This guide is very misleading to new players, but Visage can actually carry (not very effectively though, maybe as a semi-carry) if getting the right items.

Mask of Madness, in my opinion, is a very poor choice: you sacrifice 30% of your health to get the ability to attack twice as fast and move very fast; spending 1900 gold to get an early lifesteal, which is very low on any Hero if you get it before damage-increasing items, is not worth it (in my opinion) for such a Hero. Your early game damage comes from your spammable nuke, you even have a slow so that you don't need the 25% movement speed increase. Plus, if you get stunned with the MoM activated you'll most likely die in a few seconds.

The Crystalys sounds good, but I'd rather take the Maelstrom first for speeding up my farm and getting cheap damage and attack speed.

Items that can be useful:
  • Armlet of Mordiggian because it's an awesome item that covers all your weaknesses: early-game sustainability (with a quick Helm of Iron Will) and more damage, attack speed and health. Plus, you can armlet toggle if you get very low.

  • Drum of Endurance because it's probably the most cost-efficient mid-game item: more stats, more attack speed that comes with an aura and an ability that can be used to start a teamfight, escape or push towers. Plus, it's made from cheap components.

  • Rod of Atos because, after getting a Maelstrom and/or a Crystalys, the HP increase and the huge INT can come in handy.

  • Some Null Talismans: I read a Zeus guide made by Merlini (a former DotA gamer known as the "best" Zeus player) in which he said that getting 2 or even 3 Nulls boosts Zeus's efficiency by a lot and can be more useful than getting a pair of Arcane Boots: honestly I haven't tried them on Visage, but I must say that the early game damage and spammability of Zeus is very improved by them. I cannot think of a game without the big attack damage and mana regen increase anymore, they has become indispensable for me.

Other than that, the guide is not bad at all: you might want to remind newer players that this Hero should be played like a support in important matches, though.
