have Tranquil Boots yet, you should get it pretty quickly now that you got two meepos.
|
|
Tranquil boots
Ring Of Basilius
Town Portal Scroll |
Once you have your Tranquil Boots and Divided We Stand, farming will be much easier. Basically, you want to keep your meepos close to ensure last hits and denies for a few minutes. During that time, buy a cheap Ring of Basilius to have a bit more armor/mana regen for your clones (Do not forget to turn it off so that your creeps won't be pushing the lane or getting farm/kills will be a bit harder !). You can also ask your support to buy it for you, but keep in mind that's it will help you getting your vlad if you're getting it.
Also be sure to always have a scroll if you need to go back to base or if you team needs help on another lane.
Also, use your boots wisely. Whenever one of your clone is low, send him right next to the tower or back in the woods while you play with the other one. This will let you heal one while farming.
TIP: If your jungler is doing well, you can even ask him to let your clone follow him, you and your lane support will both get more exp.
|
Mid Game
|
Blink Dagger |
Now that you're fully equiped, you need to focus on getting kills. I see a lot of players spamming all their meepo's Earthbind at once to be sure they don't miss their target: NEVER DO THAT !
The power of Earthbind is that you can freeze your enemies for up to 5 seconds ! If you can master it (I mean cast it one by one, with a 1s delay), nobody could emerge alive, not even a Riki/ Bounty Hunter/ Clinkz.
The easiest way to properly cast Earthbind is to be right next to the target hence the Blink Dagger. You can use it in at least 3 different ways:
- Blink onto your enemy, use
Earthbind and then Poof all your clones. Your geostrike should let you get the kill easily, but if you're not sure, use one or two Earthbind.
- Blink in,
Earthbind immediatly and start autoattacking. While your enemy is frozen, cast the other Earthbind one by one so that your target can't move or go invisible. If you did it well, you'll have time to gather all your meepos on the enemy and Poof for 1400 magical damage !
- Last way is a escape mechanism. The principle is simple, doing it is another story. You'll have to blink out right after you used
Earthbind. Then Poof every clone on the main meepo while he's running away. Be carefull not to Poof with the main meepo or you'll lose the advantage the blink gave you !
|
|
Aghanim's Scepter |
Now it is time to farm your Aghs. I guess I won't really need to explain you why : add another meepo and boost the clone by sharing attributes.
|
Late Game Items
|
|
Mekansm |
|
When should I buy Mekansm?
You should buy a Mekansm when then enemies have a lot of aoe or when you are being focused every fight. This will help you keeping not only your clones, but also your teammates alive !
Mekansm is a really good way to stay alive. the passive helps a lot but the active is freaking awesome ! If one of your clone is getting harrassed and then is low, DO NOT PANIC !
Here's how you should proceed:
- Use mek as fast as possible to save your ***.
- Send the low hp clone back.
- Use
Earthbind on the attacker(s) to block them.
- Send all the others to autoattack the attacker while using the other eartbind that you have left (Make sure you wait 1s between each
Earthbind, I won't repeat it enough).
|
|
|
Assault Cuirass |
|
When should I buy Assault Cuirass?
Assault Cuirass is a great item for Meepo because of its aura. Bonus armor and attack speed is great for your clones and can save you many times in a game against enemies carries rellying on their attacks such as Phantom Assassin, Lifestealer, Slark... etc
I usually buy this with Vladmir's Offering.
|
|
|
Crimson Guard |
|
When should I buy Crimson Guard?
I don't really like to buy Crimson Guard but I admit this can be a good choice for Meepo. I just don't find it usefull in many games eventhough it's a cheap item. I only buy it when I play against an Ember Spirit and only if I didn't play well in the early to mid game.
But if absolutely needed, I usually ask my supports to buy it.
|
|
|
Eye Of Skadi |
|
When should I buy Eye Of Skadi?
Another great item against melee carries. Eye of Skadi is expensive, but it lets you rekt heroes such as Phantom Assassin, Slark... because of the insane movement/attack slow ! Also note that this gives you great stats that are shared thanks to Aghanim's Scepter.
|
|
|
Eul's Scepter Of Divinity |
|
When should I buy Eul's Scepter Of Divinity?
Eul's Scepter of Divinity is an other item I never buy, but it is a good choice for new Meepo players. It gives you a larger mana pool while increase your mana regeneration on your prime meepo.
As you should have expected, eul's active is the best part. It can help new players positionning their clones for an awesome Poof power, or to save their ***es just by using cyclone, sending all the meepos back while keeping only one meepo close to Earthbind/ Poof.
|
|
|
Scythe Of Vyse |
|
When should I buy Scythe Of Vyse?
Again, another item I'm not fan of, but eh, I'm here to give you all the keys to play Meepo as YOU want right?
I suggest you to get Scythe of Vyse when you need some mana and a huge disable for the enemies' overfarmed/fed carry.
|
|
|
Ethereal Blade |
|
When should I buy Ethereal Blade?
This is not a common item on meepos, but trust me, it helps a lot against enemies with 4K hp. they have only 60% of their magaical resistance while being unable to attack and being slowed by 80% for 3 seconds. Time to poof for INSANE damage !
|
|
|
Guardian Greaves |
|
When should I buy Guardian Greaves?
Buy Guardian Greaves whenever you dont have any support and your team needs heals/mana/armor. The passive is insane but keep in mind that if you buy Guardian Greaves, you won't have your mandatory travel boots, and since Meepo is not a support heroe, let your supports buy it.
|
|
|
Heart Of Tarrasque |
|
When should I buy Heart Of Tarrasque?
Heart of Tarrasque helps you keeping your main Meepo (thus the one engaging with blink) alive. Also note that once you have your Aghanim's Scepter, it will also boost your clone's health (But keep in mind they won't have the regen) !
|
|
|
Boots Of Travel |
|
When should I buy Boots Of Travel?
ALWAYS !
Boots of Travel is such a brilliant item on Meepo ! Be aware that each clone can use Boots of Travel but they DO NOT SHARE the cooldown ! That means that you will be able to teleport every 10 seconds ! Free pushing and healing power !
|
Final builds according to the game
Soon to come !
Here I will give you my finals builds according to the type of game and enemies !
Thanks
Thanks to the author of this Guide. It helped me a lot while writing this guide to make it as clear as possible for you !
And, of course, thank you for taking the time to readi this guide ! I hope it will help you understanding this awesome heroe !
Also note that I do accept critics as long as you explain why you did or didn't like this guide/chapter.
